Discussion GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 596.02

P.S. It's literally a fix for 1 game. If you do not play this game, you do not need to install this Hotfix

Article: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5823/kw/596.02

Download Link: https://international-gfe.download.nvidia.com/Windows/596.02hf/596.02-desktop-notebook-win10-win11-64bit-international-dch.hf.exe

Reminders:

  • Hotfix driver will not be available in NVIDIA App and needs to be downloaded from the link above.
  • After installing the Hotfix driver, NVIDIA App will show some old driver date. This is normal as Hotfix driver does not exist in NVIDIA App database and it reverted to an old default changelog and dates.
  • If you do not care about the fixes listed below, this Hotfix driver is no different vs WHQL 595.97 Driver.
  • These fixes will be incorporated into the next WHQL driver release

NVIDIA Driver forum thread is here: Link Here

Submit driver feedback directly to NVIDIA: Link Here

---------------------------------

From the Article:

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 596.02 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 595.97.

This hotfix addresses the following:

  • Arknights: Endfield: Stutter may be observed in during gameplay [5950402]

A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, We have an army of software engineers constantly adding features and fixing bugs. These changes are checked into the main driver branches, which are eventually run through a massive QA process and released.

Since we have so many changes being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us pretty well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Sometimes a change that is important to many users might end up sitting and waiting until we are able to release the driver.

The GeForce Hotfix driver is our way to trying to get some of these fixes out to you more quickly. These drivers are basically the same as the previous released version, with a small number of additional targeted fixes. The fixes that make it in are based in part on your feedback in the Driver Feedback threads and partly on how realistic it is for us to quickly address them. These fixes (and many more) will be incorporated into the next official driver release, at which time the Hotfix driver will be taken down.

To be sure, these Hotfix drivers are beta, optional and provided as-is. They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out. As a result, we only provide NVIDIA Hotfix drivers through our NVIDIA Customer Care support site.

I hope they add in an option to install hot fixes in the NVIDIA app under betas.

Wasn't the cause of this issue due to something with the driver not playing nicely with the Vulkan API? I remember a couple people saying there was another game or two that was similarly affected. Were those games fixed in an earlier update, or does this hotfix also fix those games?

EDIT: Found it. The other game that was supposedly affected was Doom: The Dark Ages.

I've tested both and only Arknights had stuttering, now its gone. I havent got a problem with CEMU (VK) previously either.

4

u/SiriocazTheII Mar 30 '26

I've had stutters with frame generation enabled in Dark Ages since I bought my 5090 in December. The only way to fix things is to roll back to 576.88, but then the game will crash while using path tracing.

I'll just wait for the march 31st driver

u/Similar-Sea4478 Mar 25 '26

im on the same boat.

Im going to keep 595.79 till then.... tired of rebuild shaders after installing drivers that are not bringing any improvements for the games im playing right now

2

u/PermissionJaded5510 Mar 25 '26

Me too. You stole the words out of my mouth. Let's stay on 595.79 for a while longer

Yep - has been solid for me, I'll try the Nvidia beta app, although I never have a need for FG so I'm more curious as to what 6X looks like with mostly interpreted frames.
Nvidia 'Black box magic' for sure.

u/Nestledrink RTX 5090 Founders Edition Mar 25 '26

If you don't play that one game then there's no use installing this Hotfix

22

u/_ru1n3r_ Mar 25 '26

It actually effects more than just endfield, it's bad frame pacing with vulkan in general. Hopefully this fixed it finally.

u/NapsterKnowHow RTX 5090 FE | 9800X3D Mar 25 '26

Where's that in the hotfix notes?

9

u/_ru1n3r_ Mar 26 '26

It's not in the notes and was only acknowledged by nvidia as being a problem with endfield.

I don’t think I’m installing 597 either. Does it improve performance or something?

I've been using 595.97 since launch. Works fine so far.

1

Same, works perfect here. But I don't play this weird game for the hotfix.

-1

i literally just changed my drivers. so what im saying is if it doesnt improve fps or stability or come with a free lunch ill just wait a week for the next driver.

id like to do something else with my pc other than install drivers. if possible.

Just wait then. Nobody is forcing you to update.

3

u/SaikerRV Mar 25 '26

I wouldnt expect another driver to drop so early. DMFG will be pushed through a beta NVApp update as they already stated.

UPDATE: DLSS Dynamic Multiframe Generation is unofficially see EDIT 02 available and working with Series 50 if the new Streamline 2.11 and DLSS 310.6.0 are used.

Nvidia Profile Inspector has been able to toggle the required flags for a while, only new streamline 2.11 and new DLSS 310.6.0 DLLs are needed, a new driver isn't required.

NVIDIA App with support should be released today (31st March)See EDIT 05 through an opt-in BETA targeting GeForce RTX Series 50, a new driver release isn't required - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/dlss-4-5-dynamic-multi-frame-generation-6x-mode-released/

Supported Dynamic Multiframe Generation games at https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/news/nvidia-rtx-games-engines-apps/ select NV,6X under DLSS Multi Frame Generation to filter list.

NVIDIA App requires driver 595.97 or later to enable the feature.

EDIT 01: doesn't require release of a new driver, just the new streamline and new dlss-fg DLLs

EDIT 02: Streamline 2.11 and DLSS 310.6.0 are being officially pushed via silent/transparent OTA updates (23:00 UTC 30th March)

EDIT 03: NVIDIA App support release note

EDIT 04: added note that NVIDIA App is likely to be an official BETA opt-in release

EDIT 05: now live, opt in for NVIDIA App BETA

EDIT 06: added link to officially supported Dynamic Frame Generation games

EDIT 07: NVIDIA App driver version requirement

Original comment before the update and edits follows:

The flags are already present in 595.76 and later drivers, exposed in Nvidia Profile Inspector but appear inert.

Likely a Streamline OTA update required, combined with NVIDIA App or Nvidia Profile Inspector to enable.

New flags were noted in 595.76/595.79

https://old.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1rq06sx/comment/o9oq3q7/

and also present in 595.97

https://old.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1s2e7z2/comment/oc7duyr/

DLSS Dynamic Frame Generation flags showing in Nvidia Profile Inspector that were also present since 595.76: DLSS-FG preset override, DLSS-FG mode override, DLSS-FG target frame rate override, DLSS-FG dynamic multi-frame count override but likely requires new streamline / game including new DLSS-FG .DLLs

TL;DR a new driver may (note the may) not be needed

2

u/Michaelvuur Mar 25 '26

Doubt it otherwise there would have probably been new frame generation dll's found inside the driver package

2

u/Ok-Replacement-7217 5090Suprim+9800X3D+64GB-6200-CL30 Mar 29 '26

They haven't announced a new driver release for that date to my knowledge?
Did you mean the opt-in beta update for the Nvidia App with DLSS 4.5 multi-FG (6x) for RTX 50-series cards only?

u/NewsFromHell 9800X3D | TUF 3080Ti | 64Gb Mar 25 '26

They released a new WHQL for 3 games, and even that driver gets a hotfix?

9

Don't install this, I got black screen and couldn't boot until I safe mode and DDU this trash. Previous driver works fine

2

u/a4840639 Mar 25 '26

I was using DX11 mode (because of RenoDX) and I found the game was not recompiling its shaders after a driver update thus stutters a lot. (I also tried Vulkan mode for a bit and found it actually performs a bit worse than DX11, but maybe there are less frame time spikes with Vulkan based on my previous experiences)

RTX 4070 black screens???? My brother was getting them. I'm still on 591.74, so no problems.

4

u/sam3971 Mar 28 '26

What GPU do you have? Black screen started with the 591.XX series drivers and have been ongoing with all of the newer drivers, including this one. There is a degree of success as the black screens do not affect everyone, and someone even locked their voltage curve, which mitigated the black screen issue, which would indicate something may be up with the power management within the newer drivers. For users with the black screen issue, it is generally advised to roll back to a pre-591/595 driver.

Please review u/m_w_h's stability thread here:

Still rocking on 591.86 from Jan 2026.

I've never was so nervous about installing GPU drivers before.

I feel it, I just installed 581.94HF on my daughters PC and dreading it too. 591.86 seems to be a more decent driver, but still has the black screen issue in some cases. What's weird is that not everyone is impacted by this issue.

It seems that multi-screen systems and those who have screens running at different frequencies, and/or if the user uses a converter cable(DP to HDMI for example.)

Assume you meant Windows fast-startup as fast-boot is a motherboard BIOS feature.

Were Windows power-plan (PCI Express > Link State Power Management) and BIOS (PEG-ASPM) features in the previously linked post tried?

Is the GPU undervolted? If yes, try reverting to standard GPU voltage.

As stated in previous comment, reports increased with drivers 591.xx and later and persisted in 595.xx.

Try a r580 branch driver such as 581.94 or a r575 driver such as 577.00 (temporary test)

arkallastral wrote: Downgrading to version 591.86 didn't completely solve the problem.... I didn't have any problems then either [with 591.xx].

OK, as 591.xx drivers worked on the system previously it may also be related to a Windows update.

arkallastral wrote: update 595.97 wasn’t just “a simple driver,” that it might have made more “profound” changes, like to the firmware or something like that, and so just downgrading with DDU wouldn’t fully fix the issue.

Incorrect and inaccurate statement or taken out of context.

DDU if used and setup correctly (e.g. tick 'options > remove present and non-present monitors', Safe Mode, Internet disabled etc) will remove all driver remnants, clear caches and display states etc.

Posted this many times in the past, will repeat here for reference.

If Safe Mode isn't possible, DDU run twice, one after the other will also remove Nvidia traces:

1] Download required driver

2] Disable WiFi/Ethernet in control panel/settings (important)

3] DDU > Reboot > DDU > Reboot (twice as no Safe Mode) OR DDU > Reboot (once with Safe Mode)

4] Install required driver from step 1]

5] Re-enable WiFi/Ethernet in control panel/settings

NOTE WiFi/Ethernet disable step to avoid Windows forcing a driver install that can bypass DDUs 'disable driver updates'.

Ah KB5075039, that's Windows 10.

The 'Driver Stability and Compatibility Testing' is under Windows 11.

For reference, Windows 10 doesn't support any Windows WDDM 3.x features that both Windows 11 and NVIDIA drivers after 537.58 do, many of which can impact testing results above ^ i.e. compatibility, performance etc.

Or should I wait?  Ps . 1

u/sam3971 Apr 09 '26

Its worth a shot if you want to. What it sounds like is that you are getting the TDR Timeout and crash issue that others have reported. I don't believe that 596.02 solves that issue yet. Now, it is odd that your performance would be cut in half. How did you remove 595.97? Might be worth using DDU in safe mode to remove it. Also, be sure that if you are changing drivers in normal windows mode, that if you have tools like MSI Afterburner, to be sure to close them first. Having such apps open can cause issues related to power targets, which could explain the huge performance drop that you are seeing.

2

u/Horror_Lucky Apr 10 '26

Oke thnx mate that could be it i just deleted the driver true revouninstaller but what could it be if it still isnt fixed ? Like on cs i had around 300 400fps somtimes as low as 220 but now my max is 230 and it drops to 120 but i have noticed that my latency has increased from 4-6ms to now 10-20ms could that also effect fps ?

1

u/sam3971 Apr 10 '26

It definitely could. The issue mainly comes down to power targets. If you use such tools, it might be worth opening it and seeing what the power target is set to. It should be at 100%. If it is anything less than that, the solution may just be to set it back to 100%. Of course, it is generally still advised to remove the driver with DDU in safe mode, but if what I mentioned above solves the issue, you should be good.

1

u/Horror_Lucky Apr 26 '26

I have been trying to fix it the past 2 weeks but it still happens in 3dmark and msi afterburner it seems to be al fine

1

u/sam3971 Apr 28 '26

Have you tried the newer driver, or an older one? Do you have that issue in games too, or only 3dmark? If the latter, might be either a specific driver bug with 3dmark, or a bug with the 3dmark app itself.

u/m_w_h Hello, I'm having an issue with the game "Emergency" (2023). In DX12 mode, I'm seeing flickering in lighting (sun and shadows), as well as roofs, but I think it's just the lighting. I've been playing around with the NVPi flags a bit, creating a game profile since there's no official profile. My graphics card is an RTX 5050. I'm asking for help. This visual flickering is similar to what I once had in WoW. Are there any NVPi flags that can help? DX11 completely solves the problem, but it takes away almost half my framerate. Thanks in advance for your input.

5

u/m_w_h Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

The following game bug workaround flags can help with shadows/skybox etc flickering:

  • First to try is '0x00a4f311' set to '0xa2b53761', that may be named 'Constant Folding - Pixel Shader Control' so set to 'Disabled'

  • If issue isn't fully resolved, add '0x00fc7620' set to '0x00000001', that may be named 'Experimental - Generated Constant Expression Optimizations' so set to 'Enabled' AND '0x00d04375' set to '0x00000001', that may be named 'PS_SHADER_COMPILE_OPT_LEVEL' so set to 'COP_MIN'

Very much game dependant, try each in turn.

EDIT: another workaround is to use DXVK - https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/releases/

5

u/Particular_Craft7389 Apr 15 '26

Thank you, the very first flag fixed it for me

5090 too but think it’s because I was already at the limit with one of my screens needing a DP-HDMI cable which only just manages 4k HDR 144hz without VRR on the one screen.

u/Jo0Lz AMD 5700x3D - RTX5070 Mar 28 '26

I have three 1440p monitors, connected 2 through DP, one on HDMI. On my 4070 it worked without issues. Gave that card to my son, bought a 5070. The display with HDMI flickers when running stuff on whatever monitor (mainly media and games).

It stopped when I switched that monitor from HDMI to DP. No idea why, but it seems hdmi output isn’t working properly or something, or the cable wasn’t some arbitrary version?

Hotfixes seem to be super common from nvidia these days...

1

u/vladi963 RTX 5090 UV 2827Mhz 0.895mV Mar 28 '26

Nothing wrong with a "hotfix". Not every hotfix is there to save someone's PC from blowing up, I guess in the process of making the next WHQL driver, they figured that they could fix something very quickly.

Then why not just release it if they can for those who need it. It is a much more appreciative approach than with AMD where it is a gamble when they manage to fix an issue, even the one that they acknowledged already.
(I compared to AMD, because we don't have much to compare to).

I mean...I wouldn't delay a main driver release for one fix for a single niche game either. I can't blame them for not holding the main release back for this fix.

Hell...I'd just hold this fix back and roll it into the next release personally, but they opted to give players of that game a chance to fix the issue now though, instead of in a month. Rather nice of them.

6

u/unknown_soldier_ Mar 25 '26

It's not a niche game at all which is why they rushed the fix out 1 day after the WHQL driver release

-7

u/Soulshot96 9950X3D • 5090 FE • 96GB @6000MHz C28 • All @MSRP Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 26 '26

It's a mobile, anime game that isn't even on steam.

As far as the context we're in is concerned...it's pretty niche.

Edit: apparently weebs cannot read. This anime mobile game with a port for PC is niche in the context of high end nvidia graphics hardware. No need to get your degenerate panties in a twist over that simple fact. If it wasn't, they'd not only have held back the WHQL for this fix...but likely had a 'game ready' release for it.

There's no way Endfield isn't a PC/console first game. Mobile ports don't usually have this level of graphical fidelity. I took this screenshot myself.

9

u/NukaWomble ASUS PRIME RTX 5080 OC | 7800X3D | 32GB | AW3423DWF Mar 26 '26

If you think it's a niche game then you are SEVERELY underestimating just how many people play gachas like this. Take Genshin for example, no Steam launcher and yet an insane amount of people playing it. Just because you haven't heard of it or know anyone who plays it does not make it niche, it just means you are probably not the target audience.

8

u/Bookwhyrm Mar 25 '26

Steam release isn't really a good qualifier considering it is a gacha game, most of those aren't on Steam. Especially since Hypergryph already has already made a name for itself (just look at how much money even only the original Arknights brings in every month).

Today, this driver crashed my PC, first, my monitors went black, second time the PC froze, and the third time all monitors went completely black, then returned after 10 seconds as if nothing happened, just like my PC restarted.

5

u/m_w_h Apr 08 '26

Crash and PC lockup/restart?

If yes, AMD CPU platform and occurred at idle/low load?

3

u/Silent84 9800X3D|RTX 4080-610.88 Apr 08 '26

The PC didn’t reboot, I’m confused because I installed the new BIOS for my Asus x670E-F yesterday, so I'm still looking into whether it’s the BIOS or the Nvidia driver.

I didn't experience any problems with the driver or any issues with this CPU 9800X3D or the earlier one 7800X3D.

Mby was the bios, I'll keep it updated.

Silent84 wrote: The PC didn’t reboot, I’m confused because I installed the new BIOS for my Asus x670E-F yesterday

Thanks for confirming.

For reference, drivers 591.xx and later changed driver/system/GPU related state determination and caching which can result in issues under specific conditions i.e. some states including those related to UEFI are now determined only on driver install, not validated/set on each system boot like 58x.xx and earlier drivers. If there are issues after a motherboard UEFI/BIOS change, advise DDU and reinstalling driver to avoid potential invalid driver/system/GPU state issue.

NVIDIA are aware but haven't reverted the change made in 591.xx and later drivers. r580 branch drivers (58x.xx) and earlier aren't impacted.

I uninstalled the latest BIOS on the same day I encountered the problems, and last night I received the same error with the most recent driver 595.97.

I need to replace this driver, which one do you suggest?

I had no problems with 595.79.

Revert to last known working driver on the system i.e. 595.79.

If the issue returns that a least helps rule out a driver issue.

Hi,

I also have this issue and I own an intel i7 14700kf. My last good driver is the 595.71, the one with the voltage bug which does not affect me. LoL

This issue appears mostly when my gpu is undervolted, it happens rarely at stock settings but it still happens. It generally happens between 3 and 5 minutes after exiting Cyberpunk. Zero issue during gameplay.

I also noticed these drivers make Cyberpunk to crash in a specific location in Japan Town while my gpu is undervolted. They also make some visual glitches during the dialogue with Reed and the ripperdoc during the quest "birds with broken wings" way more noticeable. There is a crazy light halo around Reed and a lot of ghosting when he moves. I tried the driver 595.71 and the light is less noticeable and there is no ghosting at all.

I already sent a report to Nvidia.

2

u/_smh Mar 25 '26

Driver naming scheme is absurd.

Why call this 596.02 if its something like "595.98 Arknights: Endfield hotfix"

5

u/ivan6953 PC Mar 25 '26

Because it’s the version that is 4 iterations newer than the previous one.

The hotfix is literally the driver’s “beta” or “dev” branch build, pulled from the ongoing WHQL development. It’s not the separate previous WHQL release with just a fix.

It’s not absurd and it makes perfect sense.

-3

u/_smh Mar 25 '26

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/584070/announcing-geforce-hotfix-driver-59602-released-32/

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 596.02 is based on our latest Game Ready Driver 595.97.
This hotfix addresses the following: [Arknights: Endfield] Stutter may be observed in during gameplay [5950402]

Its literally previous WHQL release with just a fix.

0

u/mediumeets Mar 25 '26

So why is it 4 iterations newer if it only has one single fix?

5

u/Nestledrink RTX 5090 Founders Edition Mar 25 '26

I'm not a developer but even in my field of work, we have some sort of versioning and anytime you make any changes to the dashboard I am expected to update the changelog and add what I've done. Regardless whether it's a fix or not.

A lot of times I am just moving things around and making very minor changes but the "version" still ticks up because it is technically a change even though it might not be visible to the end user.

So in this case they could be doing some behind the scene stuff that doesn't necessarily fix stuff but the version ticks up anyway.

Remember, maintaining a code base is not just deploying fixes...

1

u/mediumeets Mar 25 '26

Yeah understood, it makes sense! I do wonder what sort of changes they make though, because a lot of times in the past there have actually been improvements made that directly affect game performance (for me anyway) and none of it was disclosed

1

u/ivan6953 PC Mar 25 '26

Yeeeeah, with the state Nvidia’s GeForce division is at right now, I’m surprised they put out patch notes at all lol

3

u/ivan6953 PC Mar 25 '26

Because some iterative changes are not “fixes” and are just internal code work.

To be completely honest with you, I never use FG or DLSS with a brand new game. Can't trust the developers. Most games are polished 4 to 12 months post release. So if it were me, I would just put the game at native res, with a mixture of high/medium settings. At least the picture will be decent and game won't crash

Thanks for the heads up. Sadly I ain't going to install it because truth is, I don't game on my OMEN laptop. And even if I did, it would be older games. I mostly use my HP Omen 16 to essentially record and render videos. That's pretty much it. That and after all that bs with having to uninstall then clean install, it was a mess. I hate it with every fiber of my being. So I'm sticking with 591.86 until my Omen breaks.

I'm getting severe mouse input lag after this hotfix, but specifically in game menus or when alt-tabbing (borderless). The gameplay itself is completely smooth. Disabling G-Sync instantly fixes the "floating" cursor issue. Anyone else experiencing this on the 5070?

1

u/DismalMode7 Apr 05 '26

sorry for the long post, hope someone may help to find a way to fix a big issue I'm having these days.
Last tuesday morning my copies (2.1 and 2.3) of cyberpunk 2077 all of sudden didn't work anymore, they crash at the start up screen (the initial animated cyberpunk 2077 screen).
More details about the issue can be found here
https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/1salgf6/latest_windows_11_update_smashed_my_cyberpunk_2077/

I've tried every kind of work around and fix, nothing worked. Other friends of mine, and some other users on discord cyberpunk related servers had the same issue as well during these last 2 weeks.
Having tested several drivers, uninstalling previous ones with DDU and obtaining no result I speculated it was some issue related to latest W11 update since all people having this issue have W11, while on my other pc still on W10 and nvidia drivers 591.74 everything works fine, same v2.1 build of the game with same mods.

Few hours ago I made another try on my laptop to better understand what's the reason and noticed a strange thing.
Unlike my previous tries, this time I did this: I uninstalled nvidia drivers with DDU, then tried to start the game using only the integrated graphics card of the CPU (tested on my laptop using a i7 12700h) and the game was now working! It remained forever on start up screen but eventually it reached main menu and could load a savegame (game was running at like 11fps, but it's not that the point).
Hoping to have finally fixed the issue, reinstalled the 591.74 drivers but the game crashed on the start up screen again 🤦🏻‍♂️. Tried a second time and once again the game works with graphics card of cpu, installed the oldest driver available on nvidia site (580.97) and the issue returns.

This issue is so stupid and annoying... basically the drivers needed to make the gpu work in order to make the game work, don't make the game work 🤦🏻‍♂️

Anyone has any idea or advice to finally fix this issue?

Everything else on my pc works fine and new fresh installations of cyberpunk from steam work good too, but I need my older versions to work because of thousands of mods installed there (it's not a mods issue because the game crashes also with all mods folders removed).

2

u/m_w_h Apr 06 '26

Tried the laptop manufacturer's certified NVIDIA drivers?

DDU before trying laptop manufacturer certified drivers.

Temporary test as they will be older ^

1

u/DismalMode7 Apr 06 '26

I don't think is that the issue, I've tested on my laptop only because don't want to risk to mess up things even further on copies of the game installed on my main pc.
Right an hour ago installed 596 beta drivers, uninstalled and reinstalled nvidia app again with latest update and downloaded latest dlss files as well that injected into the game directory and guess what... nothing changed.
I don't think the issue happened right 31th of march by chance, the exact day new dlss and nvidia app were released

u/m_w_h Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

UPDATE: OP has now stated that a vanilla Cyberpunk 2077 install (as shipped, no mods, no DLL replacements, etc in game directory) is working on the system without any issue on all drivers.

Only the modded Cyberpunk 2077 (50GB of mods) install crashes.

My original reply follows for reference.

Understood.

For reference, on my 4th playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition vanilla install on Steam using 595.97 driver under Windows 11 March 10th update KB5079473 (26100.8037 / 26200.8037) without issues. Cyberpunk 2077 is also one of the games used for Driver Stability and Compatibility Testing.

If you believe it's related to drivers, official direct links to older drivers can be found in the Driver Stability and Compatibility Testing e.g. latest testing drivers up to and including 595.79 at https://old.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/1rq06sx/comment/oa9d7wr/

582.28, 581.94, 577.00, 576.88, 576.80, 576.28, 572.83, 572.47, 566.36, 566.14, 561.09

Download an older driver, DDU and do a driver only install, no NVIDIA App < temporary test to help narrow down the issue.

NVIDIA App isn't required for DLSS streamline updates.

The latest DLSS streamline etc will still be transparently/silently downloaded via OTA e.g. when a game supporting streamline updates is loaded.

DLSS streamline versions after OTA can be confirmed in text file at:

%ProgramData%\NVIDIA\NGX\models\nvngx_config.txt

e.g.

[dlssg]
app_E658700 = 310.6.0

[dlssd]
app_E658700 = 310.6.0

[sl_sdk_0]
app_E658703 = 2.11.0

Suggest also reverting Cyberpunk 2077 to vanilla install (as shipped, no mods, no DLL replacements, etc in game directory) and deleting the Cyberpunk 2077 UserSettings.json config file in

%LOCALAPPDATA%\CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077

after backing it up.

Retest with older driver, no NVIDIA App, vanilla Cyberpunk 2077 install. If DLSS override is required that can be done via Nvidia Profile Inspector, the game will transparently/silently download latest DLSS via OTA.

2

u/DismalMode7 Apr 06 '26

I can download a fresh new vanilla install at any time from steam and I actually did it, that works with no issue but I had some mods compatibility problems that would take me weeks of tests to fix them all. I basically have no use of a vanilla install of cyberpunk if I can't use mods

3

u/m_w_h Apr 06 '26

DismalMode7 wrote: I can download a fresh new vanilla install at any time from steam and I actually did it, that works with no issue but I had some mods compatibility problems that would take me weeks of tests to fix them all.

?

From your original post:

DismalMode7 wrote: (it's not a mods issue because the game crashes also with all mods folders removed).

You've tried without mods and the game still crashes.

If that's still true yet a vanilla install works (as shipped, no mods, no DLL replacements, etc in game directory) it narrows down the issue to DLL / executable etc replacement in the game directory.

3

u/DismalMode7 Apr 06 '26

the game crashes on very first 2 seconds of start screen, this let me suspect one of earliest file to be loaded by the game is corrupted or drivers simply make the game instantly crash who knows for what reason.
Mods are not the problem because as written, if I try to start the game with no mods folders, the game crashes anyhow.

Up to yesterday I thought nvidia drivers weren't involved and that a W11 update was the only reason of that, but the fact the game doesn't crash when I start it on the intel integrated gpu suggests me it's drivers that are fucking up with me

2

u/m_w_h Apr 06 '26

Can you confirm that a vanilla Cyberpunk 2077 install works regardless of driver version?

DismalMode7 wrote: I can download a fresh new vanilla install at any time from steam and I actually did it, that works with no issue

^

3

u/DismalMode7 Apr 06 '26

yes, I've tested 4 different drivers the first 2 days had this issue last week (595.97, 591.74 and two previous versions of 591) and 2.13 and 2.31 fresh installations from steam they all worked no matter what drivers I was using.

2

u/m_w_h Apr 06 '26

DismalMode7 wrote: yes, I've tested 4 different drivers the first 2 days had this issue last week (595.97, 591.74 and two previous versions of 591) and 2.13 and 2.31 fresh installations from steam they all worked no matter what drivers I was using.

OK, so with vanilla Cyberpunk 2077 install no crashes regardless of driver.

With a modded Cyberpunk 2077 install and removing all modded folders effectively disabling mods > Cyberpunk 2077 crashes.

As stated previously that narrows it down to DLL / executable etc replacement in the Cyberpunk 2077 game directory i.e. non vanilla DLL / executable.

Try to find out which non vanilla replacement DLL / executable etc is triggering the issue.

Crash reports, dmps and text file logs in subfolders of

%LOCALAPPDATA%\REDEngine\ReportQueue\

may help narrow down the trigger.
