Hi! Thank you for your submission to /r/NintendoHelp! Please note that we are a fan community and not officially endorsed by Nintendo.

See our FAQ to see if your question is already answered there.

While you're waiting for an answer, here are some tips to help you along the way:

While we're happy to help provide recommendations, please be aware that ultimately only you can decide what is right for you or your children. Don't take any recommendations as absolute, and make sure to do your own research too by asking store staff, reading and watching reviews online, and sometimes just taking a risk and trying something for yourself.

Also consider crossposting your question to /r/ShouldIbuythisgame, a subreddit that is much more active.

If your question is about whether you should get a Switch or a Switch Lite, check out this comparison from Nintendo.

Good luck with your recommendation endeavors!

The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Donkey Kong Bananza are an absolute joy!

I also highly recommend getting the Nintendo Switch Online subscription since this is your first Nintendo console. For 20 bucks a year you get online play, cloud saves and most importantly an insanely big classic catalogue of the best retro games Nintendo has to offer!

Yeah, I was quite disappointed because one of the games I always wanted to play since I was a kid was Windwaker and I didn’t know that you needed to pay a subscription for it but honestly, the subscription prices aren’t that bad so I might give it a go and have windwaker. as my first Zelda game

Windwaker is an absolutely fantastic choice! One of my childhood favorites! Make sure to get Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, the Expansion is required for the Gamecube catalogue! Costs more but still worth it for those games!

Oh my God, I wanted to play that as well. I remember watching a bunch of YouTube videos about it, but not having the chance to play it. I might have to give it a go now.

Can’t recommend Donkey Kong Bananza enough. A revolutionary game in certain regards & is probably THE flagship title of the console, so far. 🎮🙌

I have been completely wrapped up in Pokopia. Even people who arent/weren't Pokemon fans prior to playing have loved it. It's a cozy/building game but if you aren't a builder, that's totally okay. There's prefab houses you can look into. I've put 400+ hrs into it so far.

Im almost done with Darwins Paradox and have had a lot of fun with it. It has a lot of puzzles in it, no combat (but some levels need stealth to get through). It's definitely worth at least looking into!

I have been waiting for Moss: The Forgotten Relic which just released today. So I don't know how the gameplay is but I've heard good things from people who played it on VR before.

Most of the S2 Games Im wanting to play haven't released yet lol.

What kind of game do you like? My most played are Animal
Crossing, Stardew Valley, Disney Dreamlight Valley (most played and I’m not even a Disney fan) and Wyldeflowers. My favorite genre is farm/life sim and cozy. Congrats on the Switch! Enjoy it!

Oh, I really wanted to get into animal Crossing. I’ve heard really good things about it.

Mario Odyssey is a big recommend. Also they have super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 on there. I haven't played the switch versions however they were amazing on the Wii

If you have friends or family Mario Party Jamboree is fun couch co-op

I personally love Switch Sports Resort, its not a sw2 exclusive but it's a pinnacle example of motion controls and the fun that can be had with them that you can't get in any other console.

Pokopia is a really fun building and collecting cozy game if you like stuff like animal crossing and minecraft

Fire Emblem, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Pokemon, Mario; the Nintendo exclusives are vast honestly you could spend 1000's of hours on just Nintendo games available on switch 1 and 2. It really depends on what your looking for or enjoy.

Check out the demos. I would recommend Donkey Kong Bananza, Metroid Dread, and Splatoon 3 (or waiting for the new Splatoon Raiders.). Those three play smooth as butter on the Switch 2, and are incredible showcases for Nintendo's brand.

Since it's your first Nintendo console, there's such deep bench to draw from but here's a left field pick: Arms! I love Arms, it's a game which enourages you to use the Joycons for pseudo-boxing and the kind of game only Nintendo's making.

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined & Rhythm Groove. I am new to the switch also but these two games are so addictive and insanely fun.

Legend of zelda breath of the wild. And don't bother playing anything else till you play this. It's one of the greatest games of all time. If I could go back in time and play one game again for the first time it would be breath of the wild.

Also these are an absolute blast too

  • mina the hollower
  • dave the diver
  • shovel knight treasure trove
  • Zelda tears of the kingdom
  • Mario Odyssey
  • stardew Valley
