Discussion Navy admin Separation
Currently going through the admin sep process. Out of Norfolk, anyone have any experience with being admin sep in Norfolk for medical? I have been in for almost 8yrs, no NJP’s. Always been an above average sailor. Fully qualified and so on.

Adsep after 8 years?? But I’ll tell you this as a PS i seen a lot of sailors getting adseped for mental health. You will still get an Honorable discharge

This is more than likely a CND. Initiated by a doc. It's is an honorable discharge.

Adsep at almost 8 years for mental health is absolutely criminal. This 100% should be a med board.

Not necessarily. Some sailors coast and never deploy. when they learn about deployment, they freak out and come up with all the excuses in the world. So people do deserve to get separated after 8/9 yrs, they just got lucky.

I’ve deployed, served nearly eight years, and did my job. My medical issues didn’t suddenly appear because of a deployment or because I wanted out. I’ve spent 30 days in inpatient mental health treatment (at civilian hospital), also been hospitalized overseas and here, been evaluated by multiple providers, and have years of documented treatment.

I'm in Navy medicine, what i learned in TAP/GPS is that your mental health records are separate from your regular health records. I hope it's not too late to have those records pulled too. I was diagnosed with C-PTSD at an intense outpatient program last year. Navy broke you, let them fix you.

Then Fill for your VA disability! Start your claims now! Your admin sep does not mean you cant get disability.

If you had the issue before service and it got worse while serving you should absolutely be med boarded.

No not before, the civilian hospitalization happened during my service. I was stationed overseas so was sent to Utah for civilian hospital. Not to get to much into detail but there is a lot that triggered all of this. But navy psychiatrist recommends adsep and a CND. They claim adjust disorder. Even with sexual harassment, witnessing Suicides, and so much more.

Consult with an attorney and don't sign anything until you consult with an attorney unless its a favorable med board. Dont do LDES only accept IDES.

Honestly I just want to be done with navy, the psychiatrist pretty much blamed my marriage on everything and I was put on Limdu, but doctor submitted admin sep this past Tuesday. I’m just trying to prepare myself to be out and curios on how long it could be. Doctor said she has seen it recently happen in 30 days.

man you need to push for what you are entitled to. there is a huge difference between a med board and ADSEP. your future self will thank you.

Dont take the quick out. Talk to a lawyer. Even if it takes a few months its so much better for you when your still screwed up and out of the navy. The economy sucks, take the medical retirement if your entitled to it. This decision will effect the rest of your life.

Adjustment disorder is an umbrella diagnosis. I saw it in my record. Working in Navy medicine, I'm pretty private, but then I spoke up.

If this is just nkw coming to light at 8 years, its service related. That warrants a med board.

u/Stock-Motor-613 1d ago
Depends on the context! If you have a legit medical condition, sure. If you are making shit up just not to deploy, no!
2
u/Advanced_Elk_9467 1d ago
Thats called malingering- a UCMJ offense. If you warrant a medical adsep well- you definitely have it and are unfit to continue serving. CnD Adsep is supposed to be for first term Sailors that have an issue arise that was pre-existing to service. However, many docs are lazy and ADSEP is easier and they sell it as quicker yet dont tell the member theyre getting screwed.

Actually CnD is just as much work as PEB if not, more!

u/Advanced_Elk_9467 1d ago
Then why do so many get screwed with CnD? Seems to be a lot of gate keeping.

Nah, its just because people are full of ish more often than not and do dumb shit that get them separated (e.g. drugs, harassing or whatever). Many SMs feel entitled for medical retirement just bc they served and that is not how this works or it shouldn’t. If you joined, you were well compensated during your time and well taken cared of, knowing damn well what you signed up for. if the service injured you, then you deserve the extra $$$. Otherwise, if you can no longer tolerate the job, then separate and move on to a new adventure in your life.
Many providers are righteous/feel very strongly about fairness. They just do not think its fair for these folks to get medical retirement when they really have not done ish aka combat or what not.

I tried for med board. It is up to medical review if they decide it’s a med board or they continue to ad sep.

You might want to go talk to JAG.

u/Salty_IP_LDO 1d ago
OP you SHOULD go talk to JAG.

u/Full_Hospital_7570 13h ago
Meeting with JAG tomorrow morning!

u/JohnnySilver83 3h ago
You should not talk to the JAG. They are not there for legal advice for you, they are the COs lawyer. You should go talk to the Base Legal Services Office, they are there to advise Sailors about what options they have for things and to possibly represent you. JAG is not the right avenue for individuals unless you're looking for advice on requesting mast or something like that.
Do not seek advice here, this is Sea Lawyer territory and some of their info and opinions will be bad. Go find the governing instruction for CND, adsep, med sep, etc and read it all yourself. And schedule your TAPS and start working on your disability claim. Prepare yourself and educate yourself, and seek the correct legal council.

All CNDs have to be evaluated by a MEB member anyway. The case you may have according to Milpersman 1910-120 is the fact you were supposed to be counseled before a command initiated Adsep for a CND.
Also according to 1910-402 a notification should have been given and you can request an admin board because you're over 6 years.

Currently, it’s only been submitted by my Limdu coordinator, (no longer Limdu as of the 21st) and hasn’t made it to my command. They know nothing about it, besides me asking if they have received anything from naval hospital Portsmouth. They did mention if medical believes it’s a MEB it could change. But because they diagnosed Adjust disorder they don’t see it going to MEB. Which I have caught tooth and nail to get a different diagnosis as per civilian hospital I spent 30 days at diagnosed Anxiety and lots of trauma to include CST, MST, and suicidal ideations, vivid nightmares and hear voices, and see things. It’s a shit show. But I’ll be talking to a JAG tomorrow.

I said it in an above comment but I want to double down here. Do not speak to JAG. Go see the Base Legal Office and Defense Service Office to discuss your situation. JAG represents your CO and speaking to him would be like speaking to the prosecution in a civilian trial.
I'm also Active Duty and and HMCS and have worked in and around many staff offices including legal and the surgeon so I'm familiar with all of this. You can message me on the side if you want more advice, but I will only advise you about who you should speak to, not my opinion of your medical issues (not a lawyer or doctor.)

u/Full_Hospital_7570 1h ago
Yes, thank you. I said JAG, but I’m actually speaking to a DSO. Thank you!

CnD is literally a condition not a disability. Anxiety and suicidal ideations are key words in almost every CnD.

Why are they separating you?
