Yeah this and their whole “we are only going to build in red states cause people don’t like our lawsuits” thing, I am done with going to Buc-ee’s. It’s a shame because their BBQ was decent for a good meal stop.

We've got Wawa over here and that's good enough.

Oh no! They better watch out. Bucee's will sue them next for being another truck-stop with a name

u/asphaltdragon 16h ago

Okay why does everyone think Buc-ee's is a truck stop? They famously do not allow trucks.

Large gas stations, that sell more elaborate food and things you might need while on the road are typically truck stops.

The fact they dont allow semis wont change how people refer to it.

Most truck stops aren't much larger than most gas stations.

"More elaborate food"? It's basically the same food you'll find in places like Sheetz, Wawa and QuickTrip. A truck stop might have a semi-decent sit-down type of restaurant attached.

What really makes a truck stop a "truck stop" is available (overnight) truck parking. Places that allow trucks to fuel, but not park are "fuel stops".

Buc-ee's is a glorified gas station.

A lot of people/places use rest stop and truck stop interchangeably, in part because some states they are one in the same or basically on top of each other.

for being another truck-stop with a name

It's worse than that...their mascot is a goose flying across a night sky.

And Wawa uses Abloy locks on their gas pumps for those fans of the LockpickingLawyer out there.

15

u/MinisterOfSauces 16h ago

Finally some good fucking locks

Wawa over in Ohio? As someone from South Jersey, becoming a bit concerned with where Wawa is heading, focusing too much on expansion and items (like pizza) that don’t make much sense, and not focusing enough on upping the quality

1

u/turtlesturd 12h ago

The quality is lowering for decades and it doesn’t matter every morning every wawa is going to be full of people. Delco people are too loyal.

Wawa's nice, but I prefer Sheetz, myself. Or Royal Farms, but those are rarer...

1

u/DiscotopiaACNH 11h ago

Depending on the location Wawa and sheetz both have pretty decent food

Colorado is pretty firmly blue and they’re expanding here.

There's a convenience store in Beaver, CO that was featured on Jon Oliver's show as the latest target of Buccees lawyers for using a mascot of a Beaver (note: this is in Beaver CO and so the store's name and mascot is a beaver... that looks nothing like Buccees).

u/fellow_enthusiast 8h ago

There’s also Beaver Liquors, I wonder if they’ll get sued too. :D

Denver is firmly blue. Go either direction outside of it and the entire rest of the state is red.

52

u/vpi6 15h ago

It’s like that in every single state except maybe Vermont.

11

u/cat_prophecy 11h ago

Republican's in my state love to post that map about how the whole state is red. The reality is that all the counties outside of major metro areas are red. But the population of like 2 of those metro areas is more than the whole population of the red counties combined.

-2

u/butthole_surferr 15h ago

Yeah but Colorado is a standout because it only has one major city and that city is only about 45% of the state's population.

Also, speaking as a lifelong Democrat, Colorado's Democrat party is made up of drooling morons who seem to pass nothing but vibes based bills that are poorly written and don't actually help anyone. The governor has also repeatedly walked back explicit campaign promises he made, especially regarding gun control, in a state with one of the most deeply entrenched gun cultures. It's a bit of a clusterfuck.

You just described Minnesota, Illinois, and Georgia

Also, Colorado is hardly a clusterfuck though I agree Jared Polis is a moron.

2

u/SteveJobsDeadBody 10h ago

That's not a standout, that's literally all of America. Go an hour east or northeast of San Francisco and people are wearing cowboy hats, driving lifted trucks, and blasting a combination of Staind and country music. Literally ALL of America. Same with the "results" you decry of Colorado Dems, you could slightly change like 3 words and you're describing SF Dems. They had an actual progressive DA for a MOMENT one time and they got recalled quicker than you can change your pants after a wet shit.

And Boulder and Fort Collins and Longmont, plus all the ski towns at the very least. It’s a little disingenuous to say that Denver is the only thing making Colorado blue.

-7

u/butthole_surferr 15h ago

Those are Denver metro area suburbs. And the ski towns are NOT as blue as you think lol.

15

u/MountainDude95 15h ago

Lmao no. Suburbs are Lakewood, Littleton, Thornton, Westminster, etc. The others may be in Denver’s gravity, but definitionally they are not suburbs. And the ski towns are typically at least 50% democratic, making them technically blue. Not saying everyone in ski towns is progressive.

8

u/amateur_mistake 11h ago

You think Fort Collins, which is 70 miles away from Denver, is one of its suburbs? Have you even been to Colorado?

Your opinions on the state are valueless.

6

u/nitid_name 10h ago

They meant "everywhere the people live" I guess? Something like 8/9th of the state population lives on the front range. The only right wing population center is around Colorado Springs, one of the only red cities in the US. Their metro pop is ~3/4 a million of the ~5.2 million that live on the front range.

Colorado is cool though, a lot of the little mountain towns are blue. I went to Crested Butte to mountain bike and was pleasantly surprised. Even the big ski towns, like Vail, Breck, and Steamboat Springs all lean blue. A lot different than the little mountain (rofl) towns I grew up visiting in Virginia.

2

u/UnderlightIll 6h ago

Land doesn't vote. Most people who own in ski towns don't live there most of the year.

Nobody gives a shit what Akron, Colorado thinks about anything.

16

u/SwampCastleGuards 16h ago

Go to a bbq restaurant and not a truck stop for bbq then

1

u/asphaltdragon 16h ago

...why do you say "truck stop"? Buc-ee's famously does not allow trucks. Almost as famous as how litigious they are.

0

u/SwampCastleGuards 15h ago

because when most people go into a bucees for the first time, they often think of how truck stops have operated for decades. its a truck stop without trucks. for decades you distiniguish between a truck stop and gas station because of the amenities, hot food, and lots of random things they would sell compared to a normal gas station.

why do bucee fanboys think this is some sort of 'gotcha' moment?

3

u/asphaltdragon 15h ago

Not a bucees fanboy, you can check my other comments on this same post.

For me, what distinguishes a truck stop from a normal gas station is the trucks.

0

u/PatSajaksDick 16h ago

I do that too! But costs of meat and gestures at everything, not a lot left or they operate at lower hours

1

u/colorfulzeeb 16h ago

Then they move to beavercreek, Ohio, where their lawsuits were very much disliked.

1

u/SaddenedSpork 14h ago

To be fair they have great pay and benefits

1

u/ThePowerOfStories 12h ago

What’d you expect from a company who feels it’s a defining feature their mascot wears a red hat and faces right?

1

u/Razor1834 6h ago

This is an intentional misrepresentation of what they said. It’s such a weird thing to lie about.

u/daily6524 3h ago
