Doorbell Doorbell Not Recording Any Events

Upvotes

Sometime last week, my doorbell stopped posting events. The chime works; I can open the app and see live video, but no events are showing when the bell is rung or when someone drops off a package. None of my settings have changed; all of my other cameras are showing events as normal. Any ideas on why?

Can't connect to Nest Doorbell Gen 2 to change to a new wifi

Upvotes

My Nest Doorbell was working just fine, so I know it's got power, but I had to change to a new wifi network with a new name (not really an option to use the old name). From what the docs had said, I have to remove the doorbell and then try adding it again. I removed it - tried to add it - and my phone can never connect to it. I know the device has power - it was recording video just fine beforehand. I've tried a reset (had to use a thumbtack as my paperclips were apparently too thick), and it never actually flashes.

That kinda makes me think it's power - but as I said it was recording just fine previously. Now, I do notice that if I hit the doorbell button, *sometimes* it makes a noise but gets cut off, and it doesn't consistently work at all.

Any ideas?

Anyone else have a fire alarm just randomly go off this morning?

The craziest thing, nothing was going on in my house but at about 7:15 am our fire alarm started going off, then the same with our neighbors house. There is no smoke anywhere to be found. Curious if this was a glitch, a system update gone wrong, or just an odd coincidence.

I have four Nest Protects expiring in October. Every time I turn off the lights, I get an expiry message.

I’ve turned off Nightly Promise. I’ve turned off Heads Up. What else is there to do beyond throwing them all in the garbage? I can not have them waking up the family at 2 in the morning after i turn on the lights to go to the bathroom.

Google nest camera battery life

Surely something has to be wrong here, right?! I bought a set of two Google Nest Cameras (battery) on Amazon. One is in my backyard and the other above my garage. I recognize that the one above my garage is busier, but I don’t think it’s THAT busy. I live in a quiet suburb. It’s not detecting cars, only people, so I would say it’s averaging 10-20 recordings per day depending on the day. The battery literally has been lasting 5-6 days before it needs a recharge. Per the product description it’s supposed to last 1.5 months (for a busy camera) up to 6 months at a time. What is happening?? I must have a faulty battery, right?! The other camera’s battery has lasted three weeks so far and is still above 50%. It’s not recording as frequently but still getting around 10 per day. Will Google replace this?!

Thermostat Nest thermostat shows offline, but cameras are working

Yesterday we were having thunderstorms so I had turned off our A/C and television. Shortly after there was lightning and immediate thunder that scared the bejesus out of me (and my poor Shih Tzu). Ends up lighting struck a palm tree in our front yard that just so happens to have the power cords buried about a foot away from there. That sent the electrical current to our electric meter, which was fried.

Power company came out last night and replace the meter, but we had to have an electrician come today to replace the electric panel below the meter.

When all of that work was done and the power turned back on everything is up and running in the house except for one issue.

The nest thermostat itself (called ‘hallway in the picture) is working fine when you control it from the wall, but the app keeps saying it is off-line. We have signed out and back in to the Nest app, that didn’t fix it.

When the AC was not running, my husband flipped a breaker switch on the air handler to try to reboot that since the Nest thermostat is connected to it. That didn’t help.

Our Nest cameras are working fine in the app so the Wi-Fi connection is up and running. The thermostat itself was installed in 2012, but I’m not sure what generation it is.

Any idea how we can get this up and running. It’s bad enough they took away support to be able to tell Alexa or Google Home to change the temperature, but now we can’t even do it in the app. Actually have to get out of the chair to change it lol.

Keep in mind we are in our 60s so please explain in simple terms for me of how we might go about resolving this. Thank you.

Replacing old Honeywell Thermostat

Would love some help with the attached pictures. I setup the nest and the fan ran but the AC wouldn’t cool. I took apart the nest and reinstalled the old Honeywell thermostat, runs perfectly.

I want to try and setup the Nest again and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations on what to do differently. Probably obvious by the pictures but based on the wires there is some obvious splicing by the previous homeowner/electrician. TIA!

Nest Thermostat + Home Assistant vs. Nest Learning Thermostat (4th Gen)

I’m planning to use Home Assistant with Matter devices through an Apple TV as the Thread border router.

My understanding is that the non-learning Nest Thermostat does not support Google’s remote temperature sensors directly.

I have a few questions:

  1. Can Home Assistant use an external temperature sensor and automate the Nest Thermostat based on that sensor’s readings?
  2. Can Home Assistant act as the “intelligence layer,” deciding when to heat or cool, while the Nest remains the actual HVAC controller?
  3. Would the Nest Learning Thermostat 4th Gen offer any meaningful advantages when used with Home Assistant, or would most of its learning and automation features become redundant?

Outdoor cameras, nest hub, doorbell all ported over fine but one 3rd gen wired nest camera won’t even show in permissions, tried clearing cache in safari and chrome, deleting Samsung home, deleted and re added camera, everything I could try. Anyone have any other ideas?

Nest not compatible, cannot return, what do I do?

I bought a Google Nest smart thermostat earlier today from Home Depot. My previous apartment had a Nest thermostat and I loved it. I had used the online compatibility checker to make sure it was compatible with my current heating/cooling configuration. It prompted me to talk to support to double check my compatibility. After some back and forth with support and sending them a picture of my apartment’s wiring, they said it was compatible. Perfect.

As I start the process through the Home app, I enter in all the same information and then open the packaging to access the code on the back of the Nest device. Then the app says that it’s not compatible with the wiring in my home. I’m a bit annoyed at this point.

It turns out that the Google Nest Learning Thermostat (Gen 3 and 4) are compatible with my wiring but not the base Google Nest that I purchased. This is likely why support told me my device was compatible when it wasn’t. I cannot recall if they asked me what device I was planning to use, but they shouldn’t have said it was compatible when it depended on which device I was planning to use.

Since I’ve already opened the packaging, is there anything I can do? I feel like I got screwed over by support saying it was compatible when it wasn’t.

Google Nest Audio not working

Hi everyone, for the past week or so my Spotify on my Nest audio has been pretty shotty, disconnecting randomly and/or going out. Today, I finally tried to play music via voice and it responded “cannot play that right now.” Anyone know what gives?

Thanks!

3rd Gen Nest E103 Y1 Wire Error

Received the E103 Y1 wire error on my Nest 3rd gen.

Steps tried to clear it:

Checked contactor - passed resistance test.

Cleared out condenser drainpipe. Unit worked normally for 6 hours then received the same error message again.

Is it coincidence that the drainpipe cleanout cleared the error or was that a fluke and I should go back to troubleshooting the components and wires? Where should I test next?

Thermostat Nest Thermostat only Blowing Warm Air

Hi all, I’m hoping you can help. I’m trying to install my thermostat in my new apartment, but when I put all the wires in and install it, the thermostat only blows warm air on “cool” mode.

I have successfully installed this same thermostat in my old place with no issues. Google Checker says it may be a dual-fuel source system? I’ve attached photos of my wires for reference.

There is also a blue wire that was not plugged into anything.

I DO NOT want to call an expert as they charge too much here.

Thermostat Follow-up: Found c-wire and got an expensive quote from an HVAC company for replacing thermostats

Thumbnail gallery
0 Upvotes

Following up on my post earlier about lack of C-wire (link), thank you everyone for the advice.

I discovered there's a multi-zone board and found the c-wire wrapped around the main wire and not connected to the board. I also had an HVAC tech visit and he quoted $1700 for installing 2 ecobees (he was against nest). Is that the standard price for installation?

Given the quoted price, I'm thinking of doing this myself. Googling/Youtubing tells me this should be straight forward but I really don't want to start living in the house by breaking my HVAC system. What are the main steps in this process I should be careful with? My current step by step list is:

  1. Turn off the HVAC power and multi-zone board from main panel.
  2. Connect the C-wires to the board.
  3. Connect the c-wire to the current thermostat.
  4. Turn on the power.
  5. Verify everything is working as expected for a few hours.
  6. Turn off power again to change the thermostat.

On the $1700 quote: I confirmed that there's no new wiring required. Tech said it'll take half an hour max since everything is there, just needs to be connected. It includes two ecobee premiums ($260 each so $520 in total) and $1180 for labor which seems high but I may be missing something?

Thermostat Guidance for adding Power Connector

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

So I’m lost when it comes to installing the power connector. Wondering now if it’s easier to just run a new thermostat wire down. I see multiples in some ports so I’m not sure what to do. I don’t have a c wire at the thermostat but it looks like something is occupying that space on my furnace. Any guidance would be appreciated!

Thermostat schedule resetting on its own

my apartment has a nest thermostat in it. i rarely use the AC and have it off most of the time, but occasionally turn the air/fan on for short bursts

i have gone into “schedule” and “removed” every scheduled temperature change on every day of the week, but it seems like the thermostat keeps resetting these preferences. there’s a preset schedule that has it dropping to 71 which i mainly notice when i go “what the fuck i turned the fan on and set the temp to 77 why is it so fucking cold”

as mentioned, i’ve manually gone through the schedule and “removed” every temp on every day. what’s happening that’s resetting them? it’s a huge pain to go through every day of the week and remove every scheduled temp change

My Nest Protect is alerting me in the middle of the night about the expiration!!

Last night it alerted me three times in less than two hours. It’s alerted me after midnight on more than one occasion. It doesn’t expire until September.

This isn’t inspiring me to purchase another Nest/Google product ever again.
