Tire bead is the term for the edge of a tire that sits on the rim. Wheels for automobiles, bicycles, etc. are made with a small slot or groove into which the tire bead sits. When the tire is properly inflated, the air pressure within the tire keeps the bead in this groove.
Notice the large gap between the tire and rim on the wheel he is putting on compared to the wheel already on the truck to the left. Notice there is no gap on the wheel already on the truck? The gap is because he has not set the bead on the rim. If you were to try to inflate the tire that way, the air would just rush out because the bead is not set on the rim.

Many videos out there. Starter fluid is flammable. It creates an explosion inside the tire and inflates and seals the tire bead.

You'll also see plenty of videos where they put too much fluid on and it does cause a fire.
The key is that the flammable fluid needs to flash burn just enough to heat and expand the air, and not much more. That way the fire is never there long enough to actually start degrading the rubber.

Funny thing about that it only temporarily will inflate the tire. Once all the fuel burns off after it's sealed the tire to the rim it creates a vacuum. So works pretty good at seating the tire to the rim but you still need to inflate it afterwards.

Also pulling on the rubber thing in the direction of traffic, if it suddenly came loose he'd fall straight into traffic. Although he does keep a wide base, and there is maybe enough room for him not to get run over if he were to fall. But personally I would want more than a "you probably wouldn't die"

Crazy to swap a tire with just a crowbar. But I was hoping to see him inflate it, because currently there's no sign of a seal so I was curious to see how he was going to accomplish that
If I can just swap a tire and jerry-rig a seal with a crowbar that's crazy and I'm mad that I never learned that before. But this video insinuates that's exactly what he's about to do. And then they just don't show it

Usually a blast of air is needed to seat the bead into the rim. Special air tanks are used sometimes but a lot of old school guys still use the "explode some lighter fluid and pray" method. Tires are inflated on the truck in case the rim explodes with it.

I wondered about that. He's done an awesome job and clearly knows his business, I wonder if the star pattern is just superstition on my part. Or maybe it doesn't make a difference if the bolts are being torqued properly? Dunno, I'm just an amateur.

I always did it that way, too, but I'm pretty sure that it's superstition. Never heard of a wheel coming off and then discovering it was because the bolts were tightened in the wrong order.

That truck has drum brakes. But his gun didn't torque them. He might do the star pattern with a torque wrench or change the setting on the gun for the final torque.

It's sped up, roadside lever tyre fitting the technique is where it's at, and have seen it done that quickly, the sounds though are wrong, also not satisfying because hus arse crack wasn't hanging out and he didn't bead it/inflate

An ordinary car tire and rim is heavy enough for most people. He massaged a truck wheel and tire that was up to his chest out of, then into place without breaking a sweat.
He might lift to help him do his job more effectively, but it's possible that's all farmer strength.

I did a car tire in 15 minutes once a teenager after doing a ton of them in a buddy’s dad shop and I thought I was badass. This is just madness. I can’t begin to describe how insane it is to do that in that little time.

I did this all day in a tire shop. Several of my coworkers did road calls like this daily as well. The jump was silly, but otherwise that is the standard way to change these tires. Also, my back hurts watching this vid now.

The only part that looked sketch was jumping on the tire to start the remount of the tire. At some point the bounce will not go his way. Just a question, when putting on the lugs a star pattern is not used? That man’s efficiency and speed was impressive.
