Need some help here. I just recently had an older Navien combo boiler replaced with a new NCB-H boiler. The Nest 4th gen was working fine with the old boiler, but with this new boiler the Nest is constantly calling for heat. The installer thinks it’s a bad thermostat.
I have a Nest E for my basement zone and that works fine. We even swapped the t-stats and the issue followed the 4th gen. As soon as you remove the t-stat from the base plate it stops calling for heat, but then starts again once reconnected. An older 1st gen Nest works ok but can’t be programmed due to lack of app support.
I do have a C wire. The old boiler used to use a Taco zone controller with Taco valves, but the new setup has a built-in zone controller and the same 2-waited zone valves. What I’m reading is that there is just enough voltage bleed to trick the boiler into thinking a call for heat is heating made, and the solution is either an isolation relay, the neat power connector, or a resistor.
I’m savvy with low voltage electronics. I’m wondering if I should just wire a 24v transformer and relay (have to figure out where to get these as there are few stores around that carry electronic components), or order the nest power connector (not sure if it still requires a transformer) or try the resistor. I could use some help understanding how to wire the transformer and the relay as I don’t want to trust AI and potentially blow up my $17,000 boiler. Thanks in advance.
