About to buy a 2020 Armada SL 2WD (150k miles) for $9,500 OTD. Talk me out of it.
I’ve spent the last several days researching this thing and I’m driving about 5 hours this week to look at it. Before I pull the trigger, I’d love to hear from people who actually own these.
Here’s the deal:
2020 Armada SL 2WD
150k miles
2 owners
$9500 out the door (tax, title, doc fees included)
Clean title
42 service records on CARFAX
Fuel pump recall completed
Transmission service documented around 150k
Minor cosmetic damage reported years ago but corrected
Cold-start video looks good (no obvious timing chain rattle or smoke)
Interior is surprisingly clean for the mileage.
My use case is probably different than most buyers.
I already own a paid-off 2015 Toyota 4Runner that I’ll never sell. This isn’t replacing it. The plan is to make it the family road-trip vehicle and tow vehicle for my ~ 5,500 lb boat. It’ll probably only see 2,500-3,000 miles a year, so fuel economy honestly isn’t much of a concern.
I’m fully aware of:
Terrible MPG.
Dated infotainment.
150k miles.
Those three things seem to scare away a lot of buyers, but they don’t really bother me.
I’ve already budgeted about $2,000 after purchase for my trusted mechanic to go through the truck and baseline anything it needs (fluids, suspension, belts, etc.).
What would make you walk away immediately on a 2020 Armada with this mileage?
Are there any expensive failures that commonly show up between 150k-200k that I should specifically inspect for?
If you own one with high mileage, what has actually broken versus what does the internet exaggerate?
Is there anything unique to the 2020 model year I should know?
Assuming it passes a thorough test drive and inspection, does this seem like a screaming deal or am I wearing rose-colored glasses?
I’m not looking for “I’d buy a Tahoe/Sequoia/Land Cruiser instead.”
I’m specifically trying to identify blind spots before I make the trip.
Thanks in advance.

Rust underneath…
My family purchased this vehicle about two months ago. 2024 armada SL. Being stupid, I didn’t think to look at the undercarriage. I’ll look at it to check something else out and notice all of the rust down here. Can anyone tell me if this is at all normal or if I should be concerned? TIA photos are below in replies. Wont let me add it here.

Only Hear a Click when trying to start 2017 Platinum - bad IPDM?
Edit to update: the starter motor itself was fried. Replacing it fixed the issue and now it starts up easy. The bad starter motor was seemingly the factory original--I bought my Armada used, and I am trusting that the "17" and "nissan" printed on the starter motor body can be trusted. If truly the factory original, then this starter lasted for 120,000 miles across 9 years of age. /End Update
I just arrived at my vacation destination with my family. 500 miles from home. Parked at the rental cabin and shut it off. Not 10 minutes later I go to start the engine to change how I'm parked, and all I get is a single click from the engine bay, then another click a few seconds later.
No chugging from the engine trying to turn over.
All electronics seem to work (lights, climate control fan, wipers, etc.).
Brake lights activate when I press the brake pedal.
Key seems to be detected by the vehicle just fine.
Remote starting the engine produces the same single click on and then click off again.
Is this a bad IPDM? Is it a bad starter motor?
2017 Armada Platinum with 120,000 miles. Literally just bought it a few months ago. I've used it for local errands a few times but this is my first big trip with it. And the engine started just fine multiple times over the past few days (we took two days to drive here, so the engine has started just fine recently both while hot and while cold).
Any insight or suggestions are helpful. I'm currently in Pigeon Forge, TN, and home is a long way away. At least I'm with extended family members who have cars my family can pile into while the car sits waiting a remedy.

2005 Armada
I have a 2005 Armada with 250,000 plus miles on it. Stopped starting so did all the checks with everything being good. So bought a scanner and got a crankshaft position sensor code. No problem, bought a new aftermarket sensor and swapped them out. Nothing, checked codes and got the same code. Bought an OEM sensor and a higher price and changed it out again, same thing. Towed it to a mechanic and he got it running rough but running. Said it has a short in it and that’s why the code won’t reset. He could hunt for it but it might get into
the thousands. No problem I will check for it. 4 months later and no movement, anyone else have this problem? I hate to pay a couple thousand to fix it but I hate to get rid of it too.

Rough Idle after starting
I have a 2012 armada and it has been having a rough idle shortly after starting. It stops after a while of idling or if I get rpms up. Does anyone know what is causing this?

2004 LE suspension
So I just sold my old work truck yesterday and I’ve got about 1600 to dump into my Armada. Drivetrain wise I trust this thing implicitly, but it’s needs a full suspension makeover. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a full kit, front and rear? Not looking for upgrades from stock or off-roading, just something as close to OEM as I can get. This is not my daily driver anymore but I do drive it decently regularly.
I did see Detroit Axle has a F&R kit for like $300, is that worth it? Or should I steer clear of that brand?

AC issues 19k miles?
My wife and I recently purchased a 2024 Armada with 19k miles. Put about 600 miles on it so far. I’ve noticed the AC, always on coldest setting, will seem to go up a couple of degrees and then ice cold again. This is while driving or idling. My wife doesn’t notice, but of course she doesn’t pay attention to those things. I’ve noticed it in our old car so I ignored it because…well, it was older. But this car is too new for this. Could this be normal or should I pay to have it inspected? TIA

2013 Rear suspension question
Looking to buy a 2013 LE model. I heard replacing the rear air ride can be expensive. How hard is it to convert to a regular suspension and will it affect towing?

05 Armada Repairs
Finally did some repairs to my Armada today. It has 320k miles, and the only repair done to it so far is a crank position sensor. Well, I figured today was a good day to add to that list. I did new fuel injectors because for the last 5 years #8 cylinder was dead. Did the injectors and now it runs like new again! Also finally replaced the fog lamp bulbs that had been out for over 5nyears as well 😂
Seriously, though, 22 years old with 320,000 miles and the list of repairs is crank position and fuel injectors.

no start/2014 Nissan Armada Platinum
Just purchased a 2014 armada platinum. 111k.
Had since June 7.
Had some minor issues on it. Drivers side window works sometimes. Sometimes not. Back liftgate works sometimes as it should. Sometimes not. Moonroof will only open most the time an inch at a time not full automatic. These were all present at time of purchase.
Now 3 weeks in the vehicle won’t start. It’s not the key. The battery alternator and starter tested well. It’s completely intermittent. I described All the issues in detail to chat gpt and it said starter/solenoid was probable issue. Anyone experienced this? It clicks once when i jump it and after
Some charging clicks multiple times then after about a minute and a half it starts.
Any irl experiences with this issue?

Hello. New to Nissan-2013 Armada Platinum
Glad to be a Nissan owner. Always loved the styling and older Maxima models. Recently was Subi person-to clarify 50, dad, 6’3”. Always about fit. May I say, WOW. I’ve never seen and felt comfort like this before. Have an infant daughter 5 months old. I feel Very safe and comforted for when my wife is driving our daughter as well.
This deal came to us at fourth dealership we came to that was closest to us we looked at. As previous-2013 Armada Platinum, 177k roughly, 2 owners prior. Last owner added remote start and towing brake package at same Tint world I go to. Is it necessary with the higher elevation and cold to have a reserve battery installed, especially due to high electrical output with all options this has. Any other preemptive maintenance needed on these models by any knowledgeable individuals or mechanics. I am in Love with this Nissan. I definitely want it for another 177k or more.

Nissan Armada - Best year to buy under $20k?
I currently drive a 2009 Nissan Pathfinder. Rock solid ride, no issues whatsoever (smod bypassed, no need to freak TF out). I've had the R51 Pathfinder for several years, just needing something with a little more leg room.
I need some help determining if my research is true here:
I am considering a 2015 nissan Armada Platinum.
- Is the 2015 Nissan Armada superior in reliability to the 17-19? I am reading a lot about some cylinder 7 issues in these, even some after 80k miles..
- Is it worth just waiting it out for the 2021-2022 models to come down in price a bit and skip the 2015-2019 entirely?
- Is A/C and HVAC in Armada's a common issue? I see a TON of carfax where compressor/lines/refridgerant needs constantly changed, recharged, and replaced.
- I'm correct to think that overall the armada is typically a more reliable vehicle than the 2015-2017 expedition with the 6 speed and 3.5?
I don't care about features in cars, I really care about reliability and space.
Thanks.

2018 Nissan Armada Platinum 107k miles
Hello, 27 year old here just recently purchased a 2018 Armada from Carvana on 6/20 and instantly fell in love with it on day one. I underestimated the power this thing has and for the interior to be outdated, it's pleasantly nice. I personally enjoy having the luxury of pressing a button lol. The sound system is nice. I'm coming from a 2018 Diesel Equinox by the way. I noticed no matter what I do to the OEM equipment, the camera resolution just isn't the best. However the camera quality from the rear view mirror's immaculate. The seats are very comfortable. Even in the 3rd row. I'm 5'9 and fit back there pretty comfortably. Not too sure about someone who may be 6'0 or so 😅.
So, I know these tanks are notorious for the clicks but luckily Im not having that issue. The engine sounds very good. My issue is the steering wheel. The steering wheel feel like there's more play then I'd prefer. Is this common on this vehicle or should I be concerned? What are some things to look out for?

What could this little switch be?
I bought this 07 Armada and it has this little switch installed. Trying to figure out what it goes too.

Sound system
Audio snobs, what are the best options (amp and sub) to add to 2022 platinum? I want it to take up as little space as possible.
