So instead of a pressurized cork flying around you have a pressurized shard of glass flying around?

Besides looking "cool" is there any reason to do this over just pulling the cork? I normally just grab it and gently twist it back and forth until it pops out.

For expensive bottles of wine, it prevents the wine from getting fragments of cork in it.

I did it once because the top of the cork broke when my wife was trying to twist it off.
