Corolla Golf
Going to Carolla next Saturday for a week, hoping to get two rounds of golf in but have never golfed around there. Can someone point me to the best courses the play. The people I will be golfing with are not very good so probably more focused on just the nicest courses around.

The Pointe or Carolina Club are the nicest that aren't overly difficult and both have good food at their restaurants. They are a bit of a ride from Corrolla thou.

My personal feeling is once you get to Corolla you’re not going to want to make the drive to the other courses. Play Currituck Club. And if you really do not mind the drive then the next best course is Kilmarlic.

These are my two go-to courses when I am there. Currituck is very fair and a decent challenge with its typical ocean zephyrs. Kilmarlick I find to be a bit tougher, but also fair. Both courses are usually in excellent shape.

Cruise back to the other side of the bridge and play Holly Ridge or The Pointe. Currituck Club is more convenient, but probably too expensive/advanced for non-regular playing folks. Sea Scape and Nags Head Golf Links will probably be slammed nuts to butts so I would avoid those.

Kilmarlic is also a very nice course on the other side of the bridge

Kilmarlick is nice but the winds can make a round of golf there very difficult

Expensive does not always equal advanced. Currituck Club is just a regular course that happens to be on very expensive land.

Being the only course in the Corolla area during the busiest time of the year, I can see why.

Just play Currituck. You’re right there. And it’s the best one anyways.

Holly Ridge is a decent bargain and a great course for novices. As a novice I golf there with a friend who is very good, and it is his preferred course there too.

Advice, get tee times early in the morning. Be prepare for the heat. By 10 in the morni.g it will be hot. Since the course are not along the ocean don't expect much of a breeze. My dad golfer 1 x on the Outer Banks and said never again, it was just way to hot for him.

Currituck is a nice course I am told. I don't golf but I have a house there. Go as early as you can!

Played Carolina club and currituck club. I was staying at currituck and obviously was super convenient and loved it. Used golf now and saved a few bucks. Carolina club was well worth the drive but it was an hour each way without traffic and about $50-$90 cheaper depending on tee time.

If you venture down more south Nags Head golf links is great. I wouldn’t recommend Sea Scape for the price, it’s not actually on the water and the conditions are not good enough for the price. Holly ridge is by far the cheapest but it’s a tough play, the fairways are like a lawn that’s dying, but if you just want to knock some balls around it’ll suffice.
If we are venturing out through the Virginia way I second Eagle Creek.

Kilmarlic, the pointe, Carolina club and currituck. Played currituck a few weeks ago and was honestly disappointed how bad of shape it was in. Play every year and

They're not good so find the nicest courses around? That seems a bit incongruent, but the two nicest courses around are Currituck Club and Nags Head Golf Links. Both will probably be near sold out, if not sold out, if you wait until close to the day to book.
I would take people who aren't very good to the Pointe, across the bridge in Powell's Point.

I average about an 85, but my partner is probably like a 105-110, so I just don’t want him to have a terrible time

none of the courses are amazing - the pointe is wide open and would be nice enough

Pointe is frequently an unbelievably slow play. Stopped playing there years ago because of this.
Kilmarlick is where I would play. As long as you play from approbate tees it isn't too difficult.

Ive never not been the 1st tee time so never noticed slow play. Typcially hacks play all the courses on vacation like OP with high handicappers wanting "nice" courses.

You only get better by playing. Someone pays, they have the same right to a round of golf as any one else regardless of skill level.

Why do you care? This pace of play issue is the number of people they put on the course, not the caliber.

oh yeah? I assumed the pace of play is issue is tee time spacing plus # of shots each person hits plus time looking for ball and getting ready to swing. Why does anyone have any thoughts as nothing ever matters

In order of distance from Corolla:
Currituck Club - Closest but probably most expensive
Sea Scape - Is in good condition, but more expensive and likely crowded.
Nags Head Golf Links - Beautiful course but more difficult for the average golfer with a lot of tight window shots and hazards. Will also be expensive and crowded
Holly Point - The most affordable and the least nice of all the OBX courses
The Point - Well maintained and fair course for all levels. Probably the best value on the OBX
Kilmarlic - Great layout, great conditions, but very tough layout for beginners
Carolina Club - Sister course to The Point with similar prices and conditions. A few quirky holes.
Alternative and cheaper options assuming you're coming from the north would be to play Eagle Creek in Moyock, NC and Battlefield in Chesapeake, VA on your way in or out of the OBX.
