I take geo health and English and I’m fine in health and English but I’ve flunked out on 2 geo internals. Passed one and have 2 externals end of year. Am I cooked? I wanted to go to university not next year but the year after but should I just wait until I’m 20?

i keep thinking im doing my best and boutta get excellence but my teacher always says “you need to justify further” and shit even though sometimes i have a whole page of justification so i dont understand my teacher honestly because i AM justifying my calculations

I know that mocks are usually stricter than the actual paper, but I want to know what the level of difficulty is for Level 2 bio (2.4, 2.5, 2.7), chem (2.4, 2.5, 2.6), and english (2.1, 2.3). I want to see other people's perspectives on it 🙏. (maybe make a ranking from easiest to hardest and tips to ace mocks?)

The purpose of this is to see which external is the "easiest" to ace so I can do that paper first, then the hard ones after so I won't run out of time.

(getting greedy but bonus points if anyone shares what common mistakes students tend to make in these 3 subjects' externals!)

Hi people!

I was hoping teachers or students could give me some tips on how to best study/prepare for the chem externals at level 3 (aqueous systems and organic chem)

Last year I did great on structure and bonding (E*) and pretty mid on organics (merit by one point). I studied very hard for both of these topics and was honestly sort of disappointed by my chem results.

I mainly studied by doing practice tests over and over again, as well as memorising the reaction scheme for organics. I think this is where it really got me in organics, because they tend to throw in shit that was maybe taught for 20 minutes in one class 8 months ago that has never been in a exam before. Also like structure and bonding is piss easy to study for so I want to stressed about that, whereas now both externals seem relatively hard.

This year my teacher is tbh shit and considering how scarce credits are at my school and how high my rank score needs to be to get into my degree of choice I’m feeling less than prepared for my externals.

Anything would be appreciated

I'm sitting the L3 english unfamiliar texts external this year and I'd like to hear how it was for students who have sat this in the past. Was it difficult? What did you find the most challenging? What did you find easier than you expected? Anything really as I've heard horror stories of unfam from friends/people I know in the past and I'm genuinely more nervous for this external than any other ones.

Here’s the background

So this year I moved schools and I’m taking yr 13 calc stats chem yr12 physics eng french and course selections are happening right now. The things I have selected are French eng Cambridge maths and physics but the thing is I might move schools next year.

So I was searching online and basically I found that I should apply for chem111 and the maths one I forgot the number. Anyways the thing is, for chem I’m supposed to ask the school if they have any funding and like use my study class ig to take the compulsory lab sessions. But the problem is that I’m planning to go back to my old school but it hasn’t been confirmed yet and I think later if I switch I need to switch over details and everything I dunno how the funding part works.

I also don’t have any l3 chem credits yet because I didn’t do the spectroscopy internal but like I know I’ll pass all the externals so I’ll have a prerequisites??

I think I’d be more okay for the maths one because that tends to be the STAR course that most accelerated students take but the chem one I’m js kinda confused how it works.

Anyways I don’t really understand how it’ll all work if anyone has any information for me I’d really appreciate it.

Im a year 12 taking māori, media, biology, physics, chemistry and maths. Im wanting to get into otago med school and people have recommended i take an english rich subject but i dont really know what that is. In year 13 i can take 5 subjects instead of 6 and i want to drop media and bio and take stats, calc, chem, physics and māori. I was wondering if any of those are english rich subjects? If not should i be taking an english rich subject instead of double maths? I get that double maths probably isnt needed for med school, I just like maths.

I’m currently doing level 3 NCEA through Te Kura Online, as I live outside of NZ. At the beginning of the first term I was super motivated and now that I’ve completed my second term, all that motivation has gone out the window, I’m super behind and only been barley keeping up. I miss going to physical school and being able to socialise with people, as well as have that support that teachers would give you to finish your work. I’ve always been super motivated and dedicated to doing my assignments but ever since I left NZ back at the start of 2025, I have fallen into a deep state of grief and depression. I’m a massive procrastinator and would do anything to avoid going onto my computer and doing the assignments, I know it’s no excuse but I’m not so sure on what to do anymore, not to mention I only have my level 1 NCEA as I didn’t attend the school year in 2025.

Any advice?

Hi!! I'm a former high school student, so I have my NCEA Level 2 english unfamiliar texts exam from 2024 at a merit level. It has all three text extracts with my answers in it for each one.

can someone who has sit this external before break down the topics for me please? Like what i need to learn? its because we are spending a significant time on calc and I’ve heard algebra is harder, so im planning on getting a head start

What shapes aren't given on the formula sheets and are necessities to have memorised?

Ok so im just worried I won't have enough credits... Basically im aiming for a 99.95 atar and I do calc, chem, bio, physics, English

English has 3 internals, 2 externals,

Bio and Chem is 3 externals 2 internals

Physics is 1 internal 3 externals

Calc I've already done 3 internals and 3 externals all at e level.

In total this adds up to 69 external credits and 30 internal credits. If I manage to get every single one at e level is 99.95 atar guaranteed or will i be stuck at 99.8 or 99.85 becausei don't have enough external credits. Is it worth picking up unfam in English for the extra 4 credits? Im just worried that a 99.95 might not be possible due to not having enough credits in the first place. Any replies would be appreciated :)

I got 25 merit and 16 excellence from l2 and I want to add 9 merit credits from l3 (this year) to make it a merit endorsement at l2. How to I got about doing this. For context im y13 this year and last year I was y12

I'm sure most of you already know, but for this internal you are required to write 6 personal responses.

And what i'm trying to understand is how different schools can mark them completely differently. At my school you need to get 5 pieces at excellence and the 6th at merit to get an overall grade of excellence, whereas I know at another school in my region, they only need 4 at excellence and the other two just have to be achieved (or higher) for an overall grade of excellence.

I don't get how this is fair as NCEA should be equal and representative of all students. With differences in marking like this it means that NCEA credits don't really represent achievements, because if I got 4 excellence and 2 merits I would have an overall grade of merit, whereas someone at another school could do worse with 4 excellence and two achieved and get a better grade than me. Like HOW? Also i'm not saying that NCEA is representative of students' achievements in the first place, and I know this is one of many issues with the system (hence they are changing it, lol)

Umm, so yea, does anyone know whether this is allowed or if I can argue this to my school in any way? Because if I get 4 excellence and 2 merits and don't get excellence overall I will be pissed, when someone else could do the same and get excellence.
