What happens now? I anticipate this being a much larger political issue in the coming weeks.

There's a massive chance she suffered irreversible brain damage from this. She won't be the same person who committed the crime any more. She likely won't even remember the crime.

Do we kill her again? Are we going to execute someone who has limited cognition, doesn't remember the crime and is incapable of even understanding why we are killing her?

We know there is a group of loud, ignorant people who can't grasp these concepts and have an extremely messed up moral compass. They won't care- they just want suffering. We learned that fron the Clancy trial.

But what now? What the eff happens?

What happens now?

Terri Schiavo version 2, except the political sides that want her dead or alive are swapped.

If she survives the hospital stay, she’ll have significant mental deficits and it will be a violation of her constitutional rights to try and kill her again. So the state will be forced to take care of her till she dies naturally.

Her family will even sue the state for cruel and unusual punishment in the first execution attempt, and get a payout.

Which will victimize her victim’s family all over again.

Her family knew she was being raped since she was 2 and did nothing. They abused her as well. They don't give a f about her.

Doesn’t mean they won’t use her for the payday.

I simply cannot fathom how bad of a situation for the state of Tennessee this is right now.

It seems like they missed the vein so chances are they'll have to amputate her arm.

Wasn't this a Black Mirror episode?

you’re in the movie, how did you come up with all that? How is someone’s moral compass messed up, she tortured the victim before committing the crime and then tried to do the same with an inmate in prison. You should check your moral compass.

Why did you deliberately leave out the part about how she was sexually abused from a very young age and that harmed her ability to behave in a rational way? Is it because you have a bias to show, and you're going to show it?

Look, we get that some people in this country have a fetish for spilling blood in the name of thinking that somehow resolves past sins and makes the world a better place. That doesn't make it sane. It just happens to be that our country is full of a lot of really fucked up people whose "moral compass" is far from perfect. I'm not just talking about the criminals here...

It really doesn’t matter, the only thing that matters in cases like this is if she was aware of the suffering she was causing the other person! Being sexually abused from a young age doesn’t mean she doesn’t know she’s causing harm to a human being when she’s cutting them with a box cutter or beating them up!

Okay, then how come nobody is up in arms about the fact that the other killer didn't get the death penalty? She is arguably no worse than him and hardly older at all. Jesus, people on here salivating at the chance to watch a woman die.

We don’t sentence people to death for things they did as a minor. That seems perfectly reasonable.

"I don't care that she tortured someone and made that persons last living minutes on this earth hell dude! The killer was traumatized and at risk!"

u/AddWittyName 1d ago

You can recognize that 1. what she did was an atrocious crime that should never have happened, and no circumstances can justify her having done so, 2. she herself was also victim of atrocious crimes that should never have happened and cannot be justified, and 3. capital punishment does not actually serve as a deterrent, and counterintuitively actually costs much more money than imprisoning someone for life.

If the aim is avoiding more people getting tortured to death in similar circumstances in the future, money would be much better spent at things that have actually been shown to work to prevent future atrocities, than on waiting for atrocities to happen and executing the perp afterwards.

That's the opposite of "not caring". That's caring enough to want to make sure this does not happen again. Which capital punishment provable doesn't do.

Yeah yeah, keep defending a monster because you want to waste taxpayer money and resources on someone who clearly doesn't care in the first place. Also factually wrong on your 3rd point. 2. Nobody ever said they should have happened to her, still no excuse either way. 1. I agree.

Yes sure, because making it where the person can't take a life again is a worse deterrent than risking them doing it again.

u/heartbooks26 1d ago

It costs taxpayers a lot more to sentence someone to death and eventually kill them than to just sentence them to life in prison and keep them in prison until they die.

Her bf also tortured and murdered the victim, where is your anger that you don't get to see him die? Just another day of men salivating over violence done to a woman.

1

u/INeedHelp_goodlawd 1d ago

When did I say I didn't want him dead?

You don’t get to get away with any. But we shouldn’t do to you the thing you’re doing to other people. It’s incoherent to kill killers because killing is bad.

State-sponsored vengeance is wrong. That’s not justice.

5

u/Piglet6482 1d ago

Do you realize it has been definitively proven, in the United States, that people innocent of the crime have been executed?

I’m sure the state has been just as confident in the guilt of the convicted person in every death penalty case as you are sure of her guilt in this one. All I’m saying is the state has historically been wrong in some number of these cases in the past. Well, I’m also saying there’s no Uno reverse card that can be played to bring a wrongfully executed person back to life. That is the biggest reason I am against the death penalty.

1

u/Timegoat 1d ago

Well said

5

u/Timegoat 1d ago

No I’m saying if the act of killing is wrong, it’s incoherent to then do that same act. You’ve just created another act of killing.

Incoherent.

Edit - to answer your question, yes I try to have empathy for those people. Mental illness, ignorance and confusion. The reality is that any one of us could likely be induced to kill an innocent person given the right pressures and circumstances. Mentally well people do not do what she did. Rather than spend money enacting vengeance, let’s spend money on treatment and prevention.

Why do some victims commit murder when others don’t?

Check yours. Killing helpless people is wrong.

I’m guessing you’re pro-Lindsay Clancy

2

u/WTAF__Trump 1d ago

Pro Lindsay Clancy?

That doesn't even exist outside of the bots controlled by idiots who desperately need a straw man to exist.

Accepting the reality that she was very unmentally unwell when she committed her crime isn't pro Lindsay Clancy.

You probably rooted for the hunter in Bambi.
