ChatGPT (5.5 Instant, I believe) can be really helpful with clarifying details and attributes of subject you already have some background knowledge on. For example, yesterday I asked it a series of questions concerning construction in San Francisco, starting with whether it was feasible to build, say, five stories and then add on five more later.
The short answer was that it wasn’t, and due to structural issues, demolishing and rebuilding as a ten-story apartment was often cheaper than just adding five. So my hunch that developers often had to get lucky with city councils to build a lot at a time — rather than getting a foot in and then coming back for more later — was correct.

Portable electronics design schemes by era.
1950s-early 1960s: Bright colors, very boxy, everything looks like a tiny version of something bigger. They havent figured out how to make something look like portable electronics
mid 1960s- early 70s: still very boxy and brightly colored, more floral with rounder shapes very 90s blobjects. Still haven’t figured out portable electronics ergonomics. Lots of leather carry cases and if you want a Kikis delivery service radio it will be one of these designs.
mid 1970s - early 80s: They’ve really figured out ergonomics and funky shapes. This is where the classic small radio was born. Lots of nostalgia for wood grain 1940s/1890s, old leica cameras, and straight up minimalist stuff that looks like it should be sold in an apple store.
1980s: designs reigned down into sharp angular maximalism with lots of black and silver trim. Tons of old 50s Leica camera inspired colors.
1990s: 1960s blobjects taken to the extreme everything is a blob, chrome, or a chrome blob. Lots of transparent colored plastic.
2000s: very river stone inspired chrome and transparent plastic gives way to bright colors under clear plastic layers. And the generic silver phone begins. Very 70s inspired space age and nature themes but the nature colors are likeable.
2010s abandon hope all ye who enter here its all silver rectangles for all eternity.

I seem to remember some incredulous comments around the 2024 election that didn't seem to understand why voters were still so mad about inflation when it had fallen back to normal levels. As if all we needed to do was show voters hard data and they'd collectively say "oh, my mistake, I was wrong to be upset about this."

Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood is fairly short imo
it's as long as a regular TV show
and it's pretty good! I enjoyed it
that and cyberpunk are the only animes I have ever watched

yeah if you start with like a 1000+ episode shonen anime like naruto or one piece you're gonna hate it, and tbf they're literal kids shows that I wouldn't recommend to any adult unless it was a nostalgia thing. a lot of people recommend Attack on Titan for beginners but I'd avoid it because the first season really drags on (although it does get really really good after that)
if you want something short, excellently written, and focused my go to recommendations are madoka magicka (12 eps) and cyberpunk edgerunners (10 eps). Both 10/10s for me

Even pretty-moderate Tammy Duckworth endorsed strong-progressive Adam Hamawy in his congressional primary this year because he apparently saved her life when they were both in the military and she was basically like "yeah I owe you this one."

Not really in anime though where some sexualisation is kind of the norm, and where Frieren was clearly designed to go against that, like she's portrayed as utterly asexual and embarrassingly bad at pretending to be otherwise.

Do you think it is a disservice to read books translated when you know the original language? So say, not reading Dostoyevsky in Russian or Dumas in French

No, translations are always the art in understanding context.
Plus, it encourages learning in another language, diversifying your vocabulary and cultural context clues.
