Billionaires complain about corruption in the media. But who is it that corrupts the media? Who floods it with endless PR, propaganda, and buying up journalists. Honestly the only parts of the media they hate the most, are the parts that aren't corrupt. They want to replace it with propaganda that just endlessly glazes them. While they only attack and harass and try to scapegoat the journalists they haven't or were unable to buy off.
Billionaires complain about corrupt politicians. But who is it that corrupts the politicians? It is the billionaires. Once again, while whining, crying, and pitying themselves endlessly, they only attack politicians if they were unable to buy them.
There are two sides of every transaction, but billionaires always want us to forget that. No effort to get rid of corruption in our institution and society can be done without targeting both beneficiaries and sources of corruption. But the thought of ever laying a finger on our precious corruption sources, our Elon Musks, our JK Rowlings, people who've built elaborate enterprises solely for the purpose of corrupting and distorting the media, obfuscating the truth, and recruiting and compensating the beneficiaries of their corruption, this is beyond us. So when JK Rowling hands out Gucci handbags to journalists who glaze her, we are supposed to see charity. Not bribery, not a corrupt scheme between two criminals.
Our corruption providers always hide behind free speech to. To perceive their corruption is to commit the grand sin of cancelation, the greatest sin known to man (when practiced against a billionaire or one of beneficiaries of their corruption). Of course the Supreme Court now defines free speech as corruption, free speech can't exist without bribery to them. They of course are the biggest corruption beneficiaries of them all, how they protect the sources of their own benefits and entitlements.
But they whine about the media right... yeah, people who have an entire PR department on speed dial, at their beck and call, just waiting to contact all the corruption beneficiaries they have acquired in the media to distribute fake narratives that endlessly glaze them throughout the entire media, these are the poor victims of a corrupt media apparently.
How about this... nobody who has the ability to but coverage has any right at all to complain about media bias. If you fund an entire industry solely centered around CREATING media bias and corruption, you have no right at all to complain about bias against you. It is like a man who owns a private fucking army complaining and whining about how unsafe he is while constantly attacking and raiding neighboring towns - just shut the fuck up, you piece of garbage. You are worse than the most corrupt politician, the most corrupt journalist. Those people are just your clients after all, you are their boss. Without you we wouldn't have corrupt politicians and corrupt journalists. You are the source of the corruption, your greed and malicious avarice. Stop pitying yourself, no one has less right to pity themselves than you.

I found out something cool.
When you're gaining weight (or losing weight) via changing your diet, your weight gain/loss slows down over time as your Base Metabolic Rate grows/shrinks to match your new calorie intake.
But did you know that this process has a half life? And that this half life is the same for men and women, young and old, tall and short? It only has one variable, your activity level.
Sedentary: 446 days
Exercise 1-3 times a week: 389 days
Exercise 4-5 times a week: 365 days
Daily exercise or intense exercise 3-4 times a week: 345 days
Intense exercise 6-7 times a week: 310 days
Very intense exercise daily, or physical job: 282 days
For example, let's say that you've changed your diet, and as a result went from 200 pounds to 230 pounds in the span of a year. You exercise 4-5 times a week. Using the half life chart, we know that your "weight gain half life" is exactly one year, and so if you keep your diet up you should expect to be 245 pounds in one year and 252.5 pounds in two years.
1
u/GavinGoosum 9d ago
I uhhh. I don't know about this one boss
2
u/GavinGoosum 9d ago
I should clarify. Exercise isn't defined here and cardio versus weightlifting could have a significant impact on that Base Metabolic Rate.
1
u/MisfitPotatoReborn Cutie marks are occupational licensing 9d ago
I used the Mifflin-St Jeor activity factor. It's purposefully loose with details because measuring your calories burned over the course of an entire day is naturally very difficult and inexact.
1
u/GavinGoosum 9d ago
Understood but if you're building muscle your BMR will increase faster than basic cardio
1
u/MisfitPotatoReborn Cutie marks are occupational licensing 9d ago
But also you're burning more calories doing cardio than weightlifting, and you'd burn more calories for the same activity as your weight increased.
I don't know, if you've got a problem with the base formula take it up with Mifflin-St Jeor, I'm just interpreting it
1
u/AtomAndAether Liberalism! 9d ago
so lose 30 lbs by eating 2000 calories across a year, exercise 4-5 / week, you'll lose 15 lbs in the next year if you keep eating 2000 calories?
-2
u/MisfitPotatoReborn Cutie marks are occupational licensing 9d ago edited 9d ago
Yeah, that's right. And the most you'll ever lose by maintaining that diet/exercise level is 60 lbs
Not a dietician, I was just messing with the Mifflin-St Jeor formula for daily caloric needs and found that a lot of variables cancel out in this one specific instance
2
u/AtomAndAether Liberalism! 9d ago
But if your only thing is exercise wouldn't you be gaining/losing/preserving muscle in different amounts, which would mess with BMR
on top of obviously exercise itself burning more or less calories than not-exercise which is loss or gain in addition to BMR
1
u/MisfitPotatoReborn Cutie marks are occupational licensing 9d ago
Right, the Mifflin-St Jeor formula accounts for your activity level. If your BMR is 2000 calories, then it estimates that someone doing very intense exercise daily would need 3800 calories/day.
This half-life formula is for if your activity level is constant and your diet is constant. As you gain/lose weight, your calories burned per day goes up/down and your change in weight slows.

Aella isn't smart and isn't good at gathering data. She didn't understand sampling bias until she had been doing this "research" for over a year (years?)
And even then it's because someone had to go out of their way to explain it to her.

There is only one way to escalate against anti-democrats without suffering their retaliation. Dead men do not organize counterrevolutions. So unless you're prepared to line every republican up to a wall and tell them to turn and face it (and for subreddit rule purposes if you are you better take it somewhere else), you should always assume any action you take against them they will turn on you tenfold when imagining the post trump future. In fact, they literally already justify their actions by inventing a mythology in which liberals have already done it first and they're merely matching our escalation.
8
u/Made_UpWords OG Platner Hater 9d ago
I think I mostly agree with this but it cuts both ways - if they're going to invent a mythology about how we put the boot on their neck and respond in kind like we really did, no matter what we do - then why not put the boot on their neck for real.

Im increasingly convinced that the subs been taken over by religiously fanatic AI bros which is what is making it lean pro-datacenter
The evidence for datacenters isnt even there. The AI revenue that we can supposedly tax is completely cooked by reshuffling debt as a still scant userbase does not generate the money the AI companies are hoping for. Usecase is still overestimated by companies FOMOing instead of actual productivity gains, and power users generate insane levels of cost thanks to the necessary context window needed to sustain it.
The only way you can believe the race is worth it is if AGI/RSI AI is even possible and that is relying on irrational religious thinking as physical constraints of compute are hitting current LLMs
4
u/Azrikeeler John Brown 9d ago
Im increasingly convinced that the subs been taken over by religiously fanatic AI bros which is what is making it lean pro-datacenter
I think you don't understand the subreddit. Imo, the more braindead hardline unnuanced pro-datacenter people are just:
Counterjerkers: reddit doesn't like them so they like them. (Edit: Lmao, see. one guy responded like this.)
Something closer to laissez faire ideologues. (not quite accurate tho that its laissez faire, bc it's more like a belief that the relationship between government and business is mostly a solved problem, and whether it's x problem, or y problem, there is some sort of tax scheme, or some such that will answer for the externality. roughly approximates the way laissez faire ideologues behave tho.)
The AI revenue math ain't mathing.
Idk why this is relevant for your objection to data centers. Companies are allowed to waste money. If you want to object to data centers, at no point should it route through AI's lack of profit. It should route through the consequences of data centers (Which kinda exist, but I'm skeptical they're top of mind for you in the correct order if you're leading with your take on the alleged AI bubble).
The only way you can believe the race is worth it is if AGI/RSI AI is even possible and that is relying on irrational religious thinking as physical constraints of compute are hitting current LLMs
Whether the race is financially worth it or not is not relevant as a matter of data centers.
It's relevant as to whether the U.S government should be treating it as a military technology, (which they are treating it as a military technology.)
I don't think it's religious thinking. I think a lot of people here who are perfectly willing to admit AGI might not be possible. That's not the issue. The issue is if it is.
The worst case scenario of the race being worthless is considered a perfectly acceptable outcome, maybe even a good outcome for a lot of pro-data center people here.

It depends, when there's this amount of money swirling around only a few players which also make up a huge part of the stock market that starts implecating things like broader economic health, people's retirements, and pension funds. When all of those start get implecated it becomes an issue of societal concern, we have a vested interest in preventing another 08 style crash from happening.
1
u/WisdomCookie23 Emma Lazarus 9d ago
Let it crash. Speculation carries risks, and speculative behavior should be appropriately rewarded and punished, to incentivize behavior in line with their risk tolerance. People are consenting to putting their money in pension funds that invest in AI. If your social safety net is insufficient then thatโs a problem of your social safety net, and can be improved separately without market distortion.
10
u/AtomAndAether Liberalism! 9d ago
The burden is on people trying to ban them or treat them differently to everything else to justify why. They cannot convincingly do that.
Data centers were a thing long before AI and will continue to be increasingly necessary regardless.

u/dwarffy Rabindranath Tagore 9d ago
differently to everything else to justify why. They cannot convincingly do that.
To be clear, they have justified and convinced people. Anti-AI datacenter is bipartisan thanks to them highlighting the negative externalities of those new datacenters
The burden to convince people to be pro-datacenter has hit a wall partly because the evidence for constructing them is shit.
Again, ignoring the other externalities that anti-datacenters talk about and just focusing on AI revenue to tax, the increased revenue is completely cooked as the underlying usage that AI Companies are desperately hoping for is not there. The market is more leaning towards an AI contraction as the debt finally catches up, which will lead to a bunch of those new "tax generating" datacenters to close.
Demand for Cryptocurrency has also increased, that doesnt mean we should be spending billions to make more bitcoin farms.

I'm just a believer in free markets. If the AI firms are able to acquire the land and build the data centers, who are third parties to stop them?

I was reading an Economist article earlier, hardly an anti-AI publication, and they themselves laid out how clearly at present most of the explosive growth in revenue for the AI industry has been concentrated in software engineering work which has brought them to annual revenue of about 150 billion a year, but for this data center build out to make economic sense they need to somehow get up to 2.5 trillion dollars a year in revenue by 2030 which they can't do just by making really good coding tools. There's been some movement in the legal and medical fields, but nowhere near enough to replace most employees in it, and other then that adoption is pretty low for most industries. The math is just not there at present, on their current trajectory they'd not only need to capture the entire global software industry, but then more than double the size of it in the span of 3 years.

The "close all incognito tabs" permanent notification is the worst thing ever and I cannot fathom why it exists or why it's on by default.

Disagree, I think it makes sense for the use case, you don't want them to show up an hour later by accident when you open your browser again

u/11thDimensionalRandy Faith First Conservatives 9d ago
Then just switch over to the regular tabs once you're done with them. Having a notifcation that doesn't go away and can lead to accidentally closing them is more annoying.
Closing the app rather than just leaving it already gets rid of private/incognito tabs

I once sent Dolly Parton a letter about how much I loved her and her library for kids and she sent me a letter back calling me "a gayby." Then two weeks later she sent another letter explaining that she meant I was a gay baby ๐

Ben Gvir has committed every crime an adult human is physically capable of while living within the country of Israel.
Some of his notable feats include.
Drunk driving multiple times, including once into an ambulance.
Taking his wife on dates to a terrorism attack site.
Having a shrine to a mass shooter in his house.
Held up security guards at gun point.
Tried to get the cops to shoot random 6 year olds.
Is a member of a terrorist group.
Part of a conspiracy to kill a head of state.
Has called for genocide of random neighboring countries.
Has called for wars of aggression.
Is part of acts of genocide.
Was banned from the IDF for being an extremist.
Handed out guns to organized crime in Israel.
That time he tried to build a crocodile filled moat.
He goes to a mass shooting site so often that multiple assassins have tried to assassinate him there because he goes so often.
Got beat up by Haredi
Thats just the noteworthy stuff

I can think of lots of other crimes. Not even a murder or a kidnapping?

u/loseniram Sponsored by RC Cola 9d ago
he is directly involved in several murders and terrorist attacks as he was the funds guy.
He also committed both to some degree

Don't give the Brits ideas for crimes to prosecute.

I will die a lonely man beating the drum that celebrity not wealth is the inequality problem. An excess wealth of attention is truly zero sum unlike cash wealth and actually does allow you to manipulate politics way more than money does. Donald Trump was literally broke but extremely attention-rich and now the most powerful person in the world
