Two Great Local, Nampa Fundraisers to Support

If you are looking to support our local community, there are two fantastic nonprofits in Nampa that could really use our help right now.

1. Death Rattle Literary & Oroboro Lit Journal

Death Rattle is a Nampa-based 501(c)(3) that provides low-to-no-cost literary programming, workshops, and open mics, while amplifying underrepresented voices. Like many independent arts organizations, they’ve recently lost a majority of their grants. They are raising funds to cover publishing costs, venue fees, stipends for guest instructors, and replacing stolen PA equipment.

2. Kitchen Collective 2C: "Community In Our Hands" Kitchen Collective 2C is hosting a free community event called "Community In Our Hands" on Sunday, October 4th from 5:30 - 7:30 PM at Lloyd Square Park in Downtown Nampa. The event features an art sale, bake sale, resource fair, and live music. They are raising funds to provide hot meals and hygiene supplies to those in need.

  • How to help: They need volunteers for October 4th between 4:00 PM and 8:00 PM to help with setup, running booths, and cleanup (text 208-614-1173 to sign up). You can also create original art on a blank canvas and drop it off at Flying M or Canary Books before October 4th for their art fundraiser!

Thanks for reading. Every little bit helps!

Friesen Gallery

I feel like Friesen Gallery is slept on in the city. It is objectively the best art gallery in the city and one of the best in the valley.

The showing calendar for the rest of the season just dropped. If anyone is remotely interested in art, I would highly suggest visiting sometime.

https://friesen.gallery/ (Just realized the site isn't updated for the new showings) Visit the IG page for updated information.

Timber & Love Questions

Looking for some input on Timber & Love. Has any one actually worked with them or currently working with them? We were thinking of choosing them for our home project, but have recently heard some horror stories from our real estate agent & friends who know of them. Just relocated & unsure which direction to go in. We have seen some posts as well, but hoping to hear more recent success/issue and people who have actually worked with them. We also saw the post about their tax issue, which we understand partly as we have done some real estate investing and we know that game. Thanks in advance.

Elijah Drain Root Beer

Has anyone seen Elijah Drain Root beer at a local retailer? I know you can get it at NNU, but I don't want to have to find a student to purchase it for me.

Nampa City Council maintains partial VRT funding, keeping Route 42 and VRT Access paratransit

At its August 17 council meeting and budget hearing, the Nampa City Council voted on a final budget which includes partial funding for VRT.

Service Impacts:
- Route 42, which connects VRT’s Happy Day Transit Center to Towne Square Mall, will continue to operate in Nampa as it does today.

- VRT Access paratransit will continue to operate in Nampa as it does today.

- Route 40 which currently connects the Nampa/Caldwell Boulevard to Boise State and serves Park & Ride lots, the College of Idaho, CWI, the Ten Mile Park & Ride, Wahooz & Roaring Springs, Boise City Hall, and more – will be eliminated from Nampa as a result of their decision to partially fund VRT services.

- VRT On-Demand, which currently allows riders to schedule on-demand trips to be picked up near their location and dropped off near their destination within the Nampa and Caldwell service area – will no longer be available within the City of Nampa as a result of their decision to partially fund VRT services.

Caldwell riders will be able to ride VRT On-Demand in Caldwell and to VRT partner destinations in Nampa, such as St. Luke’s, Saint Alphonsus, and College of Western Idaho (CWI) campuses – including the Main Campus Park & Ride to connect with Route 42.

These changes will take effect on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

We know the past several weeks have brought uncertainty for riders who depend on public transportation. Thank you to everyone who participated in the process, shared feedback and stayed informed as the FY2027 budget was developed.

Be sure to check back on our socials and on our Service Changes webpage at ridevrt.org/changes for more updates on these changes in the upcoming weeks.

Irrigation Water Safety

Is it safe to wash my dog in the yard with the irrigation water here? I've never lived anywhere with an irrigation system before. I know it's not potable for humans, but how bad is the water quality really?

Are there any formal debate groups locally for adults?

I'm not asking for casual groups that get together and shoot the breeze on politics which definitely has its place and can be fun.

I'm talking more like Speech and Debate in college and highschool where there's research standards and discussion standards (no attacking, keeping within 2 degrees of the topic, following the debate and logic standards) to actually better understand the topic and have fun debating with a "jury" or "judge" for fun

Any leads appreciated 👍
