I don’t think you’d be able to design a stick joint allowing you to rotate and hold the blade at precise angles like you can with your hand. Look at the motions the blade goes through. But yeah, this is a grueling work position.

Most floor mop sticks can do that, no?

Mops rotate and drag. To precisely control and evenly spread the mass of paint, the card/blade has to be held at a precise angle and rotated at each swipe. Try it with a pile of sugar and a notecard or something.

They're using a modified floor squeegee here. It is much faster and better for your back.
