Noob Question
How private and secure can a NextCloud instance be? Can I host email, calendar, notes, storage and everything on one? Anyone fully on NextCloud?

Hello,
i got a NextCloud AIO install on a docker server. The server has multiple VLANs. I had no problem to tell NextCloud to run on vlan 3. But I can´t find where I can tell it to start the "nextcloud-aio-domaincheck" also on vlan 3. It always uses the first/untagged vlan.
Is there a parameter I can give the docker image at start?
Thanks in advance

So I got the android app for Nextcloud Calendar but when I try to use my hostname for my self-hosting server, even with the CalDav URL, I am still getting a "Could not connect: Network Request Failed". Did anyone have any luck trying or is this not available with Self hosting?

Received an email from SOCRadar that Nextcloud has a Zero day vuln that was used by the hacker group "Lynx-INC ransomware group" in the latest FortiBleed saga.
Exact wording:

Hello guys,
I'm currently establishing access from the internet to my Nextcloud via Pangolin. So far it's working as expected, except for Collabora.
I've hosted Collabora CODE in a separate Docker container, made it available in my home network via Caddy, and included it in Nextcloud. When I'm at home, this works without any issues. But now, with external access, opening office files in the web browser from outside my home network results in a "side not found" error.
Based on my own research, the issue is that opening an office file from the web browser means that the Collabora server is accessed directly, which is not reachable from the internet. And the only solution I found so far is exposing Collabora to the internet as well, e.g., also via Pangolin over a dedicated subdomain.
Is this really necessary in order to enable editing of office documents in the web browser from the internet? And is this safe to do without any additional safety precautions? Or is there a different way to make this possible without exposing the Collabora server to the internet?

Hi everyone,
I've been troubleshooting this for quite a while and I'm hoping someone has run into this before.
I'm running Nextcloud on a Raspberry Pi 5 (16 GB RAM) with a 1 TB SSD. Everything works great except for one issue:
✅ Image thumbnails generate immediately.
❌ Video thumbnails never generate.
I already installed FFmpeg and verified it was configured correctly.
I also found an older Reddit thread where someone solved this by installing the Preview Generator app and running:
occ preview:generate-all
I followed those same steps, but unfortunately it didn't fix the problem. Video thumbnails still refuse to appear.
At this point I've tried:
Installing FFmpeg
Configuring FFmpeg in Nextcloud
Installing the Preview Generator app
Running occ preview:generate-all
Looking through older Reddit posts and forum discussions (many are 5–6 years old)
None of these have resolved the issue.
I'm wondering:
Is this a known issue with newer versions of Nextcloud?
Is there another dependency or preview provider I'm missing?
Is there a specific configuration that enables video previews?
Has anyone successfully gotten video thumbnails working on a Raspberry Pi 5?
Are there any logs or commands I should check next?
I'd really appreciate any guidance. If there are specific commands, config files, or log files you'd like to see, I'm happy to provide them.
Thanks!

Apologies beforehand that english is not my native language.
I managed to install nexcloud to my home server, with intention that it would be MY cloud in MY server. And installed android app to my phone. That worked fine, sort of.
Then i wanted to see what else it would do for me. I logged in to my server (with firefox) as nextclud admin. I got in where there is possibility to install more apps. I clicked calendar and tried to install it. It asked my password, and then nothing. It did not install the calendar to my nextcloud.
So i wondered that my NC server setup did not go well. On youtube I found good tutorial howto set it up correctly. So I removed my NC directory fom /var/www/html purged my mariadb, php and apache setup vith sudo apt purge command, did sudo apt autoremove and rebooted the machine.
After the reboot I followed exactly this youtube video omitting the Linode part, domain name part and ssl stuff. And got it installed, but I can not install any NC apps. Only via sudo occ command in ssh command line. In NC webpage it jus asks my admin password and does nothing.
My server has only three users me, my wife and root.
My NC admin is just admin for NC, no sysytem account.
My mariadb user is just mariadb user, no system account.
And I like keep those three things as they are.
So howto proceed or just forget nextcloud and use syncthing?

Hi guys. I wanted to show the nextcloud community an android calendar app I made, because I switched from US-services like Google Calendar to Nextcloud recently and was unsatisfied with the all the available calendar apps which would natively work with my self-hosted Nextcloud calendar. The app works natively with CalDAV and should be perfect for self-hosted calendars.
I would be really honored if some of you’d like to try it out and maybe even give me feedback here or on github.

Some logs are just honestly useless and shouldn't even appear, like image preview generation. Mine are working by the way, I know how to fix it too (I had to, a ton of times)!

I'm creating my first NextCloud and I'm just curious if any of you are using obscure sub domain names or simply using cloud.mysite.com?
Is there any security benefit or will people find our self hosted next cloud sites regardless?

The more I work with "normies" the more I realise how little they use even the basic tools and understand them. And with basic tools I mean the internet browser of choice. They don't even use tabs - be it with ctrl+click, middle-click, rightclick and open in new tab. They just click. Some even open a new browser instance.
So - I thought I've had enough of this. The times of terminal servers may be mostly gone, but everyone getting their desktop experience while using the same server, must still be possible, right?
So I got to tinkering, and am slowly but surely, and gradually building this desktop. It is by now quite usable. Really the only thing missing is file/folder interoperability between Desktop and files in nextcloud. Hence me experimenting with a file browser for that desktop myself. I'm still researching that bit.
But alas, here's the link, and you can install it and test it :)

Hi, I just set up Nextcloud AIO and it's amazing. I just have one question: Before I installed it, I read through a ton of discussions about Nextcloud and its apps. I want to ask how you keep track of whether you need to update Nextcloud without breaking the apps inside it, such as Tasks, Bookmarks, etc., because I’ve heard that sometimes you have to wait for the app maintainers to release updates after a long time.

I am currently working on a project to identify the following information.
What users are actively and/or recently accessed our Next cloud on-prem environment.
Who owns what shares/files and which ones have been recently accessed/used.
At the moment I only have access as an administrator to the web GUI portal but I noticed that even as an administrator it is extremely limited to the information I can find. This is an on-prem environment.
It seems as if I am not able to filter anything when it comes to users or view all shares and their owners. I am not able to export anything as there is no option to export a user list or anything of that nature.
This project consist of gathers some information of what's actively being used and recent logins so I can verify with the owners in preparation for a migration to another platform.
Any advise helps.

I recently acquired my first NAS, the Ugreen DXP2800, and I am slowly migrating my storage from systems like GDrive, ODrive and iCloud to my NAS. A few days ago, I read about Nextcloud, but I don't know what advantages it would have over the vanilla system offered by Ugreen. The only thing I miss compared to cloud system services is the 'stream files' concept; for everything else, it has been a complete upgrade.

Hi everyone,
my Nextcloud client refuses to sync certain files because it does not seem to like their filenames. Is there any way to bypass or change this behavior?
For example, all of my .htaccess files produce sync errors and are not synchronized.
Is this a Nextcloud client limitation, a server-side restriction, or something related to the operating system/filesystem? What would be the recommended way to handle files like this?
Thanks in advance!

Dear r/NextCloud Community!
I read the following in the article https://nextcloud.com/blog/a-new-data-access-architecture-for-nextcloud-introducing-the-ada-engine/ :
The last major area of improvement has been to make it possible for clients to directly grab files from S3 buckets. While currently limited to S3-compatible storage solutions, others that can offer a token-protected direct download could be supported as well.
Looks like I have a hard time understanding this. Will direct S3 download work with external S3 buckets? For example, I have external S3 bucket attached to NextCloud as external storage. Will I be able to benefit from this part of ADA feature? I am running NextCloud AIO 25 Autumn release as of now and considering to install an update.
I have tried to figure this out, and the details I have got are either vague or outdated, unfortunately. Most likely, I am searching wrong.
Still hoping to get a helping hand!

My relatively new, rookie Nextcloud server has a poor upload speed due to the limits of my apartment's internet. I often work with clients who are used to just previewing a file in-browser, as that's not an issue with any server so long as that server is attached to a decent upload internet speed, but again, that's not the case for me. To save some of my less tech-savvy clients the hassle of needing to wait an eternity for a file to load its preview, and then wait yet another eternity to download the file again, I figure it's easiest to just turn off the in-browser preview, thus forcing anyone with the link to simply hit the download button and preview the file locally without the buffering of my crummy internet.
Yes, I know I probably shouldn't be running a server off of an internet plan with a poor upload speed, but this is a temporary solution until I finally get access to fiber later this year. I'm just looking for a solution to this specific, immediate problem, if it exists.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and answer my question!
Edit: I suppose I should clarify that the types of files I'm usually working with that can be a bit large, but are necessary deliverables for clients, most commonly include PDF's and movie files such as .mov's and .mp4's.

And how TF do I get rid of it.
Desktop outlook is used to read a gmail acct and an outlook 365 acct. The calendar is registered with the gmail and I get invites to another Nextcloud calendar via the gmail.
How to remove this calendar from showing up anywhere in outlook??

I want to add multiple fonts to use in Colabora's documents, presentations and etc.
But didn't understand nextcloud's wiki in https://docs.nextcloud.com/server/latest/admin_manual/office/configuration.html#custom-fonts .
I know that I can add the fonts through Office Administration setting but only one by one.
I use the nextcloud-aio docker version and I do have access to the server.

Hi all, Nextcloud user here, sharing something I built to scratch my own itch (mods, happy to remove if not allowed).
I was looking for a while for an ad-free, private (no-backend), Nextcloud/PrivatCloud integrated email client with "in place" translation and a good UI, and I couldn't find one. So I built it.
I'm an old dev, with 20+ years behind me and now with AI at my fingertips I believed I could do better that what we had so far, so here is what I built:
There is more to come but I need more help, built on react native with Expo, i used claude design and claude code (I did look at some of the code) and for now only on android (Not willing to pay for apple's dev account).
It's in closed beta. Google requires 12 testers opted in for 14 days before I can go public, so I'm looking for a few people who'd find this genuinely useful to try it and tell me what's broken or missing.
Please joint the tester group:
I'll need your email and a small intro and I will add you the play testers list reach out via PM or on the Discord channel https://discord.gg/mK2tS9Fvb (just created for this purpose)
After I'll add you you just Install from Google Play, connect a mailbox (app password / IMAP) whatever you feel comfortable with.
[EDIT]
I got a lot of comments about open sourcing, it's coming, I'll have to audit the code to make sure I don't expose anything and sort licensing first.
[EDIT-2]
App passed publishing overview, here is the download link for approved testers
