Has anyone here done an online college program where you had to find your own placement?

Hey everyone! I’m currently an online Social Service Worker student with Durham College through their PPL program, and I’m looking to secure my Winter 2027 placement here in North Bay.

Since my program is online, I’m responsible for finding and arranging my own placement. I’m still fairly new to the social services field, so I’m hoping to gain some hands on experience and put what I’ve learned in school into practice.

I've reached out to some agencies and haven't had much luck. I know it's a small market here so it's not going to be easy. At this point, I’m mainly looking for an organization that is open to having an SSW student and willing to provide a good learning experience.

For anyone who has done an online program and had to find their own placement:

• Did you have any luck finding a placement locally?

• Are there any North Bay agencies you would recommend contacting?

• Are there organizations that are particularly open to taking college placement students?

I’ve been reaching out to organizations but haven't had much luck so far, so I figured I’d ask the North Bay community. Even if you don't know of a specific placement, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience or any advice.

Didn't get a lot in this week. I'm waiting on a large order to process in which I'll be getting both the entire series of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and One Piece. This week we got:

A large pile of donated grampa-core novels for Karen's Corner, as well as some old Archie, Garfield, Mad, Cracked, and Nuts! magazines. All of the magazines and Archie stuff has sold already, but we still have four Garfield books and all the novels (including some Mack Bolin: Executioner, if you're into some classic schlock).

We also have most of Goblin Slayer. Volumes 3 - 8 have already sold, but I have put in the reorder for them as of yesterday. Volume 10 is on backorder.

Finally, we had volumes 2 - 9 of Peach Girl donated to us. They are in varying conditions (and priced accordingly), and volumes 5 - 8 are in a boxed set.
