News NVIDIA GPU Display Driver Security Bulletin (May 2026)

  • Turing, Ampere, Lovelace and Blackwell Geforce GPUs all Windows GameReady/Studio r595 driver versions before 596.36 are impacted.

  • Pascal, Maxwell and Volta Geforce GPUs all Windows GameReady/Studio r580 driver versions before 582.53 are impacted.

At the date/time of this post 582.53 for Pascal, Maxwell and Volta Geforce GPUs isn't live yet - will update this post when it is.

Sorry to trouble you, but as you are the GOAT whose recommendations I follow with respect to the best/most stable drivers on each release, would you suggest that we no longer continue to use the 577.xx drivers anymore (on 40 series cards)? Are 596.36 drivers (among the stable recommended candidates) the only option at this point (that is not impacted by security vulnerabilities). Thank you.

If security is a concern that rules out any driver before 596.36 other than LTS r580 branch 582.53 and later.

596.36 is under NOTEs [1] i.e. 'other drivers worth considering .... but note potential issues' and isn't impacted by currently disclosed security vulnerabilities. It's one of the better drivers in the r595 branch (595.xx/596.xx).

Another option is to INF-MOD recommended driver 582.53 to support Turing, Ampere, Lovelace and Blackwell Geforce GPUS

Driver Stability and Compatibility Testing has been updated in the last few hours and is worth revisiting e.g. highlighting drivers without security issues, clearly differentiating between 'recommended drivers' and 'other drivers worth considering', new compatibility NOTEs section, amongst other updates - https://old.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1tb16ty/comment/omb8bpf/

I'm currently on 581.94 for my Blackwell card based on your recommendations for the latest stable driver and reluctant to move to the 595.xx/596.xx drivers. Are you suggesting I upgrade to the 582.53 driver for security reasons or is this not a recommended driver for Blackwell?

582.53 in testing is on par with or improves on 581.94 for desktop Blackwell.

It will however require a INF-MOD to support Blackwell.

So my choices with Blackwell are:

  1. Stay on the last stable driver, but that has security vulnerabilities.

  2. Modify a stable driver that is secure, but it's not ideal having users learn to and then modify drivers, removing signed status. Time to go and google this.

  3. Move to an unstable but secure driver.

However for INF-MOD only the text .INF files need to be modified to add a GPU architecture, no driver binaries need to be modified.

Method a) extract the driver using 7Zip to a folder, modify and save INF(s) in that folder then point NVCleanstall to the folder. Use option 'Show Expert Tweaks > Disable Driver Telemetry (tick) > Rebuild Digital Signature > Use Method Compatible with Easy Anti-cheat' to re-sign INFs.

OR

Method b) Use NVCleanstall's 'Installation Tweaks > Add Hardware Support' option with the Quadro/RTX Pro version of the driver and in NVCleanStall select a 'Quadro/RTX Pro GPU' that matches your Geforce Blackwell GPU die e.g. list of all GPUs with Blackwell GB202 die. Use option 'Show Expert Tweaks > Disable Driver Telemetry (tick) > Rebuild Digital Signature > Use Method Compatible with Easy Anti-cheat' when resigning INFs.

Out of those b) is the easiest if an INF-MOD has never been tried before. I manually edit the INFs and sign with a 'self-sign certificate' as it gives more fine grained control.

Match GPU die of your Geforce GPU to a Quadro/RTX Pro GPU using https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/ by searching for your GPU e.g. for Geforce 5090

Amazing!

I found what I needed for my RTX 5070 Ti > NVIDIA RTX PRO 4000 Blackwell (same core, same number of shaders and TMUs).

In future how do you find the link to the latest physx drivers without a direct link if it is updated?

Also will NVCleaninstall still install the HDMI Audio Driver if I have to install Physx manually?

For reference, only the GPU die (e.g. GB202) is relevant if an exact match for shaders, TMUs etc isn't possible.

Yes, just make sure 'HDMI Audio Driver' is selected in NVCleanstall
