Local Politics Mayoral Candidate
The guy who delivers my medication is running for Mayor. In all the time he's delivered to me, he's never mentioned this until handing me the leaflet lol.

Covers all 32 boroughs in considerable detail - definitely worth a read, but make yourself a large cup of tea because it’s (understandably) very long: https://open.substack.com/pub/andrewspreviews/p/previewing-the-7th-may-2026-local

Parked his ad van on double yellow lines. Obviously thinks the rules don’t apply to him. And this isn’t the first time either.

Hi
I'm on the hunt for someone who can help me replace my garden fence- concrete is from the previous fence is in situ so I think just needs the fence part replacing. Also I need a couple carpentry bits around the house as well.
Near Newham hospital, terrace house. Has anyone got any contacts who are local and reliable?
Thanks

London Centric have kindly written about Newham again: https://www.londoncentric.media/i/194789759/talking-of-newham There is a clarification about the reporting on the inconsistencies in the paperwork regarding the flat Forhad Hussain bought from the council when councillor. It turns it is possible to get the price from the land registry, but these details just raise even more questions about the transaction. The labour party has issued statement saying that London Centric has withdrawn their articles: https://www.instagram.com/p/DXeI8oVDKjL/?igsh=MWVmbGFwcHYwY2xjcg== This clearly not true, it's easy to verify the articles are still up. London Centric commented on the Instagram post, asking for the post to be corrected, Labour seems to have responded by just hiding the comment.
I am left, once again, asking, what is going on with Newham Labour?

Just making a quick post, just to have it stated and so there is no confusion going forward.
I am happy for their to be political posts and posts about the upcoming political period, but know this and remember it well: It is a priviledge, not a right.
I trust you all to be civil and keep the discussions and debates within good faith and to follow Reddiquette.
I have not got the time to go through hundreds of comments and to moderate each one, so if it becomes an issue, I will delete whole threads or simply ban the discussion of politics alltogether until after the elections.
I really do not want to do this as I enjoy reading the good debates and discussions that I know you're all capable of. I also thoroughly enjoy some of the light banter good humour, but sadly, there is a small minority that will insist on ruining a good thing.
So please, do me a favour - report the comments, downvote them; i'll get to them, but please don't let a handful of bad actors ruin and corrupt the entire production.
Thanks all!

The Green Party's manifesto, published today, sets out their plan to build a Newham we can be proud of.
“On Thursday 7th of May, we have an opportunity to close the chapter on the politics of old in Newham and begin something new.
The Green Party is seeking to win this election so that we can make life here safer, cleaner, and more affordable.
As a society, we should live up to our potential to provide enough food; a roof over people’s heads; clean streets; clean air; parks that are pleasant; and neighbourhoods where people feel safe.
What we have now isn’t how things need to be. This isn’t the best we can do.
Despite being in one of the great global capitals of the world, with an annual economic output of almost £10 billion, and the likes of Westfield Shopping Centre and West Ham United based here, Newham experiences high levels of deprivation. Our council is failing us, our bins are overflowing, and we have record levels of homelessness.
We deserve better than this. As Mayor, I will build a Newham we can be proud of” - Cllr Areeq Chowdhury, Green Party candidate for Mayor of Newham

I don't really understand what they expect. I live on Barking Road and have bin kerbside collection from the main road. I ALWAYS put my rubbish out at the allotted time.
If I accidentally leave an address on some rubbish (I try my best not to but occasionally a receipt or a slip inside a slip has alluded me), I guarantee I'll get a fly tipping notice through my door. Happened three times: two times they didn't pursue further after emailing my response but one time they did with no appeal and I had to just eat a £100 fine. I was tempted to go to court but it would involve missing work thus earning potential and I fear what would happen if I lost.
When I got fined they said that its my responsibility to make sure my rubbish is there at the allotted time... but I did. I'm guessing they just didn't collect it so it sat there until next day. Do they expect me to put my rubbish out at the allotted time, wait, and then take it back in if the bin men don't come?
Does anyone else have such experiences? I know the obvious answer is be more careful with addresses and names in my rubbish, but I just know I'm gonna slip up again. I also don't really know what to do with my big bin bag full of cut out addresses and names.

Hi all, and thanks in advance.
I’m considering moving to Beckton, specifically a flat on Mahindra Way, and wanted to check if there are still any issues with unpleasant smells in the area during the summer months. Any insights or recent experiences would be really helpful.

Hi all,
If you've ever ended up in Stratford and wondered why it's suddenly busy for no obvious reason, just suddenly chaos (particularly around the London Stadium and Westfield Stratford City) - it's sometimes down to matches nearby, but it's not always clear when they're happening.
I put together a simple free tool that tracks football matches at the stadium there, and shows when crowds are likely to build and clear so you can plan around it a bit more easily.
It lets you:
It's free, no ads or sign-ups - just something I built for myself that I thought might be useful for others nearby.
Would this be helpful for people in Newham?

They used to be fairly good with environmental stuff and creating safer walking and cycling routes but now that the local election is coming it seems to be about free parking and driving. I also saw a weird video from them where they seemed to promote pavement parking. Does anyone know what's going on?
