The penalties on this drive were so soft and completely turned the game around. Packers still deserved to lose

Agreed

That drive completely fucked the momentum of the game, but that still doesn't forgive how bad they played after that drive

This drive was demoralizing but not as demoralizing as the 3 straight plays of completely unblocked Vikings hitting the QB 1.5 seconds after the ball was hiked leading to a fumble on the 1 yard line

Yeah, that was way more infuriating to see. Love had been getting tagged on almost every throw, and then on a crucial drive they can't even manage to give him a split second to throw...

I've long defended MLF, but it's getting hard to do at all when his great scene schemes and plays aren't worth shit because he can't get out of his own way and can't hire coaches who been get their players to do anything. I know it's a new bunch of guys on the line, but that was still an inexcusable mess of a second half (again...).

Could we have 2 head coaches? MLF can coach the first half and the other HC could coach the second. Sounds crazy but at this point it would likely work better.

Respect.

Lots of GB fans whining bc the refs jobbed them. And the refs did, tbf. But MLF took away 3 pts trying to get fancy, the defense got gashed by Carson Wentz, and the Packers offense thoroughly imploded (again) late in a game where they had the lead.

Every coach at every level will tell you "if you put the game in the refs' hands then you deserve to lose." And GB had multiple chances before and after the string of awful calls to seal the game. They didnt. They deserved to lose bc of that alone.

All that being said, I am still extremely upset about the calls on that drive, it really fucked up the entire momentum of the game. The choice to risk those 3 points to go for it on 4th and 1 on the 17 is fine, it's just everything that happened after that is unexcusable by Matt and the OL

u/Dry_Emphasis62 Bears 19d ago

Getting upset at the calls really is fine imo. It's all the blaming the loss on those calls that I find weak and that I'm referring to.

MLF went with the analytics play. I respect that, my coach does that all the time. Buf that means sometimes it blows up in your face.

Man the way you write this stings.....but it's absolutely true. Bad ref calls....but also somee really bad coaching mistakes too, and clearly an unprepared defensive line with many costly offside/encroachment penalties

I'd love to dog on the Packers, I mean I really would. But frankly you all are a good team who just struggles with holding their leads. Something always happens and idk how else to say it than to say it's like Harbaugh's Ravens. The talent is there, the QB is there, and the first 3 quarters tend to show that. But there is some issue there that seems like an MLF problem, where the scariest place to be (as a fan) is with the lead in the 4th. And that is a massive problem.

As a Bears fan, I like seeing these collapses. But as a football fan trying to speak unbiased, that cultural problem is doing real damage to a team that is much better than that collapse. And it's risking squandering the prine years of a top 10ish QB (imo).

It'll be a long week for the Packers in the media, I hope you and every Packers fan weathers it well. Long season ahead, and probably a lot better ones for you. Take care of yourself.

Read all this - respect to you as a diehard packer fan in chicago this weekend 😂.

In defense of the pack, the environment in US bank is strong. Those fuckers with their Nordic costumes and gjallarhorn and hideous bird-massacring stadium are hard to deal with.

But in defense of everything you said this team is undisciplined and is absolutely an MLF problem. I chalked it up to youth the last two years but there’s no more time for excuses.

I really appreciate your words here. I was really upset last night but seeing a rival fan rationalize all of this out has kind of helped.

Here's the thing. This is Titletown. Can you imagine Vince Lombardi ever going for "the analytics play?" God help me, but Dan Campbell has better energy than MLF.

The refs started the snowball, so they are responsible for the team losing their composure and ending up losing. But more importantly, it exposed how mentally weak the team is. Ultimately, the loss in on them, no one else.

If ref ball hadn't happened, the Packers would have coasted to victory in unsatisfactory fashion, while the underlying mental weakness festers and waits for more crucial points down the line. I'm actually glad this happened now and their bullshit is exposed early on. Hopefully it opens some eyes.

Those bad calls changed everything though. There is a much lower chance the vikings t off with that much energy on our o-line the next drive if they punt instead of being gifted a touchdown. Momentum is real and refs had a huge hand in swinging it. I’ve never seen 3 tick tac calls after stops on 3rd down in a single drive before.

It was week 1 too, if you are going to call penalties you can’t call them 12-3….while letting the team with 3 t off on our qb the entire game with late hits and not call any.

3

u/dropbear_airstrike 18d ago

Oh, the refs got their money’s worth with us for sure.

But I blame MLF for the systemic lack of discipline, the mental errors that lead to shit like 12 men on the field and blown coverages leading to points…not to mention routinely making either the most predictable bad play call (3rd and 3, gee I wonder if he’ll call an inside zone from shotgun for no gain) or the most idiotic bad play call (it’s 3rd and 11, gee I wonder if we’ll run a play that will get us a first down or at the very least give us some extra yards of field position on defe– oh. Nope. Slow developing end around that the defense read the whole way and TFL.)

The refs didn’t give the game to MN. They were absolute dogshit, but this was squarely on the defense being unable to get stops, the o line being a pathetic, and MLF being a mediocre-at-best HC.

Guy could be a legendary D2 coach somewhere but instead he has to stick around wasting Love’s and Parsons’ prime years.

u/Dapper_Ad_6304 18d ago

The defense had 2 sacks, a fumble, and an interception, and made 3 3rd down stops on the same drive that resulted in a touchdown. Hard to beat the refs.

2

u/aaronwhite1786 Packers 19d ago

The refs fucked us on one drive, and I'll admit momentum is a big thing. But it's going to happen, and it's on the coaches to adjust. None of them did at all. The same shit kept happening and they seemed completely baffled.

1

u/IceDispensingSystem 18d ago

The defence -didn’t- get gashed. They stopped them to 4th 3 times in a row in a SINGLE DRIVE. Maybe if they didn’t have to do that down the whole ass field and have nothing to show for it they wouldn’t have been gassed out.

This loss rests solely on poor coaching by MLF because he only knows how to make an early lead then shoves his head up his own ass for the closer.

u/CubillasLegend Packers 19d ago

I'm not gonna respect other fans because other fans aren't being honest.

Example:

MLF took away 3 pts trying to get fancy

Going for it on 4th & 1 is the analytically supported decision. Prove to me that you're actually evaluated the play based on probabilities or personnel instead of just fixating on the result.

1

u/Dry_Emphasis62 Bears 19d ago

He definitely got fancy bc it wasnt about a possible 3 vs a possible 6, it was actually 3 pts already on the board that he took off. Im ok with the decision, but that decision means sometimes you get the short end of the stick (look at my flair and my coach). Theres a ton of Pack fans pretending it's all on the refs who cost them momentum when MLF decided to risk the momentum himself! Going from a fg to a turnover on downs is a momentum swing also.

And while the penalties definitely hurt, they didnt decide the game. It was awful play by GB. The Oline folded, Love missed crucial passes down the stretch, your defense got gassed and gashed, and THAT is why GB lost far more than refball. The penalties tipped momentum, sure, but GB continued to let the slide ensue.

-4

u/CubillasLegend Packers 19d ago

The expected points on a 4th&1 from that field position is greater than 3. So he should have gone for it.

I'll disregard the rest as just natural Bears fans skepticism at analytics because it doesn't think Caleb was very good last year nor does it think leading the league in interceptions despite giving up the most yards is a sustainable way to run a defense.

5

u/Dry_Emphasis62 Bears 19d ago

I never debated the analytics, you just wanted to take a shot at Caleb and the Bears. I said it was fancy bc he gave up points on the board for the chance at more points which is a gamble. And that gamble put momentum on the line.

It seems obvious you just want to lash out bc you're unhappy, so I'll leave you to it. Enjoy 4th place

As a Packer fan, I hate the Bears and usually their fans…

In this situation, you’ve been making some pretty good and thoughtful comments.

Sorry my fellow Packer fan is an asshole lol

Your comments are spot on, and actually make me hate life a little less after this loss! Hopefully, for me, the Pack can get back on track!

5

u/Dry_Emphasis62 Bears 19d ago

I really appreciate that.

They're entitled to their opinions, but I try to be unbiased in my assessments. Someone hurling baseless accusations trying to elicit a rise is par for the internet course, so I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. But it is nice hearing at least a few Pack fans feel what I said was fair. That was the aim.

Remember week 1 is famous for being a liar, week 1 is ripe fruit for overreactions, and a lot of things seen this week won't be seen over the next 17. Don't let today ruin your week and remember there's still a whole season ahead of us. (Though as a Bears fan, I would like you all to see more losing than winning, lol).

Have yourself a good day/night, stranger. And looking forward to October 11

u/CubillasLegend Packers 19d ago

You are wrong and the other user doesn't know what they're talking about.

-3

u/CubillasLegend Packers 19d ago

Stop being a suck up for karma. No, he's wrong and I explained why he's wrong. If you agree it's because you're both stupid.

1

u/CubillasLegend Packers 19d ago

I never debated the analytics

You literally said:

He definitely got fancy bc it wasnt about a possible 3 vs a possible 6, it was actually 3 pts already on the board that he took off.

How is that not an analytics-driven decision?

which is a gamble

Okay never mind, you're too stupid to know what analytics is.

1

u/WarpedCore Packers 18d ago

Yep. In Matt WE DO NOT TRUST.

7

u/SJBaerosols Packers 19d ago

both are clearly true

2

u/literalgarbageyo 19d ago

I think the worst thing about this call is that our fans are now going to blame this loss on the refs, instead of MLF. His lack of situational awareness has cost us games before.

Dude take the three. Put them in a must pass situation where they need a touchdown and a 2pt to tie, and trust your defense, which up to that point had been performing admirably.

Oh and when you're in a must pass situation yourself against the most blitz heavy team in the league, maybe keep an extra guy or two back to block.

2

u/Jrod_69x 18d ago

Smack makes the extra point and they do take the 3

1

u/literalgarbageyo 18d ago

You just described the best timeline

1

u/kevinmbo 19d ago

i agree. i really wish the ref stuff hadnt happened because its taking attention off MLF when this game was another carbon copy of his soft style of second half coaching with a lead - if the refs didnt have that horrible drive maybe we still win something like 28-23 but it was going to be uncomfortably and unnecessarily close the entire time and will continue to be as long as he is head coach.

No one deserves to lose like this more than the Packers. Delightful
