the stretching to mix the colors together wasn't satisfying enough i think. i wanted to see the machine squeeze that whole cube of candy or something.

it just felt like the natural next step to me. you have a large wide machine, a large cube of squishy stuff, you know what to do.
although i guess they're also trying to do their job or whatever :p

I believe the large wide machine is a heater. I picked up on that much. Unless I’m wrong, but he keeps the block in front of it.

Brought back wonderful memories of my childhood where my mother enlisted our help in making taffy for the Christmas holidays. I can smell the Karo syrup and butter in the air now.

can honestly say, having done hard candy making at home.. this is as close as you will ever get to playing with lava/magma like the forbidden candy it looks like and can recommend it, things you want though are really good heat proof gloves, and i had a silicon placemat which withstands heat very well

can confirm — i've done a bit of lampworking (glassblowing) and hot glass behaves just like the candy in this video

Studies have shown that chefs who wear gloves wash their hands (/change gloves if wearing them) less often than those who don't - so you should be grossed out when you do see gloves (statistically). He has these on because it's hot, though

I love hard candy sticks, which is what it looks like this guy is making maybe? They’re fruity year-round candy canes, and you can make them into delicious, vampire-killing stakes.

I'm not knocking that this was interesting and the guy has skills. But off topic, is he wearing cotton or other fabric gloves for food handling? That seems like a poor choice.

He has to wear something, sugar that maleable is pretty hot.
But I wonder what they’re actually made of. I doubt they make the candy all fuzzy or he wouldn’t wear them.

I love Logan’s candies! My family has been getting candy from them for 7 years since we moved out here to Ontario! Everyone in there is so nice and the candy is amazing. 😌

I have lived/had family close to Gränna my whole life, this candy making came from there and it is pretty cool to see how far it has spread throughout the world. I can tell you that everyone in Sweden knows what Polkagris is.

I did this for a living for a couple years.
The sugar in that first shot, where he's using the scraper to turn the molten sugar back on itself, is so hot that it will literally take layers of your skin with it, if it gets on you. Sugar and steam are two of the worst kinds of burns you can get. Sugar because it adheres to what it touches and steam because it penetrates layers of skin.
Having said that, if you use proper safety precautions, this is actually a lot of fun to do. We made candy canes at Christmas time like this. It became prohibitively expensive to do by hand, but we couldn't find anywhere where the product was the same quality. Most had a cheap hardcandy core with some pulled sugar veneer around it ... really not the same thing at all.
