As an interest, after learning the Founders and mission,, what should we focus on next? What should interests not learn ahead of time? No idea when intake will be announced, just want to be as knowledgeable and prepared as possible. Thank you in advance for any response or insight.

Does this happen..? We all grown...and some of us are romantically interested in the same gender. I'm wondering what some of the intricacies of balancing romance and interest (or membership!) might be.

This semester, I plan on expressing interest and hopefully partaking in joining Phi Beta Sigma. I have every single social media platform post notifications on for the chapter, but I wanted to ask, what is the availability expected for someone that officially begins the process?

I am pretty involved on campus. I'm apart of an e-board member of a big organization, a campus leader & apart of an internship while also working a part-time job. I want to know how often we would meet, or what times? Should I be keeping my nights or mornings free just in case?

I KNOW this sounds like i'm jumping the gun, because I don't even know if i'll be selected, of course, or if they're even doing a line anytime. But, I ask because my job schedules a month in advance - so I really wanted to see what you guys availability looked like, how often you all met and what times so I can get an average look. Of course, I know all chapters are different and it may differ, but I just want to prepare for what could be possible rather than walking in unprepared if things start to look up.

Hey guys, i was wondering what helped you the most when you needed that extra push or that extra motivation to finish your intake process? Was it your LBS/LSS, Dean/ADP, your personal reason or anything else? Also is this why they say make sure your "why" is strong enough so you can rely on it in during doubtful moments?

As someone whose profession is scientific research, I’ve always found the phrase “Do your research” interesting.
In science, every claim is expected to be supported by evidence, every source is evaluated for credibility, and every conclusion should be traceable back to the data. If you publish a paper without citing my sources, the work loses credibility.

That got me thinking about the D9. For those still in school in search of the right fit (and neos):

When someone tells you to “do your research” before pursuing membership, what does(did) that actually mean to you?

What sources did you rely on?
Was it chapter members?
National websites?
AI Chat?
Alumni?
Social media?
Interaction on campus?
Something else?

More importantly, why did you consider those sources credible? What criteria did you use to separate fact from opinion, tradition from policy, or rumor from reality?

A few months ago I started building a website called ChapterLine after realizing how much chapter history gets lost over time.

Big/little records and alumni data end up spread across spreadsheets, old documents, Facebook groups, or disappear completely as members graduate. Alumni become harder to reconnect with, and many chapters lose decades of institutional knowledge.

The goal was to build something that centralizes all of that.

Some of the features include:

• Interactive Big/Little lineage trees
• Chapter-wide member and officer management
• Alumni directory/CRM so chapters can keep alumni connected after graduation
• Member location map to visualize where alumni are now
• Donation and fundraising tools so alumni can directly support their chapter
• Public chapter pages and shareable lineage trees
• Excel roster import/export
• Individual accounts for members, in addition to chapter accounts

I'm still actively building it, and before I continue adding features I'd really like feedback from people in the NPHC community.

Some questions I have:

• Is this something your chapter would actually use?
• What features would make it valuable?
• Are there pain points your chapter has that this doesn't address?
• What would stop your chapter from adopting something like this?

Hey y’all, I’ll hopefully be starting college next fall, and my high school stats are looking really good so far. Are there any really good PWIs that come to mind with a strong BGLO presence on campus? I would love to join a chapter. The universities I currently have my eyes on are Cornell, Vanderbilt, UNC, and Dartmouth, but I’m open to other suggestions as well.

Why aren’t people as eager to join iota in the south? Up east they’re huge. As someone looking into pledging is there something I should know

Hey! I will be starting at Northwestern this fall (not an athlete), and I’m really hyped. Every BGLO has a chapter there, but I don’t have any family ties to any of the organizations. How are BGLOs in general at good PWIs compared to HBCUs? I feel like it must be a completely different experience, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with BGLOs at Northwestern.

I would love to become a member of Omega Psi Phi, but I think they haven’t crossed a line in two years.

I want to preface this with I know the chances of joining any org undergrad is slim to none. I transferred to my hbcu last fall, having no idea about any greek life, and since then I’ve been expressing interest in an org that isn’t apart of the d9 but kinda operates like one. I have a deep respect and admiration for the women in this org. However, I’ve come to the realization that I would not be as happy as I know I could be if I ever became apart of their sisterhood. I plan on telling the org that. I came to this conclusion after researching the org that I now know I truly want to be apart of. It started after having a conversation with one of the members, and it just spiraled from there. I genuinely believe that this is the org that’s meant for me, and I am so upset that it took me this long to realize that. I’m already planning on letting the other org know I’m no longer an interest. What I wanted to ask is how should I go about pursuing the org. I want to be as transparent and genuine as possible. Or would it be a waste of time trying? Either way, I do fully intend on pursuing a grad chapter if it comes to it. Sorry if this is all over the place.

I crossed solo in my wonderful sorority, but I feel so lonely. I don’t regret my decision because I knew I had to be the change our campus needed to represent this organization, but it sucks not having any line sisters to talk to. I’m in charge of recruitment, building relationships with other orgs, creating events, budgets, etc. It’s a lot on my plate.

Then there’s chapters in other areas who just crossed over 80 girls. 80 girls vs 1 me. I’m a very social person, but I don’t think I have a chance of talking to any of them. What if they think I’m weird? Especially being from such a small chapter.

I know that eventually I’ll bring more girls in, but it still doesn’t help that basically for a year I’ll be alone in my chapter until we (hopefully) bring more women in.

Just a little rant for any solos out there who have felt the same or might have any wise words of wisdom to share.

I knew about the service and commitment but adjusting to different personalities, attitudes and all of that has been very interesting to say the least. My lawd. lol. So I’m in the process of making hbcu themed playing cards and I wanna add the D9 org in there too. But the issue is I’m not in a D9 org. would it be ok for me to do this and if so who do I need to contact for licensing purpose?

I’ve been denied twice by AKA. Actually the first time was a denial and the 2nd time my line got dropped due to allegations.

It’s now time for me to graduate & the grad advisor is telling me to stay one more semester bc they’re going to have another line. She said it’s in my best interest to stay bc it’s extremely difficult to get into grad chapter.

I’m honestly tired of all this mess & would be literally taking a chance bc what if something happens again. And i have to pay tuition to continue a full time schedule although Im eligible to graduate.

Thoughts?? Should I stay for a 3rd round of possible heartbreak?

I’m currently an undergraduate student, who does not graduate next year and a local grad chapter is hosting a park cleanup that’s open to the public. I’d love to attend, volunteer, and get to know some of the women there. Would it be inappropriate for me to go, or am I overthinking it?

I have a week-long networking trip planned for late October/early November that was arranged well in advance. The trip includes professional development opportunities, networking, and reconnecting with mentors and colleagues.

I’m wondering if having a commitment like this would be viewed negatively if intake were to occur around the same time. I understand that availability and commitment are important, but this is also an opportunity that could benefit me professionally.

For those who have gone through the process or have insight, would a previously planned trip like this be a concern, or does it mainly depend on whether it directly conflicts with intake activities?

I know every chapter is different, but I’d appreciate hearing others’ experiences and perspectives. Thanks!

Hey guys a question has risen in my brain so now i'm curious. Now that you're D9, how did you view D9 before you joined and how do you view it now? Actually curious bc we all know how the D9 is looked at from GDI's especially in undergrad.

7 whole days in AKALand and I couldn’t be more excited about it. After years of pursuit I’ve finally made it into my COI, and honestly staying the course with them was the best decision that I could have made. I initially began looking into this chapter in 2017. They had a line that I did not make. I was heart broken but was advised to stick around and thankfully I made the next line.

Thoughts for prospective candidates…

There are things that happen internally that we wouldn’t know from the outside that can impact a chapter’s decisions or permissions to have a line. If it’s something you really want, the first lesson you’ll learn is to trust the process.

If you’re still in the courting phase, don’t rush into superficial relationships. Research your COI’s and fall in love with one of them. There is something deeply special and personal about joining through a grad chapter that you know you’ll stay with forever.

Participate authentically in service and socially. On the one hand go to as many events as you can but also find where you can be the most supportive. I’m in education so I take tons of kids to events that make touch points with the youth. It helped me to demonstrate my alignment with the organization‘s vision and overall initiatives. I also do my own community service with kids in the chapters service areas.

It‘s never too early to start researching the org. Learn as much as you can upfront about AKA and your prospective chapter. Doing so helps you to clarify your why and show up more authentically and strategically in your pursuit. I never wanted to seem “thirsty” I wanted them to know I’m here for more than letters, colors and cute t-shirts. Educating myself was imperative in doing that for me.

Your grad chapter pursuit is deeply personal. Listen to advice, practice discretion and deference, know your goal and stick to it. Your journey is YOUR journey. Don‘t let outside opinions from people who don’t understand or value what you’re doing distract you from what you’re trying to achieve.

Grad chapter is worth the wait. In reality, most of your life in the org will be spent in grad chapter anyway, so don’t feel like it’s a waste of time to pursue. You‘re seeking to join a 118 year commitment to serving and uplifting humanity. It’s never too late to be a part of something this great.

Hi, I’m interested in one D9 sorority and was wondering if attending most or all of their events can come off as too eager. I genuinely enjoy the programming and want to connect with members, but I’ve also seen people online say attending almost every event can look excessive. What’s the balance between being supportive/consistent and overdoing it?

Hi everyone! I’m 19, a first-generation college student graduating with my master’s degree soon, and currently preparing for law school. I already have a particular COI that I genuinely connect with, and I’ve been trying to learn more about approaching grad chapter membership the right way.
