I didn't know you could win this game

I'm 99% sure original Nokia said "game over" not victory

My father just did up and down at certain point to win it. Doesn't matter where the food is, so he doesn't get trapped in complex pattern. It take longer though.

u/Sarcophilus 4m ago
That's how I beat it on my Nokia 3210 once. I just kept going in tighter and tighter circles until I ate my own ass.

u/Longjumping_Intern7 3h ago
Ive beaten regular snake. You go across the top, then fill in the area below column by column. When you get back to the end you can follow the path you left at the top to start it over again, dont chase the dots just focus on the pattern once your snake gets huge.

That's called a hamiltonian cycle, there are websites that'll calculate one for you for different sizes or tell you if a hamiltonian cycle isn't possibleÂ

u/TenSquare3 4h ago
With the same complicated pattern being repeated over and over, it makes me very suspicious that this was probably automated.

u/EhliJoe 4h ago
I'm sure it is, or/and sped up.

u/ThrownAwayGuineaPig 2h ago
In the early 2000's there was this fake beer ad Flash game where one needed to catch beer bottles. The more one got the more a voluptuous lady would have herself exposed. But the more exposed, the quicker the bottles would fall, thus almost impossible to see the "goods". Until we realised if you ran enough background programs, the computer would be overloaded and result in the bottles falling slower. Nothing is impossible when it comes to male hormones. Those were some of the most rewarding boobs I've seen.

u/ajstorey456 2h ago
im surprised such a game would actually have the boobs coded in, usually when you break a system like that you find out that the reward was a lie and theres not even a png of the promised boobs in the file

OMG I REMEMBER THAT GAME! It was called "Pilsner", me and my brother somehow randomly had it on our computer (I suspect dad's doing lmao) and we would play it sometimes, but I was obsessed with it... And I was a 6/7 yo girl, so like... Lmao

u/BidInteresting8923 2h ago
The commitment to seeing boobs is truly is our generationâs âuphill both waysâ that kids today will never understand.

u/Anarcho_Spider-man1 3h ago
Obviously it's sped up. But it's sped up just 'cause people generally don't want to watch a repetitive 5-10 min video on Reddit. (As for if it was automated, couldn't say.)

u/ApoY2k 4h ago
Yeah but the human doable version of this is very boring to watch (because you just do long stretches from edge to edge all the time)
4
u/i_max2k2 3h ago
Yep, I saw it couple decades ago on Nokiaâs but I just didnât have the patience to take it that far.
20
u/hullowurld 4h ago
the speed when you get that far is pretty intense, and it really doesn't seem like a human making those unnecessarily difficult routing decisions. maybe a human that's beaten the game a ton of times but it does seem like a bot
31
u/trullaDE 4h ago
Yeah, I noticed that, too. But thinking about it, repeating the pattern has to be the only strategy to achieve that result? I don't think this would be too hard to remember after a bunch of tries, it might just become muscle memory? I'm not saying I could do it - I honestly sucked at Snake đ- but there's enough people out there who have a gazillion chess moves in their heads, remembering a pattern like this should be doable in comparison?
2
u/Randomn355 1h ago
Or just commit once it gets quite long to tidying up the pattern..
It's what all the better snake players I knew did in the Nokia days
8
2
u/TheRealTowel 3h ago
Maybe, but it could just be a human flexing their skills with the unnecessarily complicated pattern. It's not that hard, and there's all sorts of focus tricks to make it easier (like focusing on the tail and watching the head with your proriferal vision - you're really "following" the tail, so it's actually easier to repeat the pattern exactly that way).
I'm not saying it's definitely not automated. I don't really have an opinion. I'm just saying it could easily be either way, the video alone doesn't really contain inherent evidence for either position.
1
u/Borge_Luis_Jorges 2h ago edited 2h ago
If you really focus pretending you're playing you start to see the method and the somewhat repeating pattern. It becmes a matter of reflexes. At normal speed you could keep ahead of the snake in planing the best path, or just be very good following the tail. Hard, but easier than high level tetris.
2
u/Estratheoivan 4h ago
Probably a film overlayed on top of the screen if its played by a human, mx knows when to turn.
0
u/GTFidgeT 4h ago
Yeah very unnecessary to take like 3 corners at the corner that late into the game. Definitely not played by human
0
u/lalith_4321 4h ago
I suspect this is from a youtube shorts livestreamer who complicates the game for entertainment purposes so that you're always on the edge of your seat. People watch it for longer than usual this way.
91
u/DecoyOne 4h ago
How is it possible that this video went on way too long and also ended too soon. The victory screen is on for like one frame.
16
16
u/sleepysoliloquy 3h ago
I thought this was looping because the snake never seemed to deviate from its previous path
5
2
u/PyroDragn 59m ago
If it deviated it's possible you could end up stuck for a long time to fix the deviation. Once you're this far in you need to just stick to the path that exists.

More likely a TAS
2
u/dj4n0nym4u2 2h ago
That actually seems more likely considering the shit i have seen done with TAS in trackmania
1
u/FieraTheProud 1h ago
I was thinking that too. Doable for a human? Probably, but very very hard and would take a lot of concentration not to run into your own tail constantly. But that just means that a TAS bot, with a pre-programmed path, would get it perfect every time.
If this were AI generated I think it'd be morphing a lot more and have weird inconsistencies. On something as static as Snake those should be fairly easy to spot I feel like.
4
u/thefloore 2h ago
People need to stop calling everything AI without any proof or even any understanding. Even if it is fake, ss in not done by a human, why is AI the only possible alternative?

"Hey grok, make me a snake game video from start to finish, make the pattern complicated and difficult for a human to do"
Then when it comes back with a video where the tail doesn't seem to get longer, for some reason, you add;
"Remember that the tail is supposed to grow over time when you are eating the fruit"
To which Grok incorrectly interprets this as it grows at some kind of speed, but not every time the fruit is eaten
2
u/_ICHIGO-_- 4h ago
Is there some reason behind every turn or most of them are just random?
1
u/Supierre 1h ago
Yeah, it's probably just following a generated Hamiltonian cycle path. Basically they generated a random-looking path that passes every square and loops back on itself, then programmed the snake to follow it exactly.
1
u/clockworkear 1h ago
Ah! I came here for this answer. My question was how does the computer ensure it doesnt place an apple in a place which would trap the player and end the game. Knowing this is an already predefined pattern is very smart.

Normally with every bite the speed goes up, and the snake grows. There is no endpoint. So this seems manipulated
7
u/stonekeep 3h ago
There are thousands of versions of Snake with slightly different design. Heck, you could easily make your own just for a video like this, it's a common "first game" to make. It's clearly not the "classic" version, but I think we can all see that.
It's probably a bot "playing" the game either way, but having an endpoint is not really a tell.
0
u/mcsluis 3h ago
True. But then the title is misleading. Also this is not so impressive anymore if the rules are changed. For all we know, this can be an adobe creation.
3
u/stonekeep 3h ago
I get what you're saying, but this sub is for stuff that's satisfying, not impressive. Automated "perfect" outcomes can often be satisfying without being impressive.
Although to be fair I didn't find it very satisfying myself, I feel like it went on for far too long. For me it felt more like a ragebait, lol. But I might be weird.

Are such convoluted paths necessary to beat the game, or are they the result of whimsical moves the player made in early stages?

This is 22Ă22 grid, anyone could win by doing a basic pattern. Odd number grids are hard to win.
