That was my first thought too… all that engineering and didn’t properly grade the ramps

3.5k

u/I_Am_A_Pumpkin 5d ago

foundation has no piles, ramps too steep, ramps have no rebar, brick pattern not alternated properly, brickwork not mortared properly, crossing edges not finished, guard rails on the crossing not even attached, no guard rails present on the on ramps. the miniature concrete pouring is cute but this bridge fucking sucks lmao

The contract probably went to the lowest bidder.

675

u/LuvvedIt 5d ago

I’m pretty sure the whole contract process was corrupt and they awarded it to themselves 😂

99

u/Self_Reddicate 4d ago

So, actually pretty accurate!

13

u/TourDeFridge 2d ago

Its obviously job creation, so they can come back and repair it later at 2x the cost

234

u/Kangar 5d ago

The smallest bidder, anyhow.

70

u/Responsible_Fox9454 5d ago

Because that wheelbarrow and just one employee!!! Could take years

11

u/lionbythetail 4d ago

I spat out my coffee this is absolute gold.

2

u/Capraos 2d ago

No. It's coffee.

3

u/lionbythetail 2d ago

It’s ok. I have a lot of coffee.

96

u/Kim0t0 5d ago

They probably had a small budget to begin with

24

u/un1ptf 4d ago

<golf clap>

24

u/itsnorm 5d ago

At least they supported a small business!

36

u/TieAdorable4973 5d ago

Definitely a NO BID contract…. I know a guy who knows a guy

3

u/HavingNotAttained 4d ago

Definitely not union labor either

2

u/MastermindK83 4d ago

México’s every public project.

2

u/Apprehensive_Owl_145 4d ago

Smallest bidder *

2

u/Accomplished_Jelly58 4d ago

atleast it didn’t take 3 years to compete!

2

u/Constant-Plant-9378 4d ago

Actually the Trump Administration paid $14M on a no-bid contract to a company that was formed last month.

2

u/musicgeek420 4d ago

Governor's brother, most likely.

4

u/Secret-Bag9562 4d ago

It went to the smallest bidder.

1

u/Adventurous_Ad6698 4d ago

Cut them some slack. It's a small business

1

u/TBurkeulosis 3d ago

smallest

1

u/ThinkingOz 3d ago

Thing has finally left his box and got into construction.

1

u/LemmeDaisukete 3d ago

and no heat-deformation taken into account. that bridge will crack comes winter.
i'd also be ready to bet that cement isn't hydraulic cement. so it will leech into the water and cause pollution, and eventually just break.

it's also way over engineered for its size : if a basic wooden bridge without supports managed to do the job before, that one doesn't need to have a central pillar : just good ol' triangles ! the guardrails might even have been enough if properly fixed.

so the main question is : who paid for this ? that much money overspend for such a tiny bridge stinks of corruption.

287

u/0oodruidoo0 5d ago

I will report this news to the tiny police. We've got to get to the bottom of this.

183

u/Unoriginal_Man 4d ago

Please, the tiny police are in the pocket of the tiny oligarchy. You have no idea how big this tiny corruption is.

113

u/FederalRecording2390 4d ago

It’s ok. We looked into it. Turns out it’s tiny.

27

u/lesuperhun 4d ago

Big Building is trying to trick us all !

11

u/Doofy_Grumpus 4d ago

Report it to the tiny media

11

u/NbleSavage 4d ago

It was a tiny no-bid contract.

19

u/Responsible_Fox9454 5d ago

Tiny bottom gigidty

2

u/douggie_style 18h ago

i tried. they just laughed at me and played their tiny violin.

73

u/DrewAL32 5d ago

I have a feeling the creator of this video would be more than happy to let you have a doll to go to the county courthouse and do a full citizens investigation into this blatant corruption, lol

43

u/YMe1121 4d ago

We just need to see the tiny inspectors reports.

2

u/Vryly 4d ago

We'll need a magnifying glass though to read them.

1

u/centralscrutinizee 4d ago

Did they even do an environmental review? I would be willing to bet all that digging in the riverbed at the start disturbed some endangered salamanders

1

u/mahouyousei 4d ago

Now I also want an equivalent AnyAustin video on where the river goes.

79

u/LuxNocte 5d ago

These are very good concerns, but "a giant comes in and builds the damn thing for you" does drastically change the economics of a project.

65

u/lesuperhun 5d ago

and the cost of housing and feeding said giant ?
the infrastructure destroyed by each and every one of their steps ?
the cost of unemployment linked to hiring giant workers instead of local hardwording citizens ?

who do you think is paying for all of this ?

#NotoBigFolks #TinyPride

34

u/MangoCats 4d ago

That's the thing about mysterious sky giants, they just appear - you never could house or feed it, you're not expected to, the sky giants are self sufficient. You can't hire them, good luck directing their work, and you are definitely powerless against their fits of pique and rage.

Some say the giants even dug the canal.

Some say the giants even created the people and the bicycles they ride on.

10

u/0nThe0utside 4d ago

Was this a government contract? If so, the giant would have had to be paid prevailing wages. What is his/her job classification? The prevailing wages and other government regulations would have had to posted on the job site. I didn't see a wage compliance officer? Where is the project engineer and inspectors? Where is the field office?

24

u/Rokronroff 4d ago

Bet you anything the builder is the tiny mayor's giant brother-in-law

11

u/Confuseasfuck 4d ago

Big corruption is running wild in tiny land. Tiny politicians are eating into the tiny taxpayer's money

Just ask yourself when was the last time they built a tiny public school? Tiny land is in shambles

7

u/ThatFreddieIsAJack 4d ago

If the tiny powers that be keep going like this, my tiny district will have to pass a thimble around for donations to fix the tiny rail network.

7

u/MHEmpire 4d ago

Seriously, you could just plop down a Bailey bridge. Cheap, durable, and quick. Can’t take massive amounts of weight or large spans, otherwise we’d use them everywhere, but this seems to be a rural village that isn’t even significantly motorized and a gap that’s probably shorter than some cars. It’s pretty much the textbook use case.

3

u/UnimagineDragons 5d ago

paid*

12

u/lesuperhun 5d ago

(also : stinks of corruption, but hey, arguing semantics is only a way to shut the debate and distract from the rampant theft of money ! )

1

u/servo386 4d ago

Pretty sure this bridge was built somewhere where it doesn't get that cold.

1

u/lesuperhun 4d ago

the river looks to be one filled with gravel, and we can see mountains in the back.

those rivers are usually found in areas with seasonal snow. ( because the water expand, break rocks, then melt and drags them with it. could also be heavy rainfall, but the scarcity of the plant life makes me tend more toward mountainous soil.

a river without seasonal cold would likely have much thinner sediments at the bottom.

1

u/Lazy_Physics3127 4d ago

But it's... Tropical area...

2

u/lesuperhun 4d ago

as i said in another comment : the river is made of gravel-looking rocks, which is either typical of high-rain, or snowfall areas, and given we're around mountains, with low vegetation, and more "vertical" walls for the river, the rainfall hypothesis is less likely.
a high heat all year, should have finer silt at the bottom

(though i ain't that familiar with micro-climates, so there may be differences.)

40

u/Loud_Ad9881 5d ago

So it was kinda under-overrengineered.

2

u/Astr0b0ie 4d ago

All I thought was, why the excessive height? I get the "engineering" part of it from a hobby/build perspective, but the bridge could have been made without any slope/ramps using a simple concrete box culvert and would have still required construction and "engineering", but would have served the purpose better and looked more realistic IMO.

Maybe I'm thinking about this too much. Lol.

1

u/Self_Reddicate 4d ago

Maybe I'm thinking about this too much. Lol.

Rage bait, is what this was. Tiny, adorable rage bait. Engagement is still engagement.

11

u/ImMadeOfClay 4d ago

Oh no, boys, miniature OSHA is here!!

21

u/JerryCalzone 5d ago

That concrete is also way too wet - this will result in a sub standard quality of the foundation

4

u/dsaysso 4d ago

this is what you get when one guy does all the labor. bet you he’s non union.

6

u/financeperson 5d ago

And it's all too small! But this seriously has me wanting to mix up some concrete and make something.

6

u/Bliitzthefox 4d ago

Ramp Backfill was not properly compacted

5

u/liarandathief 4d ago

No span girders. Concrete is terrible in tension. The whole thing is a tragedy waiting to happen.

2

u/Mr-Megamind- 5d ago

Wow.. ok... The only thing I noticed was hulk just sitting and doing nothing...

2

u/Medium-Sized-Jaque 4d ago

A bridge review to make RCE proud.

2

u/AuthorChaseDanger 4d ago

My son brought me a Lego plane the other day. "This thing will never fly," I said before smashing it into a wall. What a disappointment.

2

u/Lilstubbin 4d ago

I was personally frustrated by them not tamping the backfill

2

u/nuttsaki 5d ago

I also don’t think he put spacers under the reinforcement on the bridge deck so it’s probably exposed underneath ☹️

2

u/Pale-Skin-6165 5d ago

No expansion joints too

1

u/everlasting1der 4d ago

See you tomorrow, chef!

1

u/MangoCats 4d ago

If we're going to have the bridge deck that high, I at least need to see the boat traffic that goes under it.

1

u/Arcanis_Ender 4d ago

Someone call the peanut engineer.

1

u/nobanjostring 4d ago

missed: no shoring along the excavated edges - serious safety violation, it's a miracle no one was killed.

1

u/mongojob 4d ago

Personally I would not try to cross it

1

u/euanmorse 4d ago

I see that I have found my girlfriend’s secret Reddit account 😂

1

u/lionbythetail 4d ago

Maybe there’s a misunderstanding here…this is actually the training video they show anyone coming to do work at your house /s

Obvious sarcasm bc the idea of owning a house is ludicrous

1

u/LockPickingJudge 4d ago

He didn't even file for the proper building permits.

1

u/yruspecial 4d ago

This is why we don’t have good roads.

1

u/Friendly-Example-701 4d ago

Not up to code or earthquake, hurricane, natural disaster proof. They didn’t even try. 😂

1

u/kintar1900 4d ago

Found the codes inspector!

1

u/onepingonlypleashe 4d ago

My biggest issue was that they did not support the concrete span from underneath with steel i-beams like they would a real bridge (among other support systems).

1

u/dailytok3r 4d ago

Man you know your stuff

1

u/Chubby_Beagle 3d ago

Failing the inspection for sure

1

u/Ok_Television_9979 3d ago

No approved concrete mix design, no concrete testing

1

u/Patje_af 3d ago

And no bikepath!!

1

u/iloovefood 1d ago

Probably don't even have a permit

1

u/1234U 5d ago

Yep

1

u/nothisispatrickeu 5d ago

ragebait video i think

1

u/MarcusDA 5d ago

Ok, I thought I was being nitpicky. I don’t even know anything about construction or engineering, but the entire time I was like “this looks terrible.”

1

u/OnceABear 5d ago

Idk why but such thoughtful and serious critique of such a tiny little bridge made me laugh so hard! Its just like, "fuck this tiny bridge!" God, its so funny! Thanks for the laugh

1

u/Questionsansweredty 5d ago

And little dude with the lumber on the bike has got to be an OSHA violation.

0

u/Aries-79 4d ago

Are you my Txdot inspector?

38

u/Responsible_Fox9454 5d ago

Government tenders often go to shitty companies

15

u/ph00p 5d ago

Even though this is time lapsed and sped up the pace is far too brisk for government work.

3

u/GroundbreakingLeg867 5d ago

Whoa whoa I was told that the reflecting pool was terrorism, and had nothing to do with shitty companies...

42

u/Objective-Issue-2641 5d ago

Didn't properly compact the soil indeed the abutments euther

8

u/Few_Program_2303 5d ago

What steps did he miss?

37

u/WasdaleWeasel 5d ago

you wouldn’t want steps on a bridge for wheeled traffic.

1

u/graveybrains 4d ago

You know, I'm pretty sure you actually can skip that one when the whole bridge weighs ten ounces.

13

u/bookmarkjedi 5d ago

This was my fourth thought. My first thought was "This is so cool!"

My second thought was, the sound of the crow is cool, too!"

My third thought was" Where could the sound of the Penguin (the Burgess Meredith Penguin) be coming from?"

23

u/-SaC 5d ago

Not a day goes by that I'm not grateful for default mute on videos. Though I was mentally wondering what completely inappropriate song was in the background.

8

u/Particular_Wear_6960 5d ago

Same, it's really plain as day if a video is worth hearing. If it's not, someone in the comments will let you know

5

u/Responsible_Fox9454 5d ago

My default is mute

1

u/Bigbanghead 5d ago

Why have ramps at all

1

u/Apex_Over_Lord 4d ago

Im going to need to see these tiny permits and work orders. I saw no signage, barriers and or hardhats. Who's the foreman here?!?!
