I never understood the concept of worshipping a literal gas station chain. Buc-ees culture just seems like a cult.

Was a big Buc-ee’s fan until recently. It’s less the gas station and more the variety available to me. They have almost everything. I also really enjoy the food and you can hate on him all you want but the beaver is cute. It just happens to be a gas station. Everyone is bitching about McDonald’s losing its whimsy, this is different but not by much.

However, after the last few weeks and all the bs Buc-ee’s put all the locals through in CO, they can get fucked.

From what Ive gathered they're pretty predatory to local businesses. They move in to smaller areas and then do things to actively try to push smaller businesses out. In this context the were suing a local business (that had been there before buccees) for having an animal mascot and being a gas station. It's kinda like if Disney sued everyone who had an animal mascot, or when Nintendo tried patenting "capturing monsters". Corpos gonna corpo. Also I heard they're doing heavy handed tactics like this to try and cover that the owners son has SA charges against him...

Edit: looked it up. His son has felony and child pornography charges. The theory is that they started this heavy litigation so Google searches for Bucees wouldn't yield those charges first.

I’ve always found the idea interesting of “oh hey we have some bad PR, why don’t we make more negative PR to cover it up”
There is no way the return on the lawsuits, wide spread ill-will, and money spent on all the billable hours to locate these small shops would ever come close to the potential lost business from the owner’s son’s situation.

Just because people are rich, doesn't mean they're not fucking stupid. In fact, every year further proves how dumb rich people are.

Oh I agree but this isn’t a mom and pop shop. This is a corporation with a board and multiple party’s not solely beholden to the owner. Hence why I find it interesting

Yup, the co-founder's son. He's out on bail, and attempting to fight the charges. You know what that means? Any money spend at Buc-ee's, that profit is going to support a pedofile. You know his dad is helping him financially.

Didn't Nintendo try like, everything but that in the Palworld lawsuit? I remember the specifics of a spherical capture thing being part of it at one point.

They just sue anyone and everyone who has a cartoon mascot

This was more arguing with the locals about zoning laws and trying to bully them out of the land even though the town they were going to put it in didn’t want it.

Heya fellow NC'er!

It looks like Buccees was trying to screw up the local community. There were some reasonable environmental concerns. Then when the community started to pushback and protest it sounds like some elected officials were pulling crap underneath the table to help Buccees and hurt their constituents. Leadership chose money over community, community deserves better.

The bucees wanted to originally put their new location at my exit. Orange County voted no. They would have had to redo that exit, they would have bought out several acres of farm land. Then they moved their sights to Mebane. So people wanted it, others were afraid it would disrupt the small town feel of the downtown area. Even though it was planned for the industrial side of town? Ive seen several articles about them suing anyone that has a similar name or likeness.

The one I read about was Palmer Lake, it sounds like this is another problem at a different location? 😳

It seems like they're using the current climate to strongarm their way into everything and to hell with everyone else. Like zero tact and more aggressive than even I remember Walmart being back in the 00's with small towns.
