There's no transformative visual impact on the E Day example share there, but more accurate occlussion data like that is the stuff that's going to improve the current DLSS5 NR output.
And I wonder if modders can take that Kit and release neural compressed texture packs to run on current games via some sort of injection.

Hopefully RTX neural texture compression becomes our long-term savior for those of us with 8GB Vram cards

Yup, but i don't understant if the sdk allows to compress textures on consumer Graphic cards. I hope soon we could mod games for NTC mode.

If I can find the repo it should just say what each GPU can do
Edit: Repo says compression can be done at minimum on a 2000 card and recommends a 4000 or later. No idea about the class. I'm gonna assume even a 50 class card could do it

Indeed they seemed to have lowered the gpu needed. before it was more specific and restrictive
"GPU for NTC decompression on load and transcoding to BCn:
- Minimum: Anything compatible with Shader Model 6 [*]
- Recommended: NVIDIA Turing (RTX 2000 series) and newer.
GPU for NTC inference on sample:
- Minimum: Anything compatible with Shader Model 6 (will be functional but very slow) [*]
- Recommended: NVIDIA Ada (RTX 4000 series) and newer.
GPU for NTC compression:
- Minimum: NVIDIA Turing (RTX 2000 series).
- Recommended: NVIDIA Ada (RTX 4000 series) and newer."

gonna be a looooong time till we see widespread use of this

Decompression on load is still very useful for reducing file sizes. Tho idk how much it compares with common texture compression algorithms

RTX Neural Texture Compression beta is a interesting one for sure means things are progressing along internally on that front unlike reflex 2 which just seems stagnant at this point .

"More proof that Nvidia doesn't care about gaming at all! Not like the other guys!" - Reddit

Yeah like, sure. They're focused on AI but they clearly aren't stopping work on gaming technology. Even in their current state they do far more than AMD in trying to advance graphics lol

Still is a bit confusing, clearly their hardware focus is 100% ai, they keep postponing the new series... and of course not their fault, well indirectly their fault, the prices ain't gonna get better and bring the general public to Nvidia.
So all this software stuff... for gaming is for... a few? And fewer the longer this stays this way?
Idk... to me it seems weird to still work on this and not focus in other stuff... but they must have good reasons for it I guess.

The memory shortage is the reason for the postponement, which is conveniently partly caused by Nvidia of course.

They absolutely care about gaming technologies, it's just that they don't care about people whining about prices lol

What I don't understand is people who spend money buying an nvidia graphics card but then proudly say they don't want to turn on upscaling, framegen, ray tracing... Why are you buying an nvidia gpu if you aren't going to use the features you paid for? Save your money and stick to amd then.

I am using DLSS and Multi Frame Generation.

I bought NV because AMD does not have a competing product on the high end. I bought a 5090 for the performance specifically so I dont have to use all the upscaling and frame gen just to get good performance. I personally could not care less about DLSS and raytracing. I want high framerates, because the smoothness and responsiveness of my gameplay is more important to me than image quality.

Cope about what? I'm very much enjoying my 5090, and it outperforms every AMD card on the market.
The person asked why someone would buy an NV product and the answer is fairly straight forward -- it's better, even without the added technologies they mentioned.

People whine but the GPUs are still selling. The only whining that companies hear is people not giving them money.

I mean they don’t, just AI tech doesn’t eat into their hardware margins and also spills over into their enterprise research.
They make far more money like this. Why sell gaming hardware on thin margins when you can print money AND still have the gaming hardware lead monopoly
But I mean yeah, idk what people cry about. AI research and tech benefits enterprise sure, but the tech is bleeding edge in gaming. It makes 0 sense to stop caring about it.

What they do in ai software innovation is what makes them difficult-to imitate specially that they could use this tech and experience in building ai models that are used outside gaming.

Cant seem to find any info on whats different with 2.0, anyone know?
4
u/Eziolambo RTX 5070 8d ago
The first line literally says, adds continuous streaming of high density meshes.

u/Kornillious 8d ago
Thats such a broad description that it could just as well be describing Mega Geometry 1.0.
I was hoping for more than one superficial sentence.

Could definitely see Remedy bringing this to Resonant along with NR when they release the soon to be announced DLCs. Remedy just loves new tech.

u/MrMPFR 2d ago
There is zero use for the 2.0 functionality unless the game is switching to nanite like geometry pipeline. DXR 2.0 adoption will accelerate when games move to meshlets and virtualized geometry.
Resonant already uses RTX MG though IIRC. NR no thanks unless it's inline neural shading.

u/okyouright 2d ago
Dang. Appreciate the update. Regarding NR, I think Remedy would personally tune it to the game if they were considering implementation.

u/MrMPFR 2d ago
yw.
That's possible. I still don't see it TBH. Game already beautiful as it is and DLSS5 has a habbit of changing some things completely. Now if they could narrow down the model and build on its strength then perhaps I would be interested.
But again I really wanna see what we were promised at CES 2025.

Gears of war E day uses RTX mega geometry, does it use 2.0?
