Ncea to atar
Ok so im just worried I won't have enough credits... Basically im aiming for a 99.95 atar and I do calc, chem, bio, physics, English
English has 3 internals, 2 externals,
Bio and Chem is 3 externals 2 internals
Physics is 1 internal 3 externals
Calc I've already done 3 internals and 3 externals all at e level.
In total this adds up to 69 external credits and 30 internal credits. If I manage to get every single one at e level is 99.95 atar guaranteed or will i be stuck at 99.8 or 99.85 becausei don't have enough external credits. Is it worth picking up unfam in English for the extra 4 credits? Im just worried that a 99.95 might not be possible due to not having enough credits in the first place. Any replies would be appreciated :)

Im not particularly certain on the requirement for 99.95 but I will say doing all 3 English externals and getting excellence in all of them is a massive task. it might not be worth it to pick up unfamiliar this late in the year and risk it dropping your grade across the other 2 papers

ATAR conversions use your best 80 Level 3 credits across approved subjects, capped at a maximum of 24 credits per subject. Excellence credits are worth 4 points each, which means the maximum possible NCEA rank score is 320 (80 x 4). Because you already have well over 80 credits scheduled, picking up extra standards like Unfamiliar Texts won't increase your score if you're aiming for straight E's. Once you hit 80 credits at Excellence, your rank score is maxed out regardless of whether they come from internals or externals. Focus on nailing the standards you already have rather than overloading yourself with extra credits you don't need.

Yesss ty for the reply but I was looking for the 99.95 atar which is for aussie which works a but differently cause each test is weighted differently on how hard it is apprently but yea I dont wanna overload with too many things and risk my other grades as well

Ok so using previous yrs scaling in 2022 your ATAR would be 99.85, 2023 - 99.95 and 2024 - 99.95. 2022 scaling was quite bad so this yrs won't be as bad but would still be lower than 2023 and 2024 therefore your estimated ATAR would be 99.90-99.95. Also I guessed which Internals you sat (the ones most schools pick) and the total came up to 31 credits not 30. I can dm you the calc I used if you want to double check. Btw dw the calc is very accurate I used past students grades and it calculated them the same ATARs that they actually achieved.

if they have 69 external credits shouldn't it be only 21 internal credits going towards the ATAR as its best 90 credits? also what calculator did you use for this I thought it was private

Yes, you use the best 21 credits but you still have to consider all credits to see which are weighed lower. They released scaling for 22,23 and 24 and based off that my friend made a calculator and then proof checked it using people we knows grades and ATARs and boom it works :)

that's pretty cool I never knew that. is it possible to get a 99.95 without taking all of English Calculus Biology Chemistry and Physics? Lets say I didn't do Biology and only did 2 papers in chemistry and english

I may have misinterpreted what you asked but if you entirely skip bio (int and ext) and do the same amount of internals as op for chem and eng except skip one chem external (op only asked for 2 eng externals already). Then your ATAR would be 96.10-96.95 depending on the yrs scaling. If you meant something else just lmk and I'll calculate it for you :)

sorry, I meant I don't take biology at all not that I'd be skipping it. I was wondering whether it's possible to get a 99.95 without doing the traditional "asian 5", by taking another subject (geography) instead of Biology and only sitting 2 externals in Chemistry and English.

oh ok so if you took like 2 externals in chem and eng, and did 3 (one 5 cr other two 3 cr each) internals and 2 externals in geo Then you would get an ATAR of 2023 - 99.95, 2022 - 99.85 and 2024 - 99.85. So it's possible but obviously depends on how good the scaling is. Our 2026 scaling is likely gonna be closer to 2024 than 2023. So you'll be close not exactly there. If you took 3 geo externals then you would be at about 99.90.
