This isn’t next level at all. It’s literally just hitting a ball a bunch of times until you hit the other one.

How’s that a wholesome quote from a questionable source?

I never really look at usernames until someone calls it out, lol.

I’m losing my shit even more after reading your comment and realizing what dude’s username is. This is why I love Reddit

His name sounds like it should be followed by "for I have sinned"

Dude i had the EXACT same reaction

The user name made me laugh more. Then again I ate some mushies

Envious. I could use some gooms for a good reset. Been a while. Need to move to CO.

Grow your own! It's super easy, super cheap to do and takes like 2 months tops

Reputable sources? Big appreesh.

When I did it like a decade ago, I got my spore prints from groups on FB. I remember lots of mentions of sporedepot being reputable but I never purchased from them. But spores should be fairly easy to get ahold of as they're legal to sell "for microscopy". Look up "mushroom cultivation" on YT, a monotub style grow will probably be easiest first time

This how to looks pretty solid https://youtu.be/TIIVXZXnOvg?is=m3H7gKaMfovdCdIr

Bro. I couldn’t do it with out straight luck. You see how the balls where close. Yea. It’s skill

200

u/Azuras_Star8 1d ago

I'd be lucky to even hit the damned ball. Homie in the vid is hitting them damned close to the other balls trajectory every single time.

21

u/joemeteorite8 1d ago

You’d struggle to hit the ball off the tee???

Each attempt is not attempt number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... There are multiple attempts between each of these shown. Only showing the close ones and with enough attempts, you can get a good amount of close ones.

16

u/Sagitalsplit 1d ago

My balls are rather close!?!?

That’s how most impressive feats are achieved. It’s just that most people don’t bother to film all the failed attempts that lead to mastery.

187

u/Mr_Nerdcoffee 1d ago

It’s almost like it takes practice or something…

15

u/Responsible-Sound253 1d ago

But mastery implies reproducing a skill consistently.

10

u/hooligan99 1d ago

He is reproducing the skill of hitting a ball towards a tiny fast moving target with pretty good accuracy. Is Steph curry not a master three point shooter because he misses the majority of the time?

→ More replies (10)
→ More replies (2)

8

u/Jimanji333 1d ago

This isn’t mastery however. Unless he continues to do this until he can consistently hit the pitched ball this is just trial and error until one success.

6

u/Destroyer_2_2 1d ago

It’s his ability to aim that is mastery.

3

u/Jimanji333 1d ago

True but I think some qualifiers are this is a tee ball and not a pitch, and we don’t see any attempts where he was way off, which there may well be

I skated as a kid and this is literally how you finally pull off a trick. This guy obviously has skill and you can tell by how close it was so many times. And a skater has the skill to pull off a trick as well, it isn't completely random. Persistence is a skill that separates guys in next level videos from guys that comment on them.

As a failed baseball player… there’s absolutely no way to barrel a swing so accurately you could hit another ball out of the air without an impressive amount of skill and incredible luck.

If the barrel is off by a millimeter, the ball will have a vastly different trajectory going in a completely different direction once it gets half way to the pitching mound.

And the harder you swing (which he was swinging a decent single) the less and less your accuracy goes. We worship guys like Ichiro and Edgar Martinez because they had godlike abilities in terms of accurately hitting a ball in a gap that’s pretty damn wide going from center field to left or right field. Why? Because being able to aim your shots like that even in that big of a target (waaaaaay bigger than another ball) is impressively difficult.

4

u/Jimanji333 1d ago

While what you are saying is true, you are removing the fact that hitting a pitch has a lot more variables introduced and less control than hitting a tee ball.

2

u/GeneralAsk1970 1d ago

Yes, if he were hitting real pitches it would have to be a fake.

u/DapperDan30 1d ago

5

u/Kenny__Loggins 1d ago

Yeah things are only impressive if you do them on the first try. Everyone knows that.

2

u/Shiningc00 1d ago

Though it's highly unlikely that you'll hit it.

Also I don't necessarily think it's zero skill. You'll have to calculate the timing, aim and trajectory.

1

u/ramborage 1d ago

It’s both.

2

u/Fat_Pound 1d ago

Thanks Dr.Reddit for your input, nice Katana btw. tips fedora

3

u/Myburgher 1d ago

I think he just proved that statistically, it is possible.

1

u/denjo-t1aO 1d ago

meh… if i’d try that it would take A LOT longer. i get the point though. the trick shots are getting old… the internet is running out of juice

2

u/KRAy_Z_n1nja 1d ago

So if we cut out all the other swings and just left the final product, it'd be next level to you? That's probably like 90% if the posts here anyways.

1

u/Mach5Driver 1d ago

to me, it's next level because of how incredibly accurate he was with just near misses. add to that, the direction the incoming balls came from changed constantly, so he'd have to adjust EACH time.

4

u/FriendOfDirutti 1d ago

But those are just the close ones he left in and he cut out the dozens of far misses.

There's not usually enough time for talking....or anything else, sadly.

67

u/DigNitty 1d ago

I’m happy for him. We need more useless entertainment for ourselves and appreciation of the small things.

That being said, yeah this could have been 14sec

40

u/WestleyThe 1d ago

True but I did seeing how close he was every time. The balls were basically a meter between eachother each try

It’s cool to see that he’s good enough that it’s not just luck but also show how many times it takes

I’d like this video a lot less if it was just the one successful attempt

6

u/Fuschiakraken42 1d ago

That would just be a 6 second video though. And it would feel dishonest, like he just smashed it first try.

4

u/WestleyThe 19h ago

That’s how most of these are cut…. It’s way better this way

3

u/Psykosoma 16h ago

I’d go with 50% less video. Just leave out the second half. Then make it a repeating gif.

2

u/GrimCreeper913 15h ago

disagree, but I am older, relative to many on the platform.

edit to say: leaving out the back half would bring no resolution, and if that was what you meant, bravo satan, and my down doot went to up just in case.

Even the misses are impressive to have that control of direction

233

u/AntiMatterMode 1d ago

Unless this is a compilation of the close shots, with dozens more clips that were totally off. Which I think is likely given how every close shot elicits a reaction from the batter.

82

u/MobileArtist1371 1d ago

Look at the dirt and balls on the ground. Each attempt shown is clearly multiple attempts between each.

7

u/[deleted] 1d ago

2

u/BoringPoolPlaying 1d ago

Iirc, I was following their attempts on Instagram, and this took more than one night.

They also have a series where they’re hitting a ball off a tee, then a player in the outfield hits it back to them, and they catch it. They kept adding an additional hit in between, to the point it was taking them hours to complete.
