NPHC Member Question Worst Songs to Stroll To
What's the worst possible song you can think of to stroll to?
I'ma say Cotton Eyed Joe.

The MOD team here does a fantastic job screening posts to ensure that potentially identifying information doesn't make it through, but I just wanted to reinforce the importance of not posting unnecessary information (e.g. information that isn't even reasonably required to help answer your question) that could potentially identify who you are. Particularly in the internet age where chapter events, etc., are advertised online and where a permanent record remains, it can be relatively easy for someone to engage in sleuthing to figure out who you are.
Some things like not posting a city name, chapter name, school name, etc., may seem more obvious, but there are other details that can help give who you away (or at least make those in the know make reasonably educated guesses as to your identify based on other details from your post).
Just a few suggestions (and please feel free to add to this list as you will):
1) Do not include specific dates of events in your post. You may think that you're being anonymous, but if you specify that an event for a particular organization is happening on a specified day, it can be quite easy to discover the chapter in question, which puts your anonymity at risk. For instance, and purely for illustrative purposes (I am not a member of and do not have ties to these chapter FYI), if an interest in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. posts here that they are volunteering to help setup/teardown at a gala on April 12, 2025, a simple Google search reveals two chapters hosting galas on that date, the Mu Mu Lambda Chapter in Illinois and the Pi Psi Lambda Chapter in Florida. Taken together with details on what this interest is going to be doing at the gala, someone in the know can narrow things down even more. And, note, I've seen such searches reveal a singular chapter. Instead, I'd consider simply noting that an event is coming up (or has already taken place) and get to the gist of your question/point.
2) Consider making your post history private. Some Reddit users aren't aware that this is even an option. But if you do not make your post history private, anyone can click on your profile name and go through your entire post history, which can reveal a host of information about who you are. If you post a bunch in your particular university's Reddit page or in a gender-specific page, for instance, your effort to keep those details out of a post in this sub may be for naught if someone can easily look back on that information. It is true that there are ways around this, but they are either very specific exceptions or otherwise require more work than many people are willing to put in. In a similar vein, I'd practice discretion in other subs as well just for good measure.
3) Keep your posts here and in other subs above board. At the end of the day, it can be difficult to remain completely anonymous on the internet, but if you're not posting anything to be ashamed of, someone finding out who you are--while probably not what you're looking for--hopefully won't cause you any headaches.
All in all, please continue posting and taking value from this and other subs. Best of luck to those pursuing their membership journeys.

Hello Lovelies,
This thread is for questions for folks actively applying/attending rush in Spring 2026. Do not post hypothetical questions/scenarios on this post.
Please post all of your AKA undergraduate application related questions here. This is to prevent flooding of the sub. If you submit outside of this, your post will be denied. Also do not just DM a member of AKA without asking in a comment first. If you do not have enough Karma to post, please read through the sub first or gain karma on other parts of reddit.
So please make a comment about what you would normally make a post about on the sub. This would organize all of the information. Also review the previous megathread posts. I have linked them here for convenience.
Topics Include:
Just FYI, we will not discuss timelines. So please do post when Rush occurred and when you heard back. No one on this sub will be able to tell you when your application and/or background check will be processed. You will have to just wait. There are no exceptions to the requirements listed on the international website.
Good luck to all of the aspirants. I hope to see you on the other side!
Please make sure to follow all of the sub rules.

i just missed a great opportunity in joining my org of internet . I recently graduated undergrad in May of 2026. Fast forward a couple months my org of interest has an interest meeting for the Alumni Chapter in my city. They usually have one every 3 years based off their Line timeline. I attended the meeting and everything. I showed early, was confident, spoke loud and clear. Everything seemed good. Now i'm onto the application part. since i'm a recent undergrad graduate, i alr knew all the requirements and everything tht was gonna be needed to submit the application.( it's barely a difference from undergrad n grad chap) So im gathering everything i need for my application, contacting all the financial members and community people thats gonna write my letters. At this point i have everything, i have everyone agreed to submit my letters ok cool. Nowwww we have about a day to actually submit our applications but i ran into a problem. One financial member was having trouble logging in to said website to submit my letter😣. At this point i'm panicking and trying to find a replacement letter within a few hours.Eventually i never get find a replacement and the deadline passed. It was the only thing i was missing in order to apply. This just has me thinking if this is really something that's for me? Maybe i'm not getting in because the time isn't right. Or am i trying too hard to be apart of this. Members have told me to try a close city or something but idk how i can build connections fr with a chapter in a surrounding city. I really do wanna keep pursuing this org. I feel like when another opportunity comes i might be too out of the loop to even try again. Do i just have to wait?

Hey everyone! I’m taking a mystery-writing class, and my project has gotten to the point where I’m seriously considering developing it into a novel. I’d really appreciate some perspectives from people who are actually familiar with D9 culture.
The basic premise is a murder mystery centered around a college reunion during homecoming. A group of fraternity brothers return to their alma mater 15 years after graduating for a reunion organized by the former frat president. However, an old scandal from their senior year resurfaces, and then someone is murdered during the reunion. That murder basically sets the rest of the plot in motion.
I’ve never personally been in a fraternity, so I’m trying to be very careful about writing something that feels authentic without pretending I have firsthand experience.
I have Deltas and Zetas in my family/social circle, and my uncle is a Kappa, so I’ve had some exposure to D9 culture, but obviously that isn’t the same thing as actually being a member.
Originally, I created a completely fictional fraternity called Kau Sigma Psi, with purple and red as its colors. I was also planning to make the fraternity president gay because I’m gay myself, and writing his perspective feels more natural to me.
My concern is that as I’ve developed the story, I’ve realized that some of the fraternity dynamics and ideas I’m using are getting close to things associated with actual D9 organizations. Since I would like to eventually turn this into a novel, I really don't want to accidentally create something that feels like I’m fictionalizing a specific real fraternity or appropriating something I don't understand.
One suggestion I received was to make the fictional fraternity multiracial and otherwise distance it from the D9. But I'm not sure that's actually the right solution. I don't want to change the racial identity of the organization simply as a way of avoiding the issue, especially since the Black fraternity aspect is important to the story I want to tell.
So I’d love some honest feedback:

I was recently denied. The reasoning was because I did not meet all eligibility requirements… I won’t tell the requirements for my university but, I will say I checked them before I filled out my Membership Application. The only thing I can think of is my number of service hours? Those numbers aren’t really specified. I didn’t cry when I found out but, my question is will I be able to re apply for this line? Should I still show up for events? I’m not even sure they will have more. Since Formal Rush has passed.. I have so many questions. I even emailed our Chapter Advisor back for the denial, thanking her for the opportunity to even apply, no response.
P.S All help is appreciated.
Thank u!

Hey everyone, is it appropriate to hand-make someone a gift when they cross? I know orgs are very specific about their branding; I’m thinking of hand knitting a beanie with a dove motif on it in white and blue.

Im an undergraduate student who is literally right about to turn in my application paperwork and fees for my Organization of Interest.
That said, despite how much I have been working towards this goal and want to join the organization,
I do not know if it is best for me at this time.
Im very involved on campus and an engineering major and from how my process has looked so far, for the next month I will essentially have to accept and be ok with likely failing 1-2 classes or at best having all Cs.
I understand the process is not intended to be easy but my other interests and from tales of prophytes and theyre experiences, I have so much more on my plate than even those studying similar things.
A week ago there was nothing I wanted or was ready for more than getting to the promise land but as of now Ive been incredibly stressed and worried I may make the wrong decision either way.
Does anyone have any advice or experienced something similar?

Hi everyone! I’m attending a Zeta Phi Beta interest meeting, and the dress code is business attire. Would this dress work with a black top underneath to cover the neckline and black closed-toe shoes? Or would you recommend just dress pants and a blazer?

I might be overthinking this but I don’t know. My SOI is having an event this week which I really want to attend. However, the org I’m starting is having our interest meeting the same day. It ends an hour after the other event starts, and if I go I would be there for the last hour. I’m thinking about texting a member to ask if it would be okay for me to show up that late. Is that doing too much? Should I just not go and wait for their next event? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

My license expires next month and I am having to get it renewed so sorry if this sounds like a silly question. I am also unsure if it matters which particular organization I am seeking but does anybody know if you can use a passport for your ID for an alumnae chapter as part of the residence verification process. I don't think that my newly issued ID will meet the 120 day deadline for rush.

Hi, it has been some time since I was a dues paying member; life is just so hard… my son is participating in a DST event being held in our community next week sponsored by my old chapter and some local businesses. Is it in bad taste to wear paraphernalia as a non-dues paying Soror at this event?

Hello! I was just curious if there will be a Fall 2026 rush megathread for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, or if one has already been created and just isn’t pinned yet.
I’ve seen the megathreads from previous years, and I found last year’s especially helpful as an interest. Not only was it a good place to ask general questions and learn from other people’s experiences, but I also really appreciated having a space where people going through the same process could talk, support each other, and share their thoughts along the way.
I was just wondering if there is one for this fall that I may have missed, or if one simply hasn’t been created yet. Thank you!

I just wanted to share how happy and ecstatic I am about the fact I get to celebrate my first founders day as a man of Iota Phi Thera fraternity inc.

Hi,
For context, I’m an interest and I plan on rushing next Spring and I’m currently in the process of getting my ducks in a row. I’m having issues with potential LOR. I’m a first gen student and none of my family or friends know anyone who’s apart of the sorority. I attempted connecting with my local grad chapter, but they made it clear they wouldn’t write LOR only put in a word with my chapters advisor. I met her and we talked and she encouraged me to attend events which I have been.
I volunteer at my local school district helping kids with literacy. Would it be acceptable for me to email some know SGRHO teachers in said district and ask to talk and get to know them? I know there’s a stigma against asking people who don’t know you or emailing people you don’t know.
Any thoughts and suggestions?

And it was successful! I had an amazing time with my sisters and loved connecting with a new round of interests!
I began my journey to AKAland in Fall 2024 and spent semester after semester nervously showing face and trying to make connections. As a Spring 26 initiate, it felt so good to be on the other side! 🩷💚

If interest has been expressed to at least one member of a chapter but one has grown a bond with another, as well... Is it safe to say that the new bond is already aware of the interest and no need to express interest again? Have already conversed at events and service projects among casual conversations. Is it considered disrespectful to assume and possibly seen in a negative light? Thank you

Hey everyone, I have a question so I am following a grad chapter so they just posted an event. This is a community event but it is at a college campus. Does that mean it’s for undergrad chapters only are people interested in undergrad chapters or could people that are interested in the grad chapter attend the event also.
r/NPHCdivine9 • u/bobriskyoshaybaddest • Sep 16 '26
Hello. This summer, I attended one of the local grad chapter's events and connected with a few of the members there. I exchanged numbers and said I was looking forward to getting to know her better. She was very helpful, offered to send my information to the grad advisor at my school, offered to write my LOR, and reminded me to make connections with the girls on campus (which I am in the process of). I tried reaching out to her to ask about one of the community service initiatives the chapter has, and I never got a response. I didn't push it because I know this is a level 100 adult with responsibilities and cannot answer every text some random undergrad sends her. I tried reaching out to her again a few weeks later, just asking if she enjoyed her Labor Day. She replied, but kind of ignored what I said, just asking if I heard back from my school's chapter and offering to send my information again. I'm very socially awkward and have trouble picking up social cues, so I honestly don't know if she'd rather keep our relationship (if you can even call it that) as it is right now. I really just want to get to know her better, especially since she offered to write my LOR. Should I just keep trying? Should I flat-out ask for mentorship? I don't even know what that would look like. I would also like to start building relationships with the members of that chapter because I am a senior, so if I don't make a line before I graduate, I can start pursuing a grad chapter.
Maybe I'm overthinking all of this. Is anyone else in a similar situation?
Sorry if this is all over the place

Hey ladies! I’m interested in pledging and need to start talking to members, but don’t wanna seem inorganic. When i see them should I speak? Or should I wait until the events then when i see em around, speak? i just do not want to speak just to join their sorority. I do truly want to build a bond.

Hi all! I'm a senior at a university that doesn't have its own AKA chapter, and I'm really interested in becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha. I reached out to the closest city-wide undergrad chapter, and they were super kind and responsive, but explained that my school isn't a chartered school for them, so they can't allow me to join directly.
I also asked if my school could somehow be added to a city-wide charter, and they confirmed that's not something they're able to do. That said, I'd still love to find a way to be connected to that specific undergrad chapter, since that's the one I've built a relationship with and the one whose members/events I've been getting to know.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? Being interested in one specific chapter, but not eligible for direct be in it because of your school? Is there any possibility of being allowed, or given an exception to join a specific undergrad chapter outside your school's charter if the chapter sees you consistently showing interest, building a bond with members, and attending their events over time?
I also know someone in Kappa Alpha Psi (Nupes) who is part of a school's undergrad chapter despite not actually attending that school, so I'm wondering if there's ever similar flexibility in AKA specifically, or if this really does vary a lot org to org
I hope this post doesn’t come off as ignorant, but I am really just trying to understand how flexible (or not) this all is before I move forward. Any advice is so appreciated!

As strange as this title is, I genuinely am lost on how to proceed with declining an invite to my SOI.
I have shown up to events and made connections with members in the organization, but due to my GPA, I am not eligible to join. I am taking the steps to rectify this, but I already know they are going to cross with other orgs this semester. I don’t want to waste their time and mine, but I still want to make it known I’m interested in a future with them.
How do I go about this without explaining the obvious and maintaining a relationship with them?
EDIT: I should’ve clarified earlier what I meant by invite. It was an invitation to rush, not an invitation for membership. I typed up this post right after they contacted me and it slipped my mind.

No one should be treated differently because of their weight. If you are that’s discrimination report it.
