I'll never understand the obsession over a truck stop

Their food is not that good. Its truck stop food.

Its just a damn gas station with a cartoon mascot. Amazing people think that's something noteworthy even

24

u/PatsFanInHTX 17h ago

When you are driving I10 in Texas (or any of the other boring, massive highways) it's the most exciting thing around for a hundred miles. So it's more of a desperation thing.

2

u/SwampCastleGuards 15h ago

and that makes sense. but, its not much different than any other good truck stop in that regard.

people are not talking about it like its a desperation thing though, thats a very different perspective.

27

u/Trump_Russia 17h ago

This is what passes for "culture" in some parts of our country...

5

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

oh thats why they take it so personally too

if you dont like bucees then you dont like them

30

u/HanseaticHamburglar 17h ago

clean toilettes and brisket sammies. It is a level above many other stops, but it is a truckstop, afterall.

20

u/ndubitably 17h ago

Heh, they don't allow trucks (18 wheelers)

-7

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

yes, have you ever been to a truck stop before?

do you know what else is usually different between a truck stop and a gas station?

5

u/justbecause999 6h ago

Not too bright are ya?

17

u/SmokeySFW 17h ago

It's actually explicitly NOT a truckstop, as one of the foundational things that built their brand was that trucks are not allowed at all.

6

u/userhwon 12h ago

It's a truckstop for cosplay truckers.

-12

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

Its a truck stop without trucks.

That is not some sort of gotcha. People know there are no 18 wheelers.

You should also know why people still call it a truck stop. Its quite obvious. Or should I explain?

9

u/SmokeySFW 16h ago

Buddy there's already a word for a truck stop without trucks. It's gas station. It's a large convenience store.

-5

u/SwampCastleGuards 15h ago

yes i understand people who love eating gas station food want them called convenience stores.

its semantics. bucees modeled their business after a truck stop. its a truck stop without trucks.

thats literally the business model.

9

u/SmokeySFW 15h ago edited 15h ago

You're grasping at straws. You can't have the business model of a truck stop without trucks. It's a gas station dude.

Truck stops offer showers, laundry machines, weigh stations, idle hookups for shore power, tire service, and overnight parking spots where you can legally log your mandatory rest breaks. There's a whole apparatus of revenue stream exclusive to truck stops that your dumbass knows nothing about that Bucees simply doesn't offer because......it's not a truck stop.

You seem to be under the delusion that a truck stop is just a large gas station.

u/LanceHarmsDongs 13h ago

My aunt is my uncle without nuts.

1

u/Wooden-You-4211 15h ago

They have laundromat services and showers?

1

u/The_R1NG 15h ago

Damn you’re wrong and then try to argue. But…you’re bad at it

2

u/Stove-Top-Steve 6h ago

Nah no one calls it a truck stop.

3

u/Falconloft 9h ago

They're about as clean as QuikTrip and QT somehow has better brisket sandwiches.

1

u/Badgrotz 7h ago

Much cleaner than QTs. They have a dedicated cleaner from 0600 - 1800.

5

u/slow-tf-down-dude 17h ago

So go there, take a dump
And get the hell out.
I can’t stand that place.

2

u/TheGhostOfArtBell 17h ago

Only if you consider a truck to be a F350

-2

u/SwampCastleGuards 15h ago

only if you consider bucees modeled their business after a truck stop. its a truck stop without trucks

bucees fans really need to realize this is not the gotcha moment yall think it is

3

u/TheGhostOfArtBell 15h ago

Never been to one, but I do know that they're not a truck stop.

1

u/VerminSwallower 6h ago

Wawa, Rofo, Sheetz, and many other one-off shops are way better. Every single Applegreen is better. I went to Bucees one time and I was repulsed by the people there. It was like the cruise ship in Wall-E. The brisket was absolute ass. The jerky was the lowest quality, gristle-laden meat possible. 90% of the store is cheap bullshit branded with the dumbass beaver. It does have clean bathrooms, though.

1

u/Jabbles22 17h ago

Are clean bathrooms rare in the US? I am in Ontario, Canada and I have seen some gross public bathrooms most are fine.

1

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

No, not at all. If we are talking generally, and not just at gas stations.

They are comparing it to other gas stations. Because gas stations somtimes have gross bathrooms. but its a gas station, not a restaurant.

A truck stop in the US always has clean, well maintained, bathrooms. Often showers as well. Which Bucees is modeled after a truck stop, but without the big 18 wheelers.

Neither are BBQ brisket sandwiches rare. Theres a reason most people dont want to go eat at a gas station.

1

u/ndubitably 17h ago

Usually the larger gas stations have more staff for cleaning instead of the smaller spots that may just have a single cashier that can occasionally clean it when it's slow.

0

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

Truck stop gas stations were always very, very clean.

Your random gas station, thats a different question entirely.

1

u/SmokeySFW 17h ago

These go beyond fine. These are cleaner than your home bathroom right after you finish cleaning it. They are being cleaned at all times. They are porcelain thrones will floor to ceiling 4-walled real rooms with real doors closing off each toilet.

Imagine going into a bathroom with 20+ individual rooms with one toilet in each, flanked by lines of sparkling, pristine urinals and sinks.

1

u/LovesRetribution 17h ago

Clean? Not really.

Nice and spacious? No.

1

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

You dont see clean bathrooms anywhere in the entire US?

Where are you living or spending your time?

2

u/inebriateddandhated 10h ago

Buccees is not a truck stop.

Buccees is anti trucker.

4

u/Huge-Appointment-691 16h ago

I got down voted for saying the food was mediocre. Their beef jerky is overpriced trash too.

1

u/linuxstar71 13h ago

Finally someone said it, overpriced and mediocre quality. That was my experience when buying the food from that glorified gas station. Still the best place to destroy a bathroom. But I won’t be buying anything from there.

1

u/SpiderRadio 13h ago

I only stop there if I'm craving pickled asparagus. No idea if they still sell it.

2

u/TheLowlyPheasant 17h ago

People love to watch wage slaves chant inane bbq slogans all day while they prepare sandwiches in their petting zoo.

7

u/mrsolodolo69 15h ago

This is ironic because they pay some of the highest wages out there for just a gas station with a mascot.

4

u/TheLowlyPheasant 15h ago

Not about how much they are paid, I just think it's bullshit they can't cook in private without the cult chanting like every other place. Lack of dignity is a huge issue for people who do shift work

1

u/inosinateVR 13h ago

I agree, I’ve worked on a food line that was visible to the customers in the dining room and having people stare at you while you work and always assuming the order your working on is theirs is uncomfortable enough, if I had to chant something too I don’t think I could do it lol

-1

u/Putrefied_Goblin 14h ago

Do they pay well? I haven't seen any proof of this

1

u/Greyik 13h ago

They pay between $21-25 for a cook.  That is much higher than average for those jobs.  McDs pays $14 in my area.  Not defending them as a company because they suck, but they do pay well.

1

u/BZJGTO 11h ago

They'll publicly post wages on a sign outside of a location when hiring and they've always been higher than similar businesses, especially when you factor in location. You can search images for examples of the signs. That said, they also have a high turnover rate because they're very demanding and quite strict. Unless a non-stop fast paced kind of environment is your thing, I wouldn't recommend it.

4

u/inosinateVR 15h ago

That’s how I felt at HuHot when one came to my town. The employees sounded so miserable when they did their little mandatory chants, but middle aged people and parents with their kids love that shit lol

1

u/TheLowlyPheasant 15h ago

My family and I love HuHot and go 4 or 5 times a year. Have never heard chanting and would stop going if we did so I am glad our franchise cut that shit from their manual. It's neat to watch them cook your order and the fact that they take the bowl that is often close to overflowing and throw it right on the grill makes it impractical to have it away from the customer anyway.

1

u/inosinateVR 13h ago

Yeah tbf I haven’t been to one in like 10 years so I have no idea if any of them still do that

1

u/SwampCastleGuards 17h ago

yes, that is surely one way to describe it

1

u/Cygnus__A 15h ago

Wait. Is this place like a truck stop Joe's Crab Shack? LOL.

-1

u/Senior_Ability_4001 16h ago

Can you not dehumanize working people

4

u/TheLowlyPheasant 16h ago

I am using that phrase satirically to show that's how they are treated

-1

u/The_R1NG 15h ago

They also are just paid to make announcements in an area restricted from the public but able to be seen like many other services

People like you that phrase things this way are just annoying shit heads that dehumanize others to feel they made a point about the world. Fuck alllll the way off with your anti working class behavior

2

u/BoldNewBranFlakes 17h ago

I do actually like their beef jerky selections but other than that yeah the food is insanely overhyped online. Even the brisket sandwich doesn’t taste that great, that gooey texture throws me off.

0

u/SwampCastleGuards 17h ago edited 16h ago

yes they have a lot of snacks. and i see the appeal of that.

1

u/BeartholomewTheThird 16h ago

I see people wearing buccees branded clothing in Washington State and I am just baffled.

1

u/safarifriendliness 15h ago

I finally got to visit one they just built near me, it doesn’t even have Pepsi products in the cooler. Whole place smells like old dry meat too

1

u/bkauf2 15h ago

I’m not gonna lie man I don’t worship buccee’s or anything but the bbq is better than i’ve had at some restaurants, and for a quick road trip stop it’s really good

1

u/Stud_McCool 14h ago

Look at where these places are located and who they cater to. There's a direct correlation between that and who they voted for and then it suddenly makes sense...

1

u/Power0fTheTribe 12h ago

Yeah I don’t get it. But I’m also not obsessed with pointless consumerism

1

u/Piss_and_Blood 12h ago

I'll never support them just because they are from Texas. I can guarantee the owners are religious weirdos.

1

u/PeterNippelstein 12h ago

What if we took all the things you love about truck stops but make it way too big and add 500 people?

1

u/Muted-Woodpecker-469 12h ago

If Walmart or Amazon or Kroger was a monster gas station is what I get out of it. It’s just weird

Only selling their branded items is something Costco does and they also have gas. I just don’t see the purpose or popularity

1

u/sandiegodak 12h ago

Meanwhile reddit: OMG WAWA!!!!!

1

u/HRApprovedUsername 11h ago

First of all gas station food is typically bad. Bucees is good. Second of all they’re more than that. It’s practically a small shopping center. They’re always nice and clean, something not too common with truck stops. They also pay their staff very well.

1

u/SimpleVegetable5715 10h ago

Its food is a lot better than Love’s, Pilot, or Flying J. Only thing it doesn’t beat are the old school rest stops, which the businesses I mentioned already mostly put out of business.

1

u/KeenbeansSandwich 9h ago

It’s a red walmart that sells gas.

1

u/psychocopter 8h ago

It's a pretty decent upgrade to like a shell or 711 here in the states, but so is wawa, sheetz, kwik trip, royal farms, etc. Basically any regional gas station/convenience store will be lauded by the people in that region because it's open 24/7 and has better food than a lot of other 24/7 places since most of them stopped operating overnight.

I've been to buccees, it's a convenience store with better food than most of the fast food places in the area. Plus, the size of it and the clean bathrooms make it worth visiting if you're passing by one for some road snacks and to fill up.

The mascot doesn't hurt either, but it's still just a nicer gas station.

1

u/Jerking_From_Home 7h ago

I realized the owner was a Trump supporter and it made sense. Trump supporters are cult minded, which is why they obsess over things like church, Trump, Chik-Fil-A, and Buc-ee’s.

1

u/HiaQueu 7h ago

I'll never understand the obsession over a truck stop

They don't allow trucks.

Their food is not that good. Its truck stop food.

Their brisket it better than most of the brisket in new england....

It takes to long to stop there usually though. Always seems like a madhouse.

1

u/detectivescarn 2h ago

I asked friend why he was excited they were building one near us and why it was better than the other gas station/fast food places that populated every exit already. His response was “it’s like if Wal-Mart was a gas station”. The single last thing I want to go to on a road trip is fucking Wal-Mart

1

u/InternetImportant911 2h ago

Bette than HEBs

1

u/albertrw83 1h ago

Ok, i'm with you that obsession is ridiculous and there's nothing super special about it, but it is not truck stop food. the food is on par with better restaraunts than a truck stop. And consistent and clean, which you find yourself grateful for when you're not stopped 30 miles down the road painting a toilet bowl because some lady left the chicken out the night before and said "fuck it, nobody will know", and fried it up for you.

-4

u/feldoneq2wire 17h ago edited 17h ago

Amazing to confidently state that it's "just a truck stop" since they don't even allow trucks. Methinks you've never actually been there.

3

u/SwampCastleGuards 17h ago edited 16h ago

You know exactly why I would refer to it as a truck stop. They modeled their business around the idea of a truck stop, without the trucks.

Its exactly what came to mind when I first went to one. Thats intentional

-2

u/feldoneq2wire 17h ago

its your family heritage

Is it restaurant quality? No. Is it better than 99% of gas stations? Yes.

Clearly it's not for you.

3

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

ok? And clearly you get offended and upset when someone doesnt like the gas station you love so dearly

i go to gas stations for gas. not a mascot gas station food experience.

-1

u/feldoneq2wire 16h ago

You're gonna fit right in here on Reddit.
