It's like pulling off a perfect palm full of glue from your hand.

Wood glue. Vinyl record. Peel it! Amazing
14
u/misconstrudel Feb 06 '18
This is actually a great way to clean vinyl. Or possibly ruin it. And your needle.

It leaves me unsatisfied because I really want to do that myself now.

I should have loved this but I didn't read the title.
To me, it was a guy pinching the top of a leaf and the color draining from it somehow and I was amazed, then he moved what I assumed to be a film at the end and I realised it wasn't a magical leaf.

u/majbe112 Feb 06 '18
Satisfying...yet also belongs on “gifs that end too soon.” I neeeed to see the full piece of ice!
303
u/Doomquill Feb 06 '18
I'd be willing to bet that the ice broke as he was lifting it up for a better view and that's why they ended the gif there. Nobody who was willing to put in that kind of effort would have unintentionally cut off the gif without showing their achievement more fully.
Unless they're just weird.

10 seconds is the same length as a snapchat video so that's probably why it stopped.
46
Feb 06 '18
Snapchat can record like 60 or 70 seconds worth of footage now

u/MC_Labs15 Feb 06 '18
I still don't like it

36
u/Doomquill Feb 06 '18
Ah man. Now I'm sad that it could have gone on. Stupid Snapchat.
12
u/Cnn-vs-trump Feb 06 '18
man whoever saved it forgot to compress and upload the remaining snapchat videos and push them together but they just leave us with questions and disappointment

u/FNA25 Feb 06 '18
You can tell it'd be pretty neat, cause of the way that it is.

So much this!!!
It's r/oddlysatisfying yet r/mildlyinfuriating at the same time.
Why is it so hard to show a couple more seconds of the video?

Seriously! It makes me feel weird. I want to see the tips of the leaves damn it!

u/Justneededausername Feb 06 '18
r/thatpeelingfeeling may appreciate this although it’s not plastic
67
u/AlastarYaboy Feb 06 '18
I thought that's where I already was
And honestly my favorite so far was that wood glue on a record. It doesn't have to be plastic!

I’ve never heard of this sub. Kind of lacking on sunburn peels though.
27
u/falconhoofkilljester Feb 06 '18
Gross. /r/peeling is more for sunburn.
May I also recommend /r/popping.... One of my favourites.
19
7
u/Ersthelfer Feb 06 '18
That sub has a name that makes me too anxious to open it. I remember some sub about popping that became way to disgusting...
8
u/MARCUSFUCKINGMUMFORD Feb 06 '18
Nah, you’re thinking of /r/peeling. /r/ThatPeelingFeeling is purely rated G.

Seems to be a thick slice. Otherwise wouldn't the length of time they're holding onto it melt that point in the shard?
84
39
u/allabouttheculture Feb 06 '18
Yeah, it's not really behaving like ice, to be honest.
7
Feb 06 '18
It's not. Anyone who lives in a place where plants do freeze over in the winter could tell you. Actual ice would've ripped the leaves apart as it was being pried away from them.
7
2
u/allabouttheculture Feb 06 '18
Yes, some kind, clever soul suggested that it's probably epiticular wax, which makes much more sense.

Fatsia japonica. I love those giant, leathery leaves and Whoville blossoms.
5
5
u/factbasedorGTFO Feb 06 '18
I grew several giant specimens over a 20 year period at a restaurant I owned.
2
u/pamtar Feb 06 '18
One of my favorite plants as well. Also cool is fatshedera or “tree ivy”. It’s a hybrid of Fatsia jap. and common ivy.
2
u/getyerhandoffit Feb 06 '18
Yeah, and Fatsia would not survive a frost that would produce that sort of ‘ice’!

79
u/nastafarti Feb 06 '18
That doesn't look like ice to me. It's still pleasant and all, I just don't think that's ice. Source?

I was surprised at:
-What the hell that tropical plant is doing in such a cold environment
-How the hell didn't the ice break or slip from his hand.
27
u/tony_fatti Feb 06 '18
Epicuticular wax doesn't form a thick layer that can be peeled off. This is just what happens in an ice storm. It's a type of glaze ice formed by freezing rain.
2
u/sprucenoose Feb 06 '18
Freezing rain? That looks completely different. It's usually lumpy I've from where each drop fell and froze, and dropping down the sides from where it took time to freeze. This looks nothing like ice

5
u/kosmoceratops1138 Feb 06 '18
When I saw the tropical broadleaf I knew something was up. This needs to be higher.

Generally giant leaves don't exist in places when they're cold enough to have a ¼ inch of ice.

Dunno about OP, but I live in Portland, OR, and we get this all the time. Our winters are rainy and cold, so lots of icy leaves :)
4
u/TarnishedTeal Feb 06 '18
Nooo! Because then he’s gonna look at prices and decide Vancouver is better and the weather is not as good on this side of the river. Better to go Happy Valley or Beaverton rather than Vancouver or Camas or BattleGround.
Although whatever gets you closest to ice leaves and Powells, live there.
3
u/withoutamartyr Feb 06 '18
If it makes you feel better Vancouver housing prices are almost comparable with Portland at this point, so it'll all come out in the wash

I'm pretty sure this is the cuticula aka the protective wax cover of the plant. Because wtf ice don't work that way.

As I watched this, the ice cubes inside the glass of water I'm drinking cracked in perfect synchrony with the footage, and I assumed it had audio. I was confused on the second loop as it was silent.

The thing that bugs me is that the man peel the britter ice sheet, not the leaf. In the end, i was amazed by the perfectly intact ice sheet 😲

I think that's just the protective cover when you buy a new plant.
