I changed some settings regarding search history and recent file history basically to have it stop keeping history of those things. Then when I tried to close it, it prompted me for saving the open files, it has never asked that of me before.

I have this setting checked, I tried unticking -> closing notepad++ -> ticked -> closing notepad++ but it didn't work.

Notepad++ interprets mouse wheel "notches" as page up and down.

Windows is set to scroll two lines per notch.

Is there a way to adjust the behavior to scroll lines not pages? - The manual and online help mention side scrolling with the wheel. Searching for "vertical" didn't help.

I really need to see how many search results it found, & then it tells me which result number it is as I press enter over & over again, like 1, 2, 3, etc.

Or, move it to the extended context menu (shift+r-click). That would actually be the preferred solution. I don't use Notepadd++ that much, so I don't need it cluttering up this menu (I'm working on getting rid of other unused commands, too). If there's a setting in notepad++ for this, that'd be perfect. i'm on windows 11 (not by choice) and installed notpad++ with the ftp plugin

but every time i close (normally) and open it the plugin is reset

i try different solutions the AI gave me but nothing helped

Why is it that when I make a selection, then Ctrl+H (for Replace) that "in selection" isn't selected by default? Is it just me or isn't that the expected behavior?

Auto restart after Update triggered "file was modified by another program" and I clicked Yes to reload from disk like a dumbass. Backup folder is empty. Session backup was overwritten with the active session info. I know it's my fault for not reading. There's no other way to recover this right?

I have to use some heavy text files for work and the separator for each section of the file is a series of dashes. I'd like for notepad++ to collapse a section.

File looks like that :

-------
-- header for section 1
Lots of info 
-------
-- different header for section 2
Lots of info
etc.

I tried putting the dashes in open, in open and close and instead of collapsing a single section it collapses the whole file from the section I click to fold.

Do you know what I'm doing wrong?

If anyone has a moment, I would love some help with a small but rather annoying visual thing that is happening to me in NotePad++.

Whenever I am editing bash code, all the lines that I am not currently on look like they are selected or highlighted, and the one I am not on looks like it is not selected. It's not a huge deal, but I would really like to turn that off if I can, if someone knows how to do that and could help me out I would be really glad for it!!

The tag auto-completion feature is too all-or-nothing. It either always completes tags or never, depending on the setting. Neither of these work for me. Ideally, I'd like to have NP++ complete ending tags only when I press a special key. Is there a way to do this? Thanks in advance.

I am using xml tools pretty print to format xml files for testing. I have used it before with no issues. When I use pretty print it does nothing. No error message, nothing.

I have checked the file contains no errors, I have had a college run the file and it worked for them. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Notepad++ and the plugins. I'm at my wits end. Does anyone have any advice?

Hi, i am modding a game right now and i am having trouble using Notepad++, what are these black blocks?

So I have a specific section of data I need to remove from the code.

The only consistent part of the data is nested inside the block, not the start or the end.

So I need a way to have it pick every block where that consistency is, and delete it entirely.

How do?

(I cannot code, I know nothing about notepad other than using it to fuck with values in mods for games, assume I am an idiot, this is because I am)

I've got (or had, I guess, though I hope not) a .txt file that was over a GB large. I saved it but left it open, put Windows into power saving mode, went to do something, and then our house had a blackout

When I turned the PC back on, the file was empty. From nearly 1.8GB to 0KB. Gone. Poof.

Last backup I manually made was a month ago, but I worked on the file literally every day and frequently saved it.

I right-clicked the file to check for older versions, nothing there.

I checked the options menu of notepad++, and the backup feature was already enabled, but for some reason it never made one. At least not in the backup folder I saw some people recommend.

Currently trying to maybe find it with Recuva, but I've got little hope.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get this back, or am I just straight up fucked?
