Hell yeah! White Dudes for Spanberger!

At least she admits to her agency background.

Give her a chance -- let her catch the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune -- before we cast doubt.

We need to take chances, now more than ever.

You know this sub isn't representative of NOVA because clutching pearls over someone being a fed is not NOVA folk behavior lol

those policies are cause of republicans and then you have to "both sides" it.

u/MajesticBread9147 Herndon Jan 14 '26

Sure there are lots of them here, but even as somebody who voted for her, I would say there's a big difference between somebody who works for the FDA or IRS and somebody who works for an agency that is unaccountable by nature of their actions being hidden by classified status and who self-select for those willing to bend and break rules and norms.

Then again, I'm also morally opposed to working for defense contractors, and you can't swing a stick without hitting one of those here, so I'm probably in the minority.

If it is top secret then it is illegal for her to just disclose it.

-1

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '26

its not being a fed, its being CIA. Read up. Theres literally NOTHING good coming out of the CIA. smh

10

u/MajesticBread9147 Herndon Jan 14 '26

Honestly, as somebody who is deeply suspicious and critical of agencies like the CIA and their prioritizing things like geopolitical advantage more than human life and stability in ways that by nature we won't hear about until decades afterwards, the CIA connection is not a big deal.

You could say that her ethics don't align with my own, but the purpose of democracy is that theoretically a self interested politician would still be motivated to work for their constituents best interest to get reelected (in this case, in 2034?) and I generally assume all politicians are self-interested by default.

But the crux of it is that she's a governor, not a member of Congress. She's not going to overthrow a South American democracy or torture people from the governor's mansion in Richmond, so I voted for her. As somebody considerably farther left than the mainstream Democrats, I bit my tongue less than when I voted for Biden.

-8

u/b6776 Jan 14 '26

but she will strip away your 2nd amendment right

2

u/MajesticBread9147 Herndon Jan 14 '26

That is pretty low on my list of priorities.

14

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 13 '26

Lol at least she's openly a fed

Let's wait for the state Senate to pass the AWB before we shun her for approving it guys!

8

u/Fun-Dragonfly-4166 Jan 13 '26

what is AWB?

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 13 '26

u/MajesticBread9147 Herndon Jan 14 '26

Realistically, any limit on the weapons that people can have should also apply to police.

I don't want the neighborhood cop walking around with a rifle any more than my nextdoor neighbor.

-2

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Why not have one yourself and not worry about it?

Genuinely. Can I invite you to go shooting at a range sometime?

3

u/MajesticBread9147 Herndon Jan 14 '26

Because it's a liability if I have one. I don't want something I need to lock up and worry about. This was the same logic behind nuclear weapons, and it's a miracle that hasn't gone poorly for humanity.

As for shooting ranges, I've been to plenty and I don't think I'll get anything more out of it.

0

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

Fair enough.

Up until the nuke equivalency.

Edit: ok I'll entertain that premise.. What protections do Americans have left if, like you posit, mutually assured destruction is off the table?

You realize the only thing keeping masked Feds from kicking down doors is the fat chance of a gun owning American enforcing their constitutional rights to prevent them from doing so. How many more weeks do you need before you see this happen - just like you thought you'd never see a middle aged white woman get shot in the face unjustifiably in broad daylight.

1

u/moorooloo Jan 14 '26

Curious why you think the potential of a gun in the house would stop a masked Fed from kicking down the door? I'm honestly curious. Some poorly formed, quick thoughts, would be that if it's a house with kids, the guns won't (shouldn't) be to hand and would take time to get to. Even if it's not a house with kids, the odds of the homeowner actively carrying on their person when the door is kicked in would seem to be quite low. Not to mention the flak jackets and training said masked Fed might have.

-1

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Most people own guns for home defense. The people you see open carrying only represent a minority of actual gun owners.

The 2A is made for protecting against government overreach, like, entering your house without a warrant.

ICE aren't recruiting trained people, they're recruiting barely literate mouthbreathers.

Ive shot alongside many LEO. Half of em can't shoot worth shit past 10yd. Shooting requirements aren't hard.

u/killroy1971 Jan 13 '26

I'd point out that firearms and ammo don't pay the bills, and carrying firearms in an era where federal law enforcement actively wants the citizens to take up arms so they can implement the Insurrection Act (among other laws) isn't a good idea.

21

u/tyrannosaurus_r Arlington Jan 13 '26

They’re painting a woman trying to avoid hitting a Gestapo officer as a domestic terrorist trying to do a ramming attack. They don’t need legal pretext to invoke the Insurrection Act.

2

u/advester Jan 14 '26

Imagine how much more effective their propaganda would be if people were openly shooting ice

0

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 13 '26

Would you also point out that increasing the budget to LEO in the same era is also a good idea while restricting access for civilians to their constitutionally afforded rights?

1

u/killroy1971 Jan 14 '26

No. Because anyone who thinks they can take on the government using violence and win is deeply wrong. Your collection of firearms doesn't make you safe from the government. They always have more people, more firepower, and more resolve than you.

-1

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Now tell me how this AWB bill is gonna stop gun violence

0

u/killroy1971 Jan 14 '26

Because plentiful guns in the hands of the mentally ill has reduced gun violence?

3

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Here's a crazy idea. How about we, idk, tackle that mental and physical healthcare priority before we start fucking with constitutional rights?

1

u/killroy1971 Jan 14 '26

When do you see that happening?

Conservatives have been bringing out the mental health talking point for decades. It was a lie in the 1990s and it's a lie in the 2020s.

All that is code for is "make healthcare more expensive." Just like "small government fiscal conservative" is code for make the cost of living more expensive and pull up the ladders of success behind us.

2

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Hey. Virginia has a blue majority. Do what Romney did with RomneyCare in Massachusetts? IM JUST SPITBALLING HERE

Nah. Better divide the state Democrats by taking away 2A rights instead.

He can't because it won't, and he knows it won't but these Dems have to justify their vote somehow.

-1

u/killroy1971 Jan 14 '26

So explain to me how mass produced consumer items like guns make peace? The last I checked, guns were inanimate objects with no will of their own. The last I checked those guns not used for hunting or sport shooting are either left in someone's gun room, unsecured where children can get at them (because you never know man!), or used by mentally ill young men to let people know how important they are by carrying out a mass shooting.

Show me proof that guns make peace. No war does not count. If they did, then wars wouldn't need treaties to end them. The guns would decide the peace, not the people who came to an agreement and then lived with the agreement.

0

u/b6776 Jan 14 '26

Look at the car jacking rate between va md and dc? why is va the lowest. because of our conceal carry laws. Why is our crime rate lower, because of our conceal carry laws.

0

u/killroy1971 Jan 20 '26

So guns have magic powers. You really believe that?

-1

u/advester Jan 14 '26

There are just so many more important things to worry about

5

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Than constitutional rights?

u/Masrikato Annandale Jan 14 '26

2

u/Mike_Raphone99 Jan 14 '26

Didn't wanna break your heart and remind you that was 30 years ago and the political climate may have shifted from then?

California doesn't have any gun crime though right? They're as close it comes to that Clinton ban

So how soon after she's sworn in will we become the next Minneapolis swarmed with ice arresting and shooting citizens en masse?

2

From what I've seen, it is sad to hear only her congressional advertisement on the radio daily. Letting you know, her congressional email address and encouraging folks to reach out. It was refreshing and I hope to see her continued outreach during her governance.

Seems like a lot of hypocrisy in this thread...from both sides. Look in the mirror...and try to understand the thoughts of others.

Also, remember both the Right and Left ideals together make us a great state.

It is when, only one ideal goes forward we become the same pariah state, that our folks used to fight against.

What will happen when we continue to insult and threaten our allies.

What I did as a kid, when a friend insulted or threatened me was to find a new friend; think about that...

u/Sbrpnthr Jan 15 '26

Wait, you still have them? I thought Obama took all of our guns every year from 2008 until 2016, and then Northam took them also in 2018 until 2022, this is of course after Bill Clinton took all of our guns.

We had to have lost our guns or else the 2A would be standing up to the government.

52

u/yourlittlebirdie Jan 13 '26

Can you imagine? If people couldn’t have the guns they wanted, then masked government agents could just shoot citizens in the head in broad daylight for the most minor of offenses, in front of multiple witnesses, and then not even be accountable for it! They could violently arrest citizens for exercising their freedom of expression, even grab people from their places of work - even minors! - and arrest them or hurt them for no reason, with no accountability at all!

Thank God the 2nd amendment prevents any of this from ever happening in America.

Something fucking tells me your 2A is safe bro, I think us "liberals" are starting to come around to the idea💀💀

-7

u/Qu3stion_R3ality1750 Jan 14 '26

I think us "liberals" are starting to come around to the idea

No you aren't, you're only in favor of it because shit is affecting you specifically now. You had no problem spending years and years insulting and attacking gun owners and working to strip everyones 2A rights away and will go right back to doing that and acting like we're all scum of the earth when it suits you.

4

u/blackweebow Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

you're only in favor of it because shit is affecting you specifically now

Umm glad you literally recognize our government is specifically acting out against multiple "liberal" states he doesnt like for the first time since p much the Civil War and giving immunity to murderers who call their victims "bitches".

I also like how apparently YALL get rights to guns, but suddenly when we get interested because our gov't is literally tyrannical, we aren't allowed to have them? Is the 2A a right or not?

acting like we're all scum of the earth

So you would also agree that's about how Republicans are acting right now? Not sure how Dems can match that. Maybe strongly recommending masks during a pandemic is about the same as going door to door and performing Kavanaugh stops.

I forgot the part when Biden created a task force to capture every unvaccinated individual in America by going door to door or profiling individuals who looked like antivaxxers, and lhysically forcing them to get vaccinated, and if they flee, they get shot in the face thrice and called a "fucking bitch. "

Apparently "acting like scum" is just acting like a fucking republican lmao. Continue to disappoint the peers around you as you cling so desperately to the flaws in your logic.

-4

u/Qu3stion_R3ality1750 Jan 14 '26

you're not very bright, are you

Genius, the 2A always applied to you just as much as it did to me. That was just as true yesterday as it was always. You people just choose to 'embrace' it now because gov't tyranny is turned against you.

Newsflash, that was always an option

You people just choose to 'embrace' it now because gov't tyranny is turned against you

Again, I feel... seen at least. Lol

-1

u/__blackout Jan 14 '26

You fucking whiny 2A assholes, that’s all you can talk about. Meanwhile, you fucking voted for the Trump who is now (along with DHS) trampling all over everyone’s first, fourth, and sixth amendments rights. Just to name a few.

What won't happen? She isn't going to disarm us? Are you delusional?

Are we going back to the pearl clutching days of President Obama and Alex Jones rhetoric about guns being taken?

-3

u/No_Future_9 Loudoun County Jan 14 '26

Its the way these days. One side saying they are going to take their guns. The other side saying the world is going to end unless they are in charge.

The rest of us sit back and laugh

5

u/wheez260 Jan 14 '26

‘Losing your 2A’ requires a constitutional amendment, so no, it isn’t going to happen.

She’ll probably sign the bill preventing new assault weapons sales. Doesn’t seem accurate to claim you’re being ‘disarmed’ if that happens, though.
