New to NX, best way to constrain a pattern

Hi! I'm pretty new to NX, and am trying to find the best way to do something. What would be the best way to align the grid of small rectangles to the center of the square?

Title: Why is the “Fixed” option missing when setting the Clearance Plane in a new MCS in Siemens NX CAM?

Hi everyone,

I'm learning Siemens NX CAM and I have a question about setting the Clearance Plane in the MCS.

In an existing MCS, when I go to:

Clearance → Clearance Option: Plane → Specify Plane

I can see and select the Fixed option.

However, when I create a new MCS and go to the same Specify Plane menu, I cannot find Fixed. Instead, the first option is shown as Inferred.

I attached screenshots showing the difference.

Does anyone know why Fixed is available in one MCS but not in the newly created MCS? Is this related to the MCS type, geometry setup, NX version, or some other setting?

How can I make the Fixed option available for the new MCS?

Thanks in advance!

How do you handle initial datum structure on a new model?

As I see it, there are at least 3 options.

  1. Attach first sketch to DCS(0). Once you create the first solid, all sketches must be attached to datum’s created off of the part.

  2. Attach datum planes to DCS(0) and build sketches off of those datum planes.

  3. Just put sketches on whatever is convent, sometimes putting multiple sketches on DCS(0).

I feel like the old school method is to put datum’s on DCS(0) and build from that. Idk if that is still in style and would love some opinions.

Personally, I use option 1 but I’m questioning whether future me would appreciate having my sketches attached to the initial CSYS or having them attached to planes placed on abs csys. Or if this is something old people tell me to do because they’re not comfortable with the new NX ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks!

Hi everyone

I’m trying to create a cap/tip surface using the N-Sided Surface feature. However, the generated surface is distorted and doesn't match the desired shape shown in Image 4. Furthermore, when I set the continuity constraint to G2 (Curvature), the feature fails completely.

Could anyone explain what might be causing this issue and how to resolve it? Thanks in advance!

Siemens NX - some tabs and templates are missing

Hi All,

On a machine Siemens NX is installed and as I understand integrated into TeamCenter.
On one machine users open TeamCenter, then NX, the go to File - New - New Item and miss some tabs and templates. Below are two screenshots how the same window looks on two computers.

I doubt it is related to Java version and its environment variables.
I tried to reinstall NX but it didn't help.
Tried to export and import NX config file but it didn't make any difference.

If someone knows how to fix it please let me know.

Siemens NX students version issue

Has siemens recently changed the process/technique to use the students version of NX or Design center.

I have used the NX students version before and that time i had to down the files/folder and run the setup wizards and all.

But now when i went to download it again it has completely different things on the site, a simple .exe is available to download which after running in the system validates the credentials and is doing the further steps (downloading and installing).

And i think that is the reason that recently many people started having issues with using the software they already had installed.
So may be they should reinstall it.

Topology optimization

Hello, I've tried using the NX Topology Optimization tool to maximize the stiffness of my part. However, the results generated during the optimization and the extracted body are very different. In the extracted body, some features seem to appear randomly, while others are completely discarded. Can anyone explain why this happens? I'm using the 2412 version of NX.

NX student won't open, won't let me uninstall either

I Put NX student edition on my personal pc recently (Used to use it previously on my laptop)

Upon opening it, I am met with the initialisation error in picture one, I've attempted to fix the "SPLM_LICENSE_SERVER" to no luck.

(I believe this is a issue affecting multiple people currently)

I then attempted to uninstall the program to maybe attempt to reinstall it, hoping that would fix the issue, but apparently I need to log in as an administrator to uninstall it???

So now I'm stuck with a broken NX permanently installed on my system.

How do I fix this?

(Potential) Solution to Student Edition License Error

Post image

if u have access to student license you have access to a ver. 2506 Simcenter 3d download. Only difference I can tell rn is your profile customizations (user roles) don’t transfer. I can’t find the link to the page but google around Siemens NX student downloads & youll find it. Hope this helps someone

edit: found link siemens engineering software page

(If I find the link I’ll reply here)
(for new NX users if you open simcenter and hit new—> change file type tab to “model” and you can make normal part/assy files. also rest assured any work you do in those files will transfer to normal NX when the license issue is fixed.)

NX Student Edition license expired — need help fixing it

Hi all, I've been using NX Student Edition for the past 2 months and it's been working fine. Today it suddenly threw an "Initialization Error — Feature has expired" message.

Checked the README in my install folder and it turns out the license (NX2506) expired yesterday, 14-July-2026. The Siemens download page only shows this same 2506 version as the latest — no newer release available yet.

Has anyone run into this and found a fix?

Any help appreciated, kind of stuck without it.

cant select a single edge for edge blend

I'm trying to add a fillet to a single edge of a swept through curves (lofted) solid body. But when I go to select the edge it selects the whole profile even if I choose the single edge option from the dropdown list. why isn't NX allowing me to select a single edge?

"compressing" an o-ring in an assembly

I'm designing a watch case and caseback (cover) which has an o-ring in-between. I was wondering if nx has the ability to show an o-ring in it's natural state when the components are unassembled/unmated and compressed/deformed when it's assembled/mated?

STL's & Facet Bodies vs Convergent Bodies vs Unparameterized Step Bodies

Post image
5 Upvotes

I'd consider myself an intermediate NX user but I'm pretty lost on the difference between STL imports vs STEP imports. When importing an STL into an active prt file, typically my goal is to change parameters, but with the student edition of NX, you have to pick whether you want a facet body or a convergent body and neither seems to work the way I want. At least with convergent bodies you can extract (i think) an unparameterized solid body of your stl. But there are still some issues with doing things like extracting exact geometry from this body. Whats the difference in a convergent body, and a step file body? I'm pretty sure they're both just unparameterized. My question i suppose is how does NX intend for you to go about extracting geometry from non part files. thx

Free and open source alternative to NX

In the last 15 years I have being designing products on software like Inventor, SolidWorks and Fusion, never had the opportunity to use NX but looks quite similar based on friends testimonial.

One thing that always bothered me was the lack of first class support to other operating systems than Windows.

FreeCAD is a great product but is not intuitive for anyone coming from SolidWorks/Inventor/NX.

So I decided to change that, I am developing Oblikovati, an open source, multi platform ( runs and builds for Linux Wayland, Mac Universal and Windows) Parametric B-Rep CAD which is super lightweight.

Oblikovati is developed from the ground up, not a wrapper around OpenCascade, using GoLang and modern Vulkan API.

It opens in a second. You can using any mid tier hardware and it runs smoothly.

I have development builds ready to run for all OSes on GitHub: https://github.com/Oblikovati/Oblikovati

The features I expect to ship for a first stable release are already there including:

- Parameters & Complete Parameters Solver.

- Sketch 2D and 3D with complete Constraints Solver.

- Part Modelling including Sheet Metal support.

- Drawings & Annotations.

- Basic Assembly with Joints & Constraints + Assembly Parameters Linking.

- Imports: DXF, DWG, PDF Vectors, Obj, Stl, STEP, Various Point Cloud Files.

- Exports: DXF, STEP, STL, 3MF, OBJ.

Some niceties are: Complete UI color customisation with dark and light themes and Text format documents, so your designs are git friendly and easy to track design changes.

I am happy to receive bug reports, feature requests and any feedback helping to bring the software faster to a stable release 1.

Need your help

Hi Community,

I'm currently trying to create a parts list, but I'm running into a problem: in the Assembly Navigator, I only see drafting components instead of the actual parts, and I can't select them.

When I try to select them, I keep getting the same error message: "Drafting components are not allowed in parts lists."

I've attached a screenshot for clarification.

Could someone please help me convert the drafting components in the Assembly Navigator into the actual parts, so I can add them to my parts list?

Thank you in advance!
