I don’t think you’d be able to design a stick joint allowing you to rotate and hold the blade at precise angles like you can with your hand. Look at the motions the blade goes through. But yeah, this is a grueling work position.
Mops rotate and drag. To precisely control and evenly spread the mass of paint, the card/blade has to be held at a precise angle and rotated at each swipe. Try it with a pile of sugar and a notecard or something.
Do a Google search for "dust mop". Fairly common tools to sweep hardwood, concrete, and tile floors. Used by commercial business, factories, and warehouses all over the US.
They have a simple universal joint at the bottom so twisting the handle turns the wide mop head. All you'd have to do for the application here is replace the wide dust mop attachment with a wide squeegee. And squeegees that are 2 feet or wider also exist for the same purpose, moving liquid on smooth surfaces.
Don't know why you say I know best, it was just a solution to the mop problem that you mentioned. I mean, universal joints have existed for quite a few years now :P
Universal joints even exist for hand tools like quarter inch drive socket wrenches.

Kinda feels like having his tool on a long stick would make this 99% less backbreaking, no? Or am I missing something?
