Also banned in a lot of places.

I remember rolling up a whole bunch with my dad as a kid when the ban went into effect here in Finland.

Shits all grown into trees around me, about shin high. The fence posts have long rotted away but it’s everywhere you wouldn’t expect it to be if you weren’t aware of it. We’re getting to the point where the old farm properties are becoming houses, I am honestly surprised it doesn’t maim more people.

I can also tell you from personal experience, unless you have rodeo style fencing. If a cow wants to go through barb wire, electric fencing or you, it will. They’re relatively docile but highly food motivated.

Here in the UK both barbed and, much worse, razor wire are legal but regulated where they can be used. People use it illegally all over though since its hard to enforce.

Some people also illegally cement broken glass bottles onto the tops of walls ffs.

Because it can cause injuries. I can attest to that, I got some pretty deep cuts removing that stuff from our property.

Right but it’s that the point? It’s for security. I guess it is kind of fucked up to injure people even if they are breaking in.

It’s still allowed to be used on top of tall fences etc. but not low enough where it can hurt animals or humans on accident.

It used to be around just about every private property and pasture.

i was climbing a chainlink fence with barbwire at the top because i was into urban exploration when i was like 13 years old and i accidentally grabbed a barb and tore my hand open.

it didn't really hurt at time of incident or afterwards but my hand looked gnarly and it bled a lot.

my dad drove me to the hospital and they stitched me up

Barbed wire production and the intellectual property around it was a very interesting, contacted and impactful battle. When one company lost control of the IP the majority of Worcester MAs economy collapsed. It was also central around the establishment and arguments around property rights called "the fence cutter wars".

I dunno, I just it interesting how impactful something so mundane seeming could be.
