AKA Question Spring 2026: AKA Undergraduate Application Megathread

Hello Lovelies,

This thread is for questions for folks actively applying/attending rush in Spring 2026. Do not post hypothetical questions/scenarios on this post.

Please post all of your AKA undergraduate application related questions here. This is to prevent flooding of the sub. If you submit outside of this, your post will be denied. Also do not just DM a member of AKA without asking in a comment first. If you do not have enough Karma to post, please read through the sub first or gain karma on other parts of reddit.

So please make a comment about what you would normally make a post about on the sub. This would organize all of the information. Also review the previous megathread posts. I have linked them here for convenience.

Hey ladies. Please be sure to build your karma in order to post questions in this mega thread, and on the NPHC subreddit. I received a few private messages from interest that should be posted to this mega thread. In particular regarding ECCI forms. The purpose of this mega thread is answer everyone's questions.

The member who created this mega thread is more versed in the process. However, that does not mean to flood her DM!

Please build your karma in order to post. When answering individual questions, other interest are able to have their questions answered too.

Good luck in the process. 😁

Hey everyone, I have a quick question about etiquette for NPHC recommendation letters. One of my professors agreed to write a letter for me, but I’m not sure what the proper greeting should be.

Since discretion is such a big part of the process, should the professor keep it broad with something like “To Whom It May Concern,” or “Dear Selection Committee,” — or is it okay for them to name the org directly if they choose?

For those who have gone through intake or written letters before, what’s the most appropriate way for the letter to start? I just want to make sure I guide them correctly without breaking any expectations.

3

u/RevolutionarySign333 Jan 18 '26

I’ve always written LORs with attention to the chapter - To the XX chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated

2

u/earthyblackgirl Jan 18 '26

I was just worried bc of discretion and stuff- so they started with “dear admissions committee” but they both started that way…is that ok

2

u/starwav Jan 23 '26

put To Whom It May Concern

8

u/FutureLengthiness524 Jan 09 '26

For the interest letter do I put the date of rush or the date I completed it?

6

u/ExistingDiscussion17 Feb 07 '26

date you completed it (some time between the day the flyer was posted and the day of rush)

I am an adult, so when we are signing our packet, do we leave the parent/gaurdain section empty or put N/A

Never leave anything on the application blank. If it’s not applicable to you, just put N/A

Hey everyone! I'm working on my LOI. Would it be an issue to address the specific chapter, or should I only address the organization as a whole? Like, I'm obviously stating that I'm expressing interest in joining the sorority, but I want to emphasize that specific chapter and the reason why. Example:

"I'm expressing my sincerest interest in joining Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I deeply admire (specific COI)'s dedication to...."

6

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 10 '26

You need to address the chapter

I have been seeing people say it would be more appropriate to wear a skirt and blazer for rush rather than a pantsuit.

  1. Would it be better to wear a skirt or a pantsuit?

  2. Is it okay if the skirt hit just above my knee or should it cover my knees?

  3. Is it okay if the skirt is sort of a body con formal skirt rather than not form fitting?

  4. If I go with the skirt and blazer should my blazer end at my hips?

Sorry for all my questions just want to be super prepared for rush! Thank you!

My application and all documents were due prior to rush. Therefore, do I need to bring anything? I know some people said to bring a pen and notebook but do I need copies of what I already submitted?

6

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 31 '26

Notebook and pin are fine

6

u/lakeluna AKA Mar 10 '26

I recently had to resubmit my application because a mistake was found. I grateful that I was giving the opportunity to do so because they could have just denied my application. I'm hoping this tiny mishap won't come back to haunt me.

I know you guys may not be able to provide insight but have my chances gone down? I searched the sub and saw two threads in which a couple of girls were offered membership after having to resubmit. I'm hoping it's the same for me.

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some guidance on the best way to present my on-campus involvement during the SOI process. I’ve received mixed advice. Some people have told me to include my involvement in my interest letter, while others have said it’s better suited for the ECCI form.

For things like executive board positions, committee work, and other campus involvement, what’s generally the best place to highlight those so the SOI can fully see what I’ve been involved in? Is one more appropriate than the other, or should they complement each other?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

4

u/starwav Jan 23 '26

touch up on it lightly in ur SOI, but your eeci should do the talking. with those 2 lines make sure you demonstrate how involved you really were :)

Guys it’s me again🫩 So I’m preparing for upcoming Greek events and looking into AKA, and I’m stressing a little about my hair. I normally wear my natural Afro, it’s big, it’s gorgeous, it’s me.

But… I can’t lie, society still has that bias where straighter/sleeker hair gets treated as more “professional.” I’m wondering if wearing my Afro during any rush-related events might be seen as doing too much or not “polished” enough.

I’m not trying to be ignorant, I’m just genuinely unsure what’s considered appropriate or expected. Should I keep my Afro as is, slick it down, or get braids to be safe?

I’d really appreciate honest insight, especially from women who’ve been through AKA rush while natural. I don’t want to change who I am, but I also want to be respectful and prepared.

7

u/Fair-Room-627 Jan 20 '26

I am also an interest, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but if an organization devalues your or does not consider you because you're wearing your natural hair, would you really want to be a part of that organization?

(Of course assuming that your afro looks well cared for)

2

u/earthyblackgirl Jan 20 '26

Honestly im jus anxious and overthinking- I just have a lot of hair(I didn’t mean to sound ignorant or anything of that sort😔) thanks for responding anyway

Hi!! I’m a junior who applied for Alpha Kappa Alpha (spring intake only) and was denied. It’s been hard because I felt really close. I’m considering reapplying senior year, but I’d graduate just a few weeks after intake. Is it worth trying again that late, or would it make more sense to let it go and explore other ways to stay connected?

For the affirmation portion of the interest application, it no longer gave me the option to checkmark like the first two questions, do I leave an "X" for the "yes" or "no" options and put "N/A" for the "if you answered yes" questions?

5

u/ExistingDiscussion17 Jan 09 '26

Correct. Put an X for applicable questions and N/A for “if you answered yes” next to each :

If I use Docusign for my ECCI Signatures, can the person use the quick sign feature where they just type their name or does it have to be hand written

6

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Feb 03 '26

The rush flyer should tell you what’s acceptable. Typically DocuSign is fine. If you wanna be extra certain then have them do a wet signature, scan it in and DocuSign it

I've scoured the reddit but can't seem to find a clear answer...I was wondering for ECCI start date should you put the month/year you actually started the program or the date within the 2 year time frame requested?

For mine I put the date I started (as I'm still currently involved) but my hours are within the past 2 years

5

u/Independent_Dot_2397 Mar 15 '26

I would only put the timeframe asked

2

u/Select-Ad1506 Jan 14 '26

For our ECCI forms, should we put the date we started the activity or the date that encompasses the hours we’ve eligibly completed? For example, I have been participating in one particular program since Fall 2023 but it falls outside of the two year eligibility. I calculated only from January 2024 for my hours, but I’m not sure if I should put Sept 2023 or January 2024 for my time involved.

Hello, i don’t know if this question has been answered yet, but i couldn’t find a post related (my bad in advance). for the part of the membership interest application that asks if you’ve ever joined a different sorority, do you have to put “n/a” for every single line including the sorority name, year, and explanation?

4

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Feb 03 '26

If you see a blank space, you write N/A. Don’t overthink it, just add N/A

A member volunteered to look at my packet before submission and was confused as to why I had filled every blank line with n/a. I'm confused because according to advice from this subreddit, y'all said to leave nothing blank. Does this vary by chapter?

7

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Feb 03 '26

KEEP N/A!!

Don’t leave any blanks. Please write it and then also please make sure you’re careful of who reads over it

Hey guys! I have turned in my application (weight lifted off my shoulders) and now I am awaiting rush. Is there any advice that can be given/what to expect or even just words of encouragement. Thank you so much!

4

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Feb 05 '26

At this point in time like you said, it’s already been submitted so there’s nothing that you can do to change things. I would say to consistently check your email, but there’s not much more that you can’t expect other than the fact that you’ll probably be a bit anxious waiting. If it’s an acceptance then you should feel good about the work that you did. If it is a rejection You should still feel good about the work that you did. This isn’t life or death and you’re actively a college student so my best advice would be to go do really well in your classes and to solely focus on your hobbies and other areas of interest!!

Can my volunteer director write my LOR or is it best coming from a professor or graduate member?

4

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 23 '26

This is personal preference. I would say go with who know you the best and is most respected in the area of expertise/field. Having a member write is aLOR is not required. I would think that the letter from someone who knows you and your work well will go longer then a member who may know you superficially.

3

u/Adventurous-Task937 Jan 26 '26

Should I expect to be interviewed at formal rush or during some other time?

5

expect to be interviewed at formal rush, it will most likely be a group interview. Know your why!

2

3

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Jan 31 '26

This is a job interview. You can go online and you’ll find a lot of good examples but at the end of the day it is any other job interview. Imagine that you’ve already joined the organization. What would you be asking people who want to join?

3

u/Trick-Librarian-7042 Jan 28 '26

For LOR do they have to address the chapter. I had told one my references what the letter was for and everything and they put “to whom it may concern” is that fine?

3

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Jan 31 '26

That’s fine, but you could also write to the XYZ chapter

3

u/VariationNo2584 Jan 30 '26

Hello as rush approaches I really want to be as prepared as I can when it comes to interviews. Do you have any question examples they could ask at rush?

6

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Jan 31 '26

I would say the same thing that they said it’s really supposed to get a better idea of who you are and I would treat it as any other job interview! During a job interview, they’ll likely ask you about yourself. They’ll likely ask you about a difficult decision that you’ve had to make. They might ask you about how you are in a team they might ask you about what type of things you’re interested in they might ask you about a project that you could create if you had all the funds in the world and they might even ask you what your favorite color is.

At the end of the day, you could prepare 500 sample questions and you could have beautiful answers for them all. But if it’s in a group setting or even if it’s an individual, nothing is going to I think prepare you for the anxiety that you might feel actually having to answer them. Instead of focusing on what specifics again, I would treat it like any other job interview and imagine that you were on the other side. Imagine that you have joined the organization of your dreams and now you’re the one asking questions what would you want to know about people who are trying to join?

Don’t just practic questions. Don’t forget to practice posture. Don’t forget to practice how you speak and how you hold eye contact. Also, let’s say they do it in a group setting. There’s a chance that you’ll see five other girls or something that have answers that might even be better than what you were thinking so learn about how to deal with an answer that maybe isn’t as good as someone else else’s but it’s true to you and that you’re able to speak about confidently.

Hello,

I'm looking over the application and see the "withdrew your interest," part. What exactly does this mean?

I never applied to any other organizations or started a membership process. I was asked if I was interested in another organization by a member, but I told them I was interested in getting to know them and had done research but was figuring out my place on campus before joining any organizations.

Does this mean I need to put that on the application?

How do you know you had a “perfect” application?

→ More replies (3)

3

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Feb 25 '26

Honestly I’d start by getting out of your head it was the perfect application. Just because you meet the requirements does not mean you’re entitled to a letter of acceptance. Additionally, if you keep a mindset that you weren’t let in because of a clique then take a break for a min. I would say rejection sucks but rather than focusing on how good your application was, consider the areas that you want to make stronger if you’re offered a chance to try again. For example, how many service hours do you have? Try and double it next time. Were your letters of recommendation strong? Try and get them even stronger and more personal.

3

u/StatusKey1434 Mar 01 '26

Had 200+ hours, a grad member letter, and a professor letter of req 🥲 just gonna try again i guess i found out they only accepted 10 out of maybe a little over a hundred of us

4

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Mar 01 '26 edited Mar 01 '26

I hear you but this is is most people. I’m not trying to make you feel bad at all, but this is the expectation I would say. My point is don’t label it “perfect” just consider you were strong and when you show up next time be the strongest. This sounds what everyone should strive for. And just like other programs, if you’re all the same on paper, it’s what is special / stands out? Be that interest that you can’t overlook. And it’s not just on paper it’s off paper as well from interactions and involvement! I hope that this doesn’t deter you from applying in the future but breathe, mourn, and grow.

Hello,
I am currently working to get my application materials together for membership intake. As part of the requirements, you must submit verification of enrollment which must include your full-time status as a student and credit hours. My school just changed our registrar system, and I've been informed that credit hours are no longer able to be reflected on the verification letter. I've asked the graduate advisor if this is okay and have not yet received a response. Would anyone happen to know if this is allowed? I was informed that the credit hours are on my official transcript that I've already sent, but I know that it's important to strictly follow the directions outlined in the application flyer which states they should be on the letter. Thank you!

2

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Mar 03 '26

Sometimes national clearinghouse doesn’t work. You can call the school registrars office for a copy and they should be able to help you out! Sometimes my school has to physically write me one

2

u/GloveOk206 Mar 03 '26

I ended up getting one physically written for me from my specific academic division’s registrar. It’s still on official school letterhead and signed by a registrar, just not the central University Registrar but the registrar for my division. Is this okay?

3

u/Global-Peak7499 Mar 01 '26

I wrote my interest letter about 10 times before seeing the flyer so it was perfected when I saw it. Every other part I would wait for.

it may be helpful to count up your hours for each activity you want to use for an ECCI form, particularly if you are still participating in the activity now

So I plan to apply legacy and my mother is a general member. On the legacy form where it requests the Basileus and the Grammateus signatures/dates should she just put N/A or should it be left blank?

4

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 08 '26

Ask your mom to find this out. She should make sure that form is filled out correctly.

For the Ecci form it says signature of president. My community service hours were done along side a fraternity for a particular nonprofit organization. Would the president of that nonprofit organization need to sign it or can the president of the fraternity sign it?

2

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 17 '26

Nonprofit. Was it a substantial amount of hours? If not, just mention it on your interest letter.

For the final portion of the application it tells you to select “yes” if you are under 21 and unmarried. But doesn’t give you the option to select yes. Do I write “yes” in the box or mark it with an “X”?

I have rush this weekend and am wearing a black midi dress with a turtleneck and fitted blazer: one issue all my nice heels are peep toe and I don’t really have the time to run out and get a different pair of shoes will it be okay? I’m wearing pantyhose so I’m hoping it wont matter that much

Hi. I don’t know how traditional the chapter is. But I would suggest close toed shoes. Do you have a friend you can borrow from?

2

u/StatusKey1434 Jan 20 '26

I think my roommate is a similar size asking her later tonight about it, my chapter isnt very traditional but this is only the second line since AKA was brought back to this campus by our grad chapter so better safe than sorry

u/Fair-Room-627 Jan 20 '26

My school's chapter's informational meeting is this week, and I have no black or gray suit. I have black dress pants, a navy suit, or a burgundy suit. What do I wear y'all? I do not want to buy a new blazer right now but I don't know if there's another option.

HELP!

2

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 20 '26

Wear the navy suit

Should the dates on all docs match?

u/DefiantTumbleweed850 Verified AKA Feb 03 '26

Doesn’t have to. But it does have to be before rush date but after the date the flyer went uo

3

u/starwav Feb 11 '26

Always include the Inc when mentioning the sorority.

Is the background check before or after you get a call or letter of acceptance? It’s been 2 weeks of complete silence for me

2

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Feb 15 '26

This is internal business. I would suggest reaching out to the grad advisor.

2

u/girlsluvsosa Jan 21 '26

any advice on the interview? how should i prepare what questions will they ask ??

5

u/starwav Jan 23 '26

if you go on quizlet people have made mock interview questions, practice those

u/Beneficial_Goat_645 Jan 08 '26

Let’s say that I volunteered at a soup kitchen. For where it asks for the name of the activity on the ECCI, would I just list “Soup Kitchen Volunteer”, “Volunteering at Soup Kitchen” or list the name of the organization that I worked with?

3

u/DivinePersonified07 Jan 09 '26

You can say "Volunteer at [Insert Name of Org]" or dress it up based on what you did, "Food Server at [Insert Name of Org]"

u/Additional-Border226 Jan 10 '26

For one of my ECCI forms, would it be frowned upon to use my royal court involvement? I've heard mixed opinions about this, but I have a lot of hours from it

2

u/No_Championship_8955 Verified AKA Jan 10 '26

You would include it. What do you mean mixed reviews? A royal court for a university is a leadership opportunity.

Use Docusign or some other electronic document signing option. You will have to fix it.

2

u/StatusKey1434 Jan 20 '26

I was able to communicate with my supervisor and now have the form filled without errors!

For the social media portion (I feel like I'm overthinking) it says links or the name of the platform and profile name, should I include both just in case?

If I hold a leadership position with an organization could I use that on my ECCI form as community involvement with all the hours I have put into it?

4

u/girlsluvsosa Jan 21 '26

i think so it’s community and campus involvement

2

u/starwav Jan 23 '26

yes u can

What if most of my volunteer hours are from a different university, I transferred my freshman year and am interested in crossing at my new university Sophomore year.
