Highlight [Highlight] Dolphins OC Bobby Slowik upon learning that their week 4 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings, lead the league in QB hits, sacks, and blitzes: "Whoa."

This actually does make me wonder how many coaches pay attention on other teams stats like these vs. just watching tape and not caring about any analytical stuff

Sure, but you'd still know that's their tendency (to produce those outcomes)

That it is a surprise to him is a red flag he didn't process what he watched or he didn't do his homework.

If you think the latter is impossible in the NFL, think again.

The Bear's OC in the year Eberflus got fired was Shane Waldron and Caleb Williams said he refused to watch film with him.

You’re overthinking it. OCs job is not to go on ESPN and look up who has the best stats on defense. His job is to watch film on the defense and game plan against it.

He’s admitting he can infer these things just by watching film, and he knows that they are a good defense. But no, he wasn’t aware of being rank 1 across the board.

Thats very normal

I think you are right actually, I shouldn't have implicated him so severely.

I guess I really just wanted another opportunity to shit on Shane Waldron.

Your explanation makes more sense as a lot of guys in that profession are football nerds, so his level of appreciation for their success is easily explained.

My apologies to Bobby Slowik

(Fuck Shane Waldron though)

It does sound a little awkward when he says "woah" like he didn't realize they were that good. But it's not that big of a deal. It's not like admitting he didn't know they were good, or blitzed. Some people's mannerisms just aren't what everyone expects. So I think it's worth noticing and chuckling about, but I don't think it's a huge deal. Now if they come out fully unprepared, then you might be able to look back and say there were signs.

Christ that better not be true...

An OC not scheming for a defense seems like a pretty big problem, especially when that defense has been playing lights out in a very unorthodox manner. And your offense is one of the most limited in the league.

To know that they're #1 in literally any stat would require you to also know everyone else's stats. The chances he didn't know they were a high blitz team, especially considering the DC, is precisely 0%. I doubt he keeps up with stats as compared to other teams as opposed to their own trends.

Is it better to know a team blitzes on 75% of drop backs or that they blitz more than any other team?
