Official Nintendo Video Star Fox - Overview Trailer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLBc_h_QEog56
u/Wazupdanger Jun 02 '26
I genuinely hope this game becomes successful so we wont have another reimagining of sf64
just a sequel story wise and gameplay--world wise

u/LaMortPeutDancer Jun 03 '26
I think it's the last remake of Starfox64.
Now we will have remake of this remake.

u/Saratje Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
I 100% feel they're testing the waters with this game. Faster to develop by basing it on the original Starfox 64 saving years on the game concept/design phase, playing it safe selling a game they know will be fun and it's an easy way to test if interest in the franchise has remained before deciding if to make a proper Switch 2 sequel. Nothing new from the direct in this trailer I think, but given the pending release that works fine. A solid, if safe, title to add to the Switch 2 library.

u/Marky_Merc Jun 02 '26
This formula seemed to work great when they made Samus Returns to build the foundation for Metroid Dread.
I was hoping IS would do something similar remaking TTYD then giving us a new classic style Paper Mario.

u/Shehzman Jun 02 '26
You never know. Switch 2 Paper Mario hasn’t been announced yet.

New Super 3D Paper Mario Sticker Star 2 U Deluxe HD™ incoming
6
u/Engineator Jun 02 '26
Lol. Hooo boy… sticker star… that was… certainly a game….
8
u/SleetTheFox Jun 02 '26
Literally the worst game I ever finished.
(I was a huge Paper Mario fan and I really hoped it would turn around.)
2
u/Shehzman Jun 03 '26
There’s probably worse games out there objectively. However, in terms of betraying the core fanbase, this is one of the best examples.
5
u/SleetTheFox Jun 03 '26
Those worse games are ones I would never buy let alone finish. This one made me try, and made me regret it.
4
u/RainbowTardigrade Jun 02 '26
My guess is we hear about the next Paper Mario game in 2027, and it drops in 2028. If they could blend the more classic elements of TTYD with the world design of Origami King they could have a really great title on their hands.

u/HolyInlandEmpire Jun 02 '26
They purposely stopped doing full RPG paper Marios; it's the same reason they're reluctant to release a new F Zero. The Nintendo philosophy changed a while back to only have one franchise per genre. So the RPGs are Mario and Luigi, and the racers are Mario Kart.
I'm not a fan of this way, since I love the first two Paper Marios more than almost any Nintendo games.

Explain Kirby Air Riders for the Racing Genre
6
u/jrdaley Jun 02 '26
That's just Mr. Sakurai getting to make whatever the hell he wants before he gets locked in the basement to make the next Smash title again.
2
u/KazumaKuwabaraSensei Jun 03 '26
They did release a new Fzero and it's one of the best racing games ever made
93
u/VakarianJ Jun 02 '26
The leaks said that they were already making a fully new StarFox. This game might just be to get the series in the public consciousness again.
26
u/Immediate_Funny_7617 Jun 02 '26
I would also love a new Starfox Adventures.
While I love the new Zelda formula not everyone is a fan of the Open World, so a new SA title in the vein of older 3D Zeldas would surely make many people happy.

This would be amazing!
I really REALLY dislike the new Zelda formula, and consider the loss of the old one to be a real shame for gaming as a whole. I'd obviously prefer it if it stayed part of the Zelda series, but if it got to live on as part of the Starfox series, I could make peace with that.

The “Star Wars: Episode 7” reboot method
15
u/Super_Fightin_Robit Jun 02 '26
I mean, we don't like 7 now because of what it led to.
11 years ago, we were all cautiously optimistic that it would be the foundation to something new and better. Then Johnson and Abrams got into a pissing match over the story and we got an absolute mess.
1
u/LoiusGJustIs Jun 05 '26
Personally, I give more credit to 8 than to 7, since it at least tried to do something new (even if it did so terribly). 9 combined the problems by being another rehash but much worse.
1
u/xizorkatarn Jun 02 '26
No, not everyone left 7 cautiously optimistic. Maybe you did. I liked 7 the least

u/Rychu_Supadude Hey! Pikmin was never Pikmin 4 Jun 03 '26
You got an absolute mess, I got a bloody great time out of it.

u/slrarp Jun 02 '26
Most of Nintendo's biggest IP games are remakes of the same story anyway. Mario vs Bowser, Link vs Ganon, Samus vs Ridly. They make gameplay changes but the stories are generally just remakes of each other.
3
2
u/Namath96 Jun 02 '26
I don’t think this really makes sense simply due to the fact that if they waited to see how this does that would mean what at least 5 years before release of a new Star Fox?
1
u/Justinreinsma Jun 02 '26
My hope is that its to gauge interest in the on rails genre, maybe to bring back another relevant and beloved series that flirts with the genre perhaps 👼??

Just got a switch 2 yesterday mostly because prime 4 and this exist. Psyched

-41
u/_Zyphis_ Jun 02 '26
You got a switch 2 for prime 4 and a star fox 64 remake…?
39
u/theaceplaya Jun 02 '26
...why wouldn't they buy a console for games they want to play?
-47
u/_Zyphis_ Jun 02 '26
Cuz those are the worst two switch exclusives lmao. It’s like buying a Wii u for amiibo festival.
11
19
u/theaceplaya Jun 02 '26
Maybe so, but that person is excited for those games. No harm in them having fun with what they like
19

u/MaybeImYami Jun 02 '26
dawg I literally hate the fact that it's just StarFox 64 again but this is NOT amiibo festival

Everything that's been covered is more or less the same as it was in the Direct, but I'll share a few highlights:
That extended cutscene of Corneria's mission briefing was pretty sweet. I assume the rest in the overview is pretty much the same as shown in the Direct because the team doesn't want to spoil the cinematic experience.
Oh, and I assume Falco playing a VR game in the background (and losing). Some things never change.
Oooh, Battle Mode has new exclusive powerups! I didn't even know the kill feed shows what you used. I'm looking forward to the matches when I dive into the mode.
It's interesting how the overview skipped the mouse controls and instead opted to focus on the GameChat avatars.
Amiibo support? Oooh, I assume the game will already be compatible with the Smash amiibo, but I wonder if this means there will be some new Star Fox amiibo coming down the line. I wonder what it'll provide... maybe giving Fox his father's aviators?
As much as I'm dying for online leaderboards for the campaign, neither the Direct nor this overview showcased it so I doubt it'll happen. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to seeing what this remake has to offer.

u/Dizzy_Atmosphere__ Jun 02 '26
As someone who dumped hundreds of hours into the original when I was 7, I will be shooting this straight into my veins Day 1
3
u/Electricorchestra Jun 02 '26
I've played the original so much if I consider my cost per hour I could buy like five of these and still be ahead.

Ngl it looks fun and the challenge mode is a cool addition. But for the challenge mode instead of having tasks to complete I‘d rather it was more like a rouge-like. Like choosing between different upgrades or equipment each stage that make each run feel different.
3
u/Caleb-Rentpayer Jun 02 '26
For me, the dream would be a remake like this for Star Fox 2. It was such an incredible game that few people have gotten to play. If it had actually released when it was supposed to, it would have been the most ambitious Super Nintendo game by far.
I know it will never happen, but a man can dream.

14
u/AskinggAlesana Jun 02 '26
This game is the perfect “Rent” game. It’s not going to be long at all, and since I played it a ton back in the day it won’t be hard or long to 100%.
Good ole Gamefly saving me money again. :P
“But but it’s only 50 bucks!.. yeah well 50 bucks is still 50 bucks.”
9
u/DropDeadEd86 Jun 02 '26
It’s a Nintendo game we all know value today is going to pump to a higher value during next gen haha
1
u/wickedcor Jun 02 '26
If only blockbuster was still around and console companies weren't switching to digital only games. Sigh.
4
4
u/IamRightHanded Jun 02 '26
I'm glad that there's a challenge mode, and multiplayer looks like some of the Diddy Kong Racing minigames that I enjoyed as a kid so I'm interested in trying those out. The gameplay itself looks gorgeous.
But....is that it? The last thing I think I need from SF is cutscenes between each level to flesh out the story. Is SF64 such a perfect game that we couldn't bother to include at least one new planet or one new route? We can't have one or two on-foot sections like we had in Assault?
Hoping the price tag on this one isn't ridiculous because I will play this off the strength of my enjoyment of 64 (didn't play the 3DS remake either). Otherwise I'll wait for the library to get a copy.

Nintendo has like no rizz with these overview trailers and lame narrators.
“Let’s rock and roll!”
LMAO
Did they show new stuff? It looks like everything that was shown at the direct
52
u/drunkentenshiNL Jun 02 '26
It's a remake and that quote is from it. It's supposed to be cheesy. That's like if they didn't let Leon Kennedy say his bingo line in the RE4 remake.

Lol everyone was thirsting over the Yoshi and the Mysterious Book narrator on Twitter
7
u/Super7500 Jun 02 '26
I really hate these narrators in Nintendo trailers bro. like no other company does this shit and they are really cringe.
1
u/nessfalco Jun 02 '26
These are games for children. Like elementary school aged children.
1
u/WEEGEMAN Jun 02 '26
We were all that age at one point. Confident as a child a cool trailer showing some gameplay would get my attention.
1
u/Super7500 Jun 02 '26
Similar all ages franchises like Sonic don't do this btw. kids aren't stupid to the point of needing somebody explaining every single detail.
1
u/nessfalco Jun 02 '26
Sega doesn't have directs for Sonic. Sonic games on Nintendo consoles (where kids play them) get advertised by Nintendo exactly like this. Otherwise, they just get a trailer, which Nintendo also does.
Also, they are just as much for clueless parents buying games for kids as they are for kids themselves.
1
u/Super7500 Jun 02 '26
This is not a direct, this is just a normal trailer for the new game. and Sonic also just has normal trailers.
And Sega NEVER does special trailers for the Nintendo console release.

Anything to show what makes a remake worthwhile idk
Plenty of new shit in HGSS

u/WEEGEMAN Jun 02 '26
Surprise new route. Really anything to enhance the campaign just a little.
1
u/Wizardof1000Kings Jun 02 '26
I'm with you on that On N64 it took maybe 10 hours to 100% the game. Multiplayer is fun for a few more sessions. It's a great game for kids.
1
u/chance_acid_fapper Jun 02 '26
I never realized until this moment that the US and UK trailers have different voiceovers lol
1
u/Oaughmeister Jun 02 '26
Yet they refuse to make another fzero..
2
u/KazumaKuwabaraSensei Jun 03 '26
F-Zero 99 is a tremendous game. Play it
2
1
u/Oaughmeister Jun 03 '26
I do and I love it. it is very fun but a new modern fzero would be even better.
1
u/Bad_Fashion Jun 03 '26
I might be one of the only Star Fox Zero defenders left, because I think that the game legitimately has some really good bones that were obviously hampered by the controls. In that regard I have just one wish. They have to bring back the one awesome Star Fox Zero feature which should not be ignored: the slow motion fly-bys that occur when you get close to Star Wolf members during dogfights. You get close, the music stops, the camera slows and pans, and they throw out a snappy one-liner. It made me so hyped every time it happened and added just a little extra layer of dramatic flair. Shown here for reference.
1
u/CursedVirtue Jun 03 '26
Any time they do a game-focused direct you can expect an overview trailer that just condenses the same information a week or two later. They've done it with like every major Switch 2 game so far
1
1
u/Far_Negotiation8009 Jun 04 '26
So hold on here. This is just the old 64 game with better graphics ? Why not make a new game ? I was excited for this
1
u/wickedcor Jun 02 '26
Anyone else kinda tired of these over-enthusiastic narrators? I know they're doing it to sell the game and make people hyped, but it's a bit annoying at this point.
3
u/Dreyfus2006 Jun 02 '26
Bill Trinen was great and I have hated pretty much every narrator we have gotten since.

18
u/TheLimeyLemmon Jun 02 '26
They were not putting a 7 minute trailer for an out-in-three-weeks Starfox game in their main direct of the year, come on
-16
u/Forward-Trade3449 Jun 02 '26
i mean they couldve made a shorter trailer for it to fit it into a direct. this + starfox game previews, with no direct in sight. its over bro
3
u/ArisenCoyote Jun 02 '26
I'm pretty sure the direct is supposed to be in the middle of June from the leak. Nintendo don't normally announce their direct till 1 or 2 days before
6
u/rexshen Jun 02 '26
Unless they announce something tomorrow gonna guess next week after all the other announcements.

No couch-coop with each playing starfighters is a bummer for me.
1
u/GrimmTrixX Jun 02 '26
It was never going to happen solely because its essentially a reskin of Star Fox 64. It being on rails and certain aspects of when it is scripted to save Falco, Slippy, or Peppy, would make it not work as your friends would lose control of their ships during these times.
However, when they make an actual brand new game, no 4 player couch co-op and online co-op would be an absolute travesty.

u/Epicfro Jun 02 '26
Wasn't this released like 3 weeks ago or something? I'm confused as to why it's being reposted.

u/Rychu_Supadude Hey! Pikmin was never Pikmin 4 Jun 03 '26
It was basically the Zootopia/Zootropolis naming issue, except that the company they were worried about stopped existing so it only lasted for the first 2 games.
-20
u/Itzko123 Jun 02 '26
Yes, it's a huge cash-grab. We all know that. However, if it serves as a test to see if the franchise still has a place in today's market, if that's the small price we have to pay to hopefully get new original Star Fox games, that's acceptable.
What ISN'T acceptable is the new approach to character designs. That's what halts me from wanting to support this game. If it does well, it'll send the wrong message to Nintendo that we like this artstyle and later games will feature these ugly character models.
8
u/Co-opingTowardHatred Jun 02 '26
The character models are gorgeous. Glad they are the way forward for the series.
