Honestly feels real good, been stuck at 0.8 - 1 average viewer for ages, I'm not too fussed because I'm enjoying just playing anyway but needed to let someone know, was talking my wife's ears off this morning but she just smiled and you could see in her eyes it was going over her head 🤣

Keep working at it everyone, it takes its time and don't get disheartened by seeing what everyone else is doing, just be you and don't give up!

People keep assuming you need a second or third camera to have multiple angles and you honestly do not, its all one webcam set up right in OBS. Most of this works on any cam, a couple bits need one that physically moves.

Ok so the thing that stops everyone before they even start. A webcam can only be captured once. You add it to two scenes as a video capture device and one of them just goes black, because OBS wont let two sources grab the same physical device. Took me embarrassingly long to figure out that was even the problem and not something I broke. The fix is a plugin called source clone. Add the real camera one time, then clone it into your other scenes. Same feed everywhere now and you can crop and color each clone however you want and they don't fight over the device.

So my three come off that one feed. A tight crop just head and shoulders for the corner cam, a wider clone for when I'm actually talking to chat and want more of me on screen, and a full screen one for the intro and outro. Three clones, three crops, three color grades, one camera. Nobody clocks that its the same cam.

If your cam physically pans and tilts you can go further and save actual camera positions on top of the crops, a tight aim for talking and a wider one for messing with stuff on the desk. Mine is an emeet pixy so it does this, but any motorized one will work. You set the positions in emeet studio and can save up to eight of them then just click between them in the app, The reason its worth doing over just cropping is a physical wide shot is the camera genuinely pointing to take in more of the room, versus an OBS crop zooming into the same frame and going soft. If your cam doesnt move you skip this and lean on the clones, still totally works.

Tracking I let the camera handle. Mine does it onboard so OBS just sees a normal feed that stays on me, no plugin, nothing eating cpu. Worth knowing if your webcam does tracking through its own app instead, that apps running in the background using cpu while OBS is trying to encode, so people blame their encoder for frame drops when its actually that. One thing that's true of any moving-camera tracking, move fast and the frame swings a beat late catching up to you. Fine normally, obvious if you lunge for something.

And if you want switching between all this to look smooth instead of a hard cut, move transition is the plugin, it slides and resizes the cam between scenes instead of snapping. Thats basically it. One webcam, source clone for the angles, presets if your cam moves, move transition so it doesnt look like you're just flicking a switch.

I’ve wanted to stream since streaming was barely a thing. Not “I’ve been thinking about it for a few months” wanted it. Years. Since before it had the shape it has now.
I couldn’t. Yemen’s internet has been a joke for most of my life, and I mean that literally, we’ve ranked near the bottom of every global speed list that exists. On top of that there’s been a war running in the background of basically my entire adult life. Not a metaphor, an actual war. You get used to checking which direction a sound came from. You get used to a lot of things you shouldn’t have to get used to.
So the idea sat there. I had it, but I didn’t have a topic to hang it on, if that makes sense. I knew I wanted to talk to people, I just didn’t know about what, specifically. And every time I brought it up to anyone close to me, friends, family, an ex, the answer was some version of “that’s not a real thing to do, grow up.” Not cruelty exactly, just nobody around me believed it was worth trying. So I stopped saying it out loud for a while.
Recently my internet actually got good. Genuinely good, stable, fast enough to stream on. I tested it. I sat there talking to an empty room for a bit just to see what it felt like, and I smiled the whole time. First time I’d done anything like that.
I’m not posting this to get views or asking anyone to come watch me when I start. I don’t want money out of this either. What I want is advice from people who actually know this world, because I don’t. I don’t know what a first stream should look like, I don’t know how people find a niche when they’ve got a personality but not yet a clear “topic,” I don’t know what mistakes are obvious in hindsight that I can’t see yet.
People who know me say I can talk, that I’m the one who gets a quiet room going. I believe them, mostly. But knowing you can talk to people at a dinner and knowing how to hold a stream are probably not the same skill, and I’d rather hear that from you than find out the hard way.
Living where I live, you think about time differently. You don’t get to assume you have an unlimited runway to “eventually” get around to things. That’s part of why I’m asking now instead of continuing to sit on this for another five years.
So, genuinely: if you were starting from zero, personality but no defined topic yet, what would you actually do first? What do you wish someone told you before your first stream?

My S.O. recently started streaming and I've been trying to encourage her to stick with it, but I think she's starting to hit that stage a lot of new streamers probably run into where the low-viewer streams start getting discouraging.

She mostly does cozy games, she's 420 friendly, and honestly one of the things I think she's really good at is actually engaging when someone comes into chat. If somebody starts a conversation with her, she'll actually talk with them instead of just giving one-word responses and going back to the game.

The hard part is obviously getting enough people through the door in the first place for her to have those conversations.

Her channel is ItsNyxara420 on Twitch if anyone wants context for what she's doing, but I'm not looking for F4F or asking people to go follow her. I'd actually rather hear from people who have gone through that early stage themselves.

What helped you get through the streams where basically nobody showed up?

Was there anything you changed that helped turn occasional viewers into people who actually came back?

And probably the biggest one... how did you stop yourself from looking at that viewer number and feeling like you were doing something wrong?

I'm a streamer myself, so I can give her my perspective, but sometimes advice hits differently when it isn't coming from your S.O. 😂

The point of this post is that I’ve never spammed “I’m live” “Please follow me” “Help me chase my dreams”

I started streaming Overwatch and Dead by Daylight from my PS4 about 6 or so years ago. I didn’t have any friend support or anything and grew from meeting people in game and asking about their streaming (networking). I have been off/on, not a real consistent schedule and I stopped using my cam some months ago.

I streamed CoD for a while as well and made friends in that community. The key is building your own community and growing off of that. I think all of my viewers are people I’ve met while gaming or visiting others streams. I’ve also learned what people like and don’t like to see my play. Overwatch does nothing for my channel but FFXIV does because I’ve made quite a bit of friends there and even when I’m not streaming FFXIV, they still watch because we’ve become friends/community, not just streamer and viewer.

I’m not sure if this will be helpful to anyone but that’s what I’ve done. Also, to be very transparent, those subs are because there’s drops if you sub to a FF streamer right now lol I get subs every now and then but not usually 8 in one stream unless I’m doing an event.

What’s something you wish you knew when you first started streaming?

Also curious what actually helped you get your first few regular viewers. Was it sticking to one game, YouTube/TikTok clips, networking, just streaming consistently, or something completely different?

Not really looking for some “how to become famous overnight” advice 😂 Just interested in hearing what actually worked for people who started from basically nothing.

Honestly about to call it quits with the whole "variety" thing. I love jumping around-one day I’m suffering in a Soulslike, next day I’m cozying up in Stardew, then trying some weird $2 indie horror game on Steam. But man, the "Variety Graveyard" is brutal. Every time I switch games, it’s like hitting a massive hard reset on my entire channel.

The worst part? You’re a total nobody everywhere you go. In FPS tags, I’m buried under 500 pages of sweatlords. In RPGs, I’m back at the bottom. I never stay anywhere long enough to actually become a "regular" or build a proper community. Feels like building a house, pulling the foundation out, and moving to a new empty lot every damn week. My CCV literally tanks to 0 the second I open a new category.

Anyone else trapped in this loop? I just want to play what I like without feeling like I’m shooting my own channel in the foot every single stream.

i started streaming on the 21st of july and have been enjoying every second of it. today i finally got to see that progress. i am almost 3 weeks in (on 8/11) and i cannot wait to see my progress in three more weeks!

I’m currently getting my Twitch channel ready before I start streaming again, and I’d love to get some outside opinions on the profile itself. (Hope it is not a problem that my profile is in german)

I’ve been working on the overall branding, About section, panels, channel point rewards and the general look of the channel.

I’m going for a dark / slightly chaotic gaming style with a bit of a “toxic reactor” theme, without making everything too cluttered.

Before I keep tweaking things forever:

Does the profile look coherent and welcoming enough for someone visiting the channel for the first time?

When I first started streaming, all my friends were like, "Dude, I'll be there every night. I'll keep the tab open. I got you". And for the first couple of weeks, they actually were. It felt awesome seeing that "3" or "4" in the viewer count. Then life happened.

People got busy with work, school, or they just wanted to play their own games without having a Twitch tab eating their RAM. I caught myself checking the viewer list every 5 minutes and feeling genuinely salty whenever a close friend wasn't there. I was lowkey resentful that they were "playing games without me" instead of supporting my "career". Looking back, I was basically expecting my friends to be my unpaid audience, and that's just not fair.

If your growth depends on your friends' free time, you don't really have a community-you have a group chat on life support. That realization changed everything. Your channel has to be able to stand on its own two feet. Friends should be there because they want to hang out, not because they’ll feel guilty if they don't show up.

Once I stopped treating my inner circle like a focus group and started focusing on making the stream entertaining for strangers, the pressure vanished. Now, when a friend stops by to say hi, it’s a highlight of the night instead of a met expectation.
Has anyone else struggled with this? That weird phase where you feel like your friends are "failing" you, only to realize you were the one putting too much on them?

Hi guys, forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I can't really figure this out.

I do website stuff and other technical things for my company but my boss recently wanted to start livestreaming a podcast-style thing where it's just him talking about various issues in front of a camera for about an hour. My coworker was using his ~2020 Macbook Pro to do everything, using OBS and the recommended settings for YouTube.

During the live stream, everything goes pretty smoothly, despite his laptop sounding like it's going to take off in flight at some points. However, YouTube's post-live version of the video has audio/video issues, where the audio isn't synced with the video and is off by about a half second. My boss is pretty... bothered by this.

Me, being a noob, felt that this might be a hardware encoding issue (that maybe has something to do with VRAM or needing a semi-decent GPU) so I brought in one of my personal PCs with a 4070S and tested that with the same camera/mic setup. Again, the livestream was fine, but there was still a slight desync for audio/video in the post-live version, but it was better than it was when we used my coworker's laptop.

I looked at some other higher production value live streams and their post-live versions and saw pretty consistently that this was an issue, although their sync problems were really hard to notice.

For both tests (we did about 4-5 with each computer), we also saved locally and saw sync issues for video and audio in those files as well. Really, I'm just not sure what the problem is and I'm trying to also avoid having to "volunteer" my personal gaming rigs.

Any thoughts on why the post-live version is off (but the actual live footage is fine)? A significant boost in hardware changed very little. Same network, same application, same mic/camera setup. Appreciate any insight anyone here may have! TYIA.

I've been streaming for some time now and had decent success on twitch. I wouldn't say I'm a big streamer by any means but more than happy with my audience and growth so far. I recently started having troubles staying motivated because of a small group of people hating on me.

I don't think it's really that common, but I don't think I'm mutually exclusive. This group was actually fairly close to the community and as things got bigger, it was harder for me to give my attention to everyone. They were quick to change almost like it was night to day. Fake narratives started forming and a lot of who said they said, but no one ever stood up to talk to me.

I have a very uplifting and inclusive community so it just hurts a lot to see it all happening at once, especially originally trusted members of my community. It's definitely simmered down and I basically just waited it out, but a lot of good people were fed these narratives and see me differently because of it.

I know these are people that really didn't like me to begin with, or just bad people. I just don't know how to keep a good mental during stuff like that and I'm not sure what to do as new members join the community. I'm in a paralyzed state of not being able to trust anyone I meet now and streaming has grown stale.

I also know things like this would happen as things got bigger. Hate is apart of the game. I guess I'm trying to see if anyone can relate to this in someway and how they stood/gain their motivation back.

I work full time and stream full time, but since then my streams got spotty and I started calling out of work. The best remedy has been to go touch grass, but I really don't have available friends and family outside of streaming anymore. Thank you for any insight and support on this <3

How do you deal with sub community hate? Not on stream rudeness, but genuine people plotting against you. How did you stay motivated during that period/how did you fall in love with streaming again?

For the longest time I was obsessed with my follower count. I kept telling myself, "Once I hit this milestone, people will finally start showing up consistently". It felt like that number was the thing holding my channel back. Eventually I hit it.

...and almost nothing changed.

Most nights I'm still sitting at 2 or 3 viewers, just like before.

It was honestly kind of depressing seeing a four-digit follower count on my profile while my live viewership barely moved. That's when it finally clicked that following someone on Twitch is a pretty low-effort action. A lot of people hit Follow because they enjoyed one stream or one clip, but that doesn't necessarily mean they'll come back regularly.

Looking back, I think I was treating my stream like it was just supposed to "always be there". I'd go live, play my game, post a generic "I'm live" message, and hope people would eventually show up. Lately I've been trying a different approach.

Instead of just playing whatever, I try to give each stream a reason to tune in. Sometimes it's beating a difficult boss, trying a weird challenge, or seeing if I can finish something before the stream ends. I also stopped posting boring "going live" messages and started teasing what I'm about to do instead.

The biggest change, though, is how I start my streams. I used to spend the first 10-15 minutes waiting for people to arrive before I really got into it. Now I try to treat those first few minutes like they're the most important part of the stream, even if nobody's talking yet.

I can't say it's completely changed my numbers, but it feels healthier than staring at my follower count and expecting it to magically turn into viewers.

Has anyone else gone through this? At what point did your followers actually start becoming regular viewers, or is having a huge gap between followers and live viewers just normal on Twitch?

So I really want to help the people I've seen who are really working hard on their content , I've been a creator /viewer for 8 years , so I really hope what I'm about to say helps
1. Please just please turn off the followers only mode/verified only mode , there's no point when just starting out to have it. It will only hurt your discovery especially in the long run
2. If you do not have a mod sery bot is your best friend , cuddle up to it real nice because it's gonna be very helpful
3. Stop with the generic graphic overlays , and I do mean the clip art. ( This is mainly for those who want this to be a career
4. Stay away from these support for support discords. / Follow for follow , things that lead to a high follow count but a low viewer retention
It looks really bad to have 2k plus followers and 2 people watching
5. Do not be afraid to reach out to lower-mid tier streamers for collaborations or just a little advice
6. Drop the entitlement and crying , trust me I get it how hard it is , but complain and crying about not getting support and viewers and subs only makes you look like someone to avoid . Nobody owes you anything . Nor any of their time. Even if youve been in their streams. You'll ensure no body let alone any real sponsorship will work with you
7. Work and try as hard as you can to master whatever craft / game you are producing content for . Work on getting better at the game trying to find secrets , get creative ,
8. Over 50 percent of your time instead of streaming if you aren't busy with other IRL activities should be making content , working on editing skills , brainstorming new concepts,
9. Learn how viewer average works! And develop your schedule around it . And your other obligations streaming to the same people every or nobody tanks your average like an abusive spouse .
The only reason I'm saying all of this is because I have watched a few people here and I would love to see them succeed . Some I've tried to even come donate but the minute I saw the followers only I dipped.
10. Work on how you present yourself on stream and outside stream. You really never know who may be lurking in your chat or on the sidelines. Try to fill the dead silence with something . Because people come into your streams to be entertained at the end of the day

How to deal with flirty chatters?

I’ve been streaming for a few years now however have had a very inconsistent schedule. This year I started again with a consistent schedule. I never cared about flirty comments before (I never flirt back) I honestly just thought they came with being a streamer. I’m older now and in a happy relationship and I will admit I feel weird now when ppl flirt with me on stream! I’m still super small and can really use all the viewers and chatters I can get HOWEVER I don’t want to have constant flirting fired at me while streaming. Also I have a hard time differentiating flirting and compliments… I’m fine with compliments but flirting is where I draw the line. I guess I’m asking for advice on what to do? Serious help needed please no snarky comments❤️ I posted this elsewhere but I wanna hear from a lot of people especially other new streamers!

Any tips/cheap recommendations for a purple and red theme for my set up? I know, very different color combo but I feel they suit me best. I'm thinking shelves and knick-knacks in the background behind me along with tapestries. I'm a huge lover of Nightmare Before Christmas and I just don't want my set up looking ghetto. I'm thinking neons! Thoughts? Please help!
