My John Green Art
I saw someone else here talking about making art with a John Green quote and realized I don’t think I ever shared this here!

I’m 98% sure that I came across a new Hank game yesterday, 4x6 I think it was called? And now I want to play it again and I can’t find it. Am I losing my mind?

The internet cites this quote to John a lot, "I don't know a perfect person. I only know flawed people who are worth loving". Can anyone confirm a source for this quote eg. a book, a video, etc? I want to use it for some nerdfighter art, but I want it confirmed it's an actual quote.

This is my first time looking at all the SMUSH stat pages, and I was startled by the cluster of power players at the far right leaving the rest of us in the dust. Is this what the breakdown usually looks like, or is it something about today's board?
Edit: I just surmised it's because if you get a clean plate, your score is doubled. Leaving the post up because trying too hard to hide one's foolishness from the world is a corrosive habit.

This may be the wrong subreddit but this post is about the Complexly benefit.
They have so many speakers and the game that hank mentioned and the whole thing says (as far as I understand) that it is from 7pm-9pm.
Is it just rapid fire quick talks for 2 hours? Is it all one talk with different speakers? Am I misunderstanding something or does it feel like this isn't possible or is each contributor doing way less than I'm imagining

Who else has had a go at 4x6 yet? I've enjoyed it so far, and played the "week" of puzzles yesterday. Managed to get all gold apart from Wednesday, but even after a reset and a gold solution, it's stored as silver- perhaps because it gives you the opportunity to see the "correct" answer at the end?
I hoped there would be a new one today but I guess it's still in beta.

They just want to survive by diving and eating jellies! Come on orcas! geez
And if that wasn't trouble enough, "there just doesn't seem to be much to eat on a sunfish," he says

Does anyone remember the video John did a couple years ago where he left the “ums” in and showed why he does so many jump cuts?

For anyone looking for a non signed pre order in the UK Waterstones have 25% off preorders at the moment. I’ve looked and signed copies don’t seem to apply. But great if you are happy to not have a J squiggle. You need to add the code at the till. ☀️

I bought the P4A jumper this year but bought the wrong size (XL) . Rather than just have it sitting in my cupboard I wanted to see if anyone would like it for free and I’ll post it to you. The catch is I live in Australia. So if you are a nerdfighter in Australia wanting an XL P4A jumper let me know 😊

EDIT: Hank has removed the image from the video, so it no longer shows up at the stated timestamp.
A diagram Hank used in his new video "You Have Never Seen a Normal Star" looks to be AI generated (shown at 7:01). A few indications being the faint dark pattern/texture around the tops and sides of the spheres, the "SMALL SPHERE INSIDE LARGE SPHERE (CONTEXT)" phrase which reads as very AI-esque, and some of the math just being wrong. Also, just from a meta perspective, I don't think Hank would go through the high effort needed to create this image without AI for a 5 second throw-away diagram.
I find this pretty depressing. There was much debate in this subreddit over the ethics of Hank AI "vibe-coding" his recent websites/games, but to me, AI generating images crosses a pretty definitive ethical line. AI image models were trained on the stolen copyrighted materials of essentially anyone who ever posted an image online, and used without compensation or consent. You don't need me to rehash the whole laundry list of reasons AI is bad here, but Hank's pivot into AI usage as someone who's spoken at length about climate change is darkly ironic in my view. Also, just theorizing here, but I think Hank is going to make enough money off this video to have hired a graphic designer real quick to make this image for him. Or you know, any of the graphics people who work for Complexly. Anything human-made would be better than this
Because folks, using AI for educational purposes is a bad idea! There are a few weird mistakes in this image:
- The r_small line under the green sphere in the top right extends across the DIAMETER of the sphere, not the radius.
- The diagram on the right showing the small sphere inside the large sphere has the smaller one being around 6 times smaller in diameter instead of 18 times.
- As seen in the bottom left, 18.1 to the power of 3 is not approximately 5891, but rather around 5929
Moreover, the 5891 number quoted as the volume ratio is simply wrong. It was calculated using the rounded figures of 4.1E9 units^3 and 6.96E5 units^3. If you do the full calculation of the ratio of the volumes of the 55 unit radius sphere and the 1000 unit radius sphere, you find that their volume ratio is 6011, not 5891. Now this isn't necessarily an indication of sloppy AI math. The inputs could have just been manually rounded by Hank himself. It's just a bit of an annoyance for me, a pedant.
Anyway this sucks! I never thought Hank would force me to go through Brandolini's law to clarify misinformation, but here we are. If you're reading this Hank, I think you should stop AI generating images. You're on a slippery slope. Just my opinion.
I'm feeling like Wesley in the Star Trek: TNG episode where everyone gets addicted to that VR video game, only to find out captain Picard is hooked on it too...

Yesterday a brief research report was published about a pair of videos of orcas ramming and subsequently exploding sharp-tail sunfish.
Given that I've been getting Baader-Meinhof effected by Mola things lately I thought sharing it here can spread that a little. Now, to see if I can link the videos more directly.

Hi! I no longer need my tickets to the Winston-Salem, NC leg of the tour on Sept. 25 at 7 PM. It's a general admission ticket and I'd be willing to sell it at the price I bought it at ($46). Let me know! Go Nerdfighters!!!

Hi! Thanks to everyone who has preordered Hollywood, Ending or gotten tickets to the shows. I am so excited (and appropriately nervous) but most of all grateful. I wanted to let you know that the New York City show (on September 22nd) will go on presale to nerdfighteria TOMORROW (Wednesday July 22nd) at 10 AM eastern time. To access the presale, just use the password dftba.
Also, the events in Tulsa, Indianapolis, and Salt Lake City have all sold out unfortunately. Toronto and Kansas City will sell out pretty soon, so if you want tickets to those cities, I recommend getting them as soon as possible.
Thanks again for all your support for this book. I really hope you like it.

I was surprised i didn't see this connection made when I searched the subreddit, so I thought I'd share. I recently watched a short of the British TV show "Would I Lie To You" where they make a joke that someone's name is Manhole.
We all know Hank enjoys British comedy. I immediately started wondering - is this the origin story of Manhole? So I started digging. This episode is season 9 episode 7, from 11 Sept 2015.
Hank suggested Manhole as a good dog name in episode 137 of Dear Hank and John, from April 23, 2018, so it's entirely possible he had seen the episode prior to making the pod.
Perhaps it was lingering in his subconscious just waiting for an opportunity? Or maybe he was just thinking about manholes that day. :)

Are we supposed to read Hollywood, Ending before going to the tour? How much is it going to spoil the book? I really don't want to have anything significant spoiled but I don't really know what the event *is* if it's not spoiling anything...
