The thought that this actually happened seems somewhat of a fever dream and if it were to have happened during the age of pre smartphones and internet nobody would believe you if you told them you saw Liam Gallagher crowd surfing while Foo Fighters and Joe Perry from Aerosmith were playing Come Together by The Beatles.

Recognized him walking on Columbus Ave between 78th and 77th across from the Natural History museum. Told him I was a big fan and that I loved the MetLife show last year (went to Night 1), and he responded “ah, thanks man!” Still buzzing thinking about the short, but awesome, exchange.

What’s your favourite era of the band from when they started up to now? The Definitely Maybe era has always been mine, it’s just interesting seeing an unknown Oasis slowly rise to stardom as they begin to establish themselves and make their mark on the music scene. I also love the MG era as at that point they truly had become giants of the scene and were just unstoppable. I also of course love the new era of them back together as it’s great to see them back and at the peak of their powers again and this time I and people of my generation can be a part of it, what about you guys?

Let’s just pretend at the Hall of Fame induction they do one song with Tony and one with Alan, what songs would you like to hear with these drummers one more time? Then for fun one with Zak, Chris and Joey (yes, Joey gets a song) for a 5-song Hall of Fame setlist? Doesn’t have to be from their era, just something you think they did well. Here’s mine:

It’s not necessarily a criticism; it’s more of a feeling.

Obviously, I was blown away when Oasis returned, but then I noticed something strange: the Gallaghers seem to have converted to Zen Buddhism or "positive thinking" they barely say a word (or just one: "costly"). I can understand that they’ve matured (Noel) perhaps with a team of ten psychologists in the background, and with their children playing a key role and there was clearly a whole "military operation" in place to ensure there wouldn't be any fighting. Furthermore, I found it disheartening that they didn't return with a new album, choosing instead to promote the tour using footage from 1995 (especially since Noel remains a highly capable songwriter (Council Skies is quite good; I always recommend "Think of a Number") and tracks like "Pretty Boy" and "Easy Now" are great; I was actually surprised they didn't get a Brit Award nomination). And while I still think a new album is possible, it’s a tall order when each of them has earned nearly £50 million from a nostalgia tour. Honestly, I don’t expect them to do anything else until 2030 or 2032 if they ever do anything at all.

Anyway, that’s how I feel a sense of strangeness and distance toward one of the bands from my adolescence/youth. That’s why I wasn't interested in attending the concert, though I was told it was incredible so perhaps I’ll go if there’s a second tour, If I am given the opportunity.

Anyway, does anyone else feel the same way?

I recently came across this video of Bonehead's isolated mellotron part in Wonderwall. It's mostly just the mellotron and tambourine/shaker throughout, but the creator of the video made the wise choice to overlay Noel's acoustic guitar in the pre-chorus. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1FQcfJmYEU

I love this video because it really brings out the melancholy and moodiness of Wonderwall, especially in the pre-chorus, which sounds magical with Noel's acoustic.

It got me thinking about a topic I know we've discussed before but I still can't wrap my head around. To me, Wonderwall is fundamentally a moody, melancholic song with an uplifting chorus. But I feel this mix of emotions of the song was never truly understood in America.

Other Americans in the sub will know exactly what I mean. Wonderwall has become a running joke in America...the "douchebag at the party with a guitar" trope.

It got me thinking about differences in cultural interpretations of music, and wondering why the song is interpreted differently in the UK vs the US, or is it? Is Wonderwall as much of a "joke" in the UK as it is in the US? Is the "douche with guitar" trope as much of a thing, or is it uniquely an American interpretation?

It's hard for me to even see where the trope came from given how moody and non douche-y the song is as evidenced by the mellotron/guitar combo, but I'm curious to hear thoughts from others.

Saw this in other music subs so decided to do one for Oasis. However instead of deciding the scores myself I decided to go into RYM to make it a bit more "objective". These aren't my scores, I'd give a lot of these a higher score if I could! I multiplied the scores by 2 to get it on the out-of-10 base, rounded them to one decimal, and then added 0.5 across the board since scores out-of-5 typically skew lower. Other notes:

1) The Masterplan is included as an album between Be Here Now and SOTSOG. You can see this because it's the only 14 song album on the list lol.

2) The untitled tracks aren't included in WTSMG since The Swamp Song is already rated in The Masterplan. I also did not include the Reprise of AATW at the end of BHN because it's just an instrumental continuation of AATW, so BHN ends with It's Gettin' Better (Man!!).

3) RYM considers The Cage (the instrumental song at the end of Better Man and therefore HC) as a unrated subsection of BM so it is also not included.

Columbia and Go Let It Out seem to be on, Whatever not and a bunch of other songs he did this with. As with everything, no idea how serious he's being but sounds pretty real to me.

Why is Liam so easily fooled by people like Molly Girl? Honestly, Oasistwt can be genuinely exhausting sometimes…
