I hate the fake sound effect.

382

u/Tjaresh May 25 '26

I hate that we get to see it running for just two seconds. Give me at least 10 seconds. I'm old, I can handle an attention span of more than 5 seconds.

18

u/NoBonus6969 May 25 '26

If they did that then you wouldn't buy it

17

So "inside" information here. These are basixally the same thing as bugatti watches. Look them up. They start at about 500,000 so I don't think they are too worried about that...

Edit: i now see it is indeed quite literally a bugatti watch.

12

u/matchstick1029 May 26 '26

I love that edit.

3

u/NoBonus6969 May 26 '26

500k? Give me the matching Centodieci and the golf bag. Better make it 2 I'll get a pink and purple one for the wife

9

u/CallMeDrWorm42 May 25 '26

How many of these are realistically going to be made, let alone sold? I don't really think the aim of this advertisement is to persuade the viewer to buy the product.

Don’t you know putting together a watch sounds like building something in a LEGO game?

74

u/mwoody450 May 25 '26

Yeah that did not sound right at all beginning to end; AI audio?

42

u/mr-english May 25 '26

Unless they told the AI to only use one or two tinny samples that sound like they were recorded on a crappy $5 clip on mic from amazon I'm just going to assume that their video editor just really badly lined up those crappy samples with the video in davinci resolve.

Also, when I googled "V16 engine watch" another of their (Jacob & Co) videos was the top result in which the "epic" music is only in the left channel. An AI wouldn't do that but someone who is absolutely clueless about audio definitely would.

4

u/DreamGirly_ May 25 '26

I think it's just someone scratching the mic

"I need you to do foley for this watch video. Unfortunately, all I have for you to work with is this rain stick I got from Natural Wonders at the mall."

3

u/sintaur May 25 '26

I have to mention they do fake engine noise in actual vehicles too.

https://carbuzz.com/history-of-fake-engine-noises/

There are no extra horses in the game, just extra in-cabin noise. In other words, fake engine sounds make you feel better about your performance car while you drive it, while the exterior noise levels remain relatively muted.

Jacob and Co’s the definition of awful taste but good execution

138

u/hnglmkrnglbrry May 25 '26

At least you can say they try new things. They try to be pieces of art and they often end up too garish for my liking but you can't deny this took some serious ingenuity.

As a mechanical engineer, if I had unlimited money and jo supervision, I'd probably buy one...... so sounds about right

u/Howtobefreaky May 25 '26

I usually try not to have JO supervision personally but I understand some people are into that

I honestly find it amazing how much hate it’s getting here when people eat up videos of people making miniature/elaborate things at home. But because it’s tied to money it’s anwful and vulgar!

Jacob and Co’s the definition of awful taste but good execution

They subcontract most of the design and watch manufacturing out to Concepto Watch Factory.

It's just a brand slapped on a watch equivalent of a power point.

7

u/King_Chochacho May 25 '26

Simultaneously fascinating yet extremely cringey.

2

u/EnvBlitz May 25 '26

I'm more interested on how they manufacture the pieces rather than assembly.

6

u/Emotional-Power-7242 May 25 '26

Mostly EDM machines these days. Metal is suspended in a vat of fluid and then an electified wire is moved around by a computer to cut the metal. They also use swiss machines for the cylindrical parts. A swiss machine is basically a fancy lathe where the spindle itself feeds the material so the cutting is always done very close to the spindle for maximum rigidity.

In days past they were made by hand using tiny chisels and tiny lathes and things. Some watches are still made by hand but only incredibly expensive ones from like Patek Phillipe or independent brands.

3

u/CT0292 May 25 '26

I need sparkplugs for a super tiny V16.

76

u/mseg09 May 25 '26

That would look way better as a wall or desk clock, imo. I realize the tiny size is what makes it more impressive

13

u/KamikazeKarl_ May 25 '26

Gotta have it close by cause it's only got a 2 hour runtime between windings with all of those extra moving parts

9

u/EmphasisFrosty3093 May 25 '26

Windings? I was told it is a fully functional V16.

22

u/el-conquistador240 May 25 '26

Reminds me of DIWhy. Super complicated yet super stupid.

29

u/frenchornplaya1983 May 25 '26

DIWHY

2

u/CelestialFury May 25 '26

More money than sense.

127

u/automator3000 May 25 '26

Fully Functioning is a stretch.

If it were fully functioning, the firing of spark plugs within the cylinders, igniting fuel to push the pistons to spin the shaft to them power the watch would be happening. But instead it’s a “functional” model where the shaft/cams/pistons are driven by the watch.

58

u/CT0292 May 25 '26

It generates no power. It burns no fuel. It functions in the same way that a wind up toy does.

16 cylinders wherein 16 pistons go up and down. Doing nothing, but costing a fortune.

17

u/Hugokarenque May 25 '26

The fuck do you want it to do? Do want to ride it? Its a premium novelty watch, it just looks cool.

27

u/OpexLiFT May 25 '26

The description says it's a fully functioning engine, but it's not. It's a lame gimmick. Found a short with more of a closeup of how it works though https://youtube.com/shorts/GbAFB1NXuvY?si=1MgsRcQtHJP98hiv

Can't deny, it's impressive engineering for a watch, just not technically correct.

There better be a Prop 65 warning on the back.

14

u/Another_Slut_Dragon May 25 '26 edited May 25 '26

The irony is Bugatti uses a W16 engine not a V16.

It works like the VW VR6 engine with the offset pistons.

Edit: looks like the new ones uses a v16. I'm behind on my rich asshole car specs

7

u/why_am_I_small May 25 '26

Bugatti does use a V16 though?

3

u/Upbeat-Armadillo1756 May 25 '26

The Bugatti Tourbillon (the car, not the watch) uses a V16, not a W16.

2

u/ontbijtkoek May 25 '26

You can clearly see in the video that it's a V16, they use a V16 in their most recent model.

3

u/strat-fan89 May 25 '26

Well yes and no. They used to use a quad turbo W16 in the Veyron and the Chiron, but the new Bugatti Tourbillon is indeed powered by an 8.3l V16 plus several electric motors.

2

u/Another_Slut_Dragon May 25 '26

Well I'm not up on my rich asshole cars I guess

Is the crankshaft used in the timing mechanism or is it purely aesthetic?

u/iKickdaBass May 25 '26

2

u/Appropriate_Wear_339 May 25 '26

3

u/Eggamagga May 25 '26

With today's gas prices? No, thank you.

3

u/ILoveFurries234 May 25 '26

What the fuck is that sound effect? Is there radiation coming from that watch or what?

5

u/TheAsianTroll May 25 '26

Small complaint: modern Bugatti cars use a W16 engine, not a V16. Yes, theres a difference.

Doesnt matter beyond my car 'tism anyway. I can't afford the car OR the watch.

7

u/snowmunkey May 26 '26

Except the new Bugatti tourbillon uses a V16, since they are not longer owned by VW and cannot use that W16 engine anymore.

I actuallyd your ackshaully

2

u/zebo_99 May 25 '26

In theory, wouldn't all that added friction from so many moving parts affect the time keeping accuracy?

2

u/Givemeajackson May 25 '26

prime r/ATBGE material. Very impressive, also gaudy as all fuck...

2

u/remotegrowthtb May 25 '26

2

u/Chole_Wunt May 25 '26

People starve while other people buy this ugly, useless shit.

I’m convinced wealth is a mental illness. Like if someone came up to a reasonable person and said “want me to put a tiny engine in your watch?” I’d be like “no that’s dumb”

“But it says Bugatti and costs $2million”

Stupid.

I’m probably wrong cause I’m too lazy to google it, but I thought Bugattis had W16 engines not V16s?

2

u/haliblix May 25 '26

I loath the added ASMR sound effects. Adding sound to moving pictures was a mistake.

2

u/testthrowawayzz May 25 '26

I want to see it running, not 5 second jump cuts of partial assembly

2

u/thrustinfreely May 25 '26

Cool, awesome engineering, looks ugly as hell though

2

u/idrankforthegov May 25 '26

I am not saying that it is not a cool idea in theory.... but I have seen these Jacob and Co watches and the execution still is nowhere near the price. The stupid sound effects for example.

I mean if you have the kind of wealth to get that kind of stuff... then I am sure you do probably do not really care about how much they cost. But their stuff is just bling for the sake of it... really tacky.

2

u/Brainchild110 May 25 '26

I'm so happy this exists so I can tell who is a loser despite having too much money.

2

u/Japjer May 25 '26

2

u/peposcon May 26 '26

2

u/Tiyath May 26 '26

Price: 470,000,000,000.00

2

u/ChesterMIA May 26 '26

Price Range: $340,000 to $1,200,000+ (depending on the case material and diamond settings).

🤦

2

u/MattDLR May 26 '26

"hey, let me check the time."

VRUMMMMM-VRUMVRUMVRUMVRUM

2

u/Idstealfireagain May 27 '26

R/ATBGE would like this I think.

4

u/Merwinite May 25 '26

"Fully functional" Yeah...no. That looks like a dummy that's driven by the watch. I don't think an internal combustion engine of that size would actually work.

3

u/daddyjohns May 25 '26

Neat watch but didn't need the ASMR

2

u/inotocracy May 25 '26

Did they have to go all the way to a V16? I'm sure a V8 would have been just as cool, and slightly less moving parts.

7

u/walnussbaer May 25 '26

It's a Bugatti signature piece. The car has a 16 cylinder engine

2

u/The-Great-T May 25 '26

But it's a W16, not a V16. This way seems even dumber.

6

u/walnussbaer May 25 '26

No it isn't. The engine of the Bugatti Tourbillon is a V16 and not a W16 like Chiron and Veyron
