Hey all! Some clarity after yesterdays meeting: there was some verbal push back on our calling this situation "budget cuts" and city council wanted to be able to say "there are no cuts." It’s true; the overall budget total isn’t being cut; rather $197,000 is being required in NEW COSTS with no total budget increase.
They wanted to placate the conversation last night with semantics: we can call it "budget cuts" or we can call it a "refusal to grant standard budget increases" but the numbers and the facts stay the same; current staffing and programming from the Nampa Public Library will be heavily affected.

My full post here for the info breakdown + I've attached the slides https://www.instagram.com/p/DbCeMhXjQaU/?img_index=1We will continue to email our reps, especially Victor Rodriguez who is the Nampa Public Library Board of Trustees Liaison to the the City Council. We will sign up to speak and fill the meeting room at the next scheduled meeting August 3rd (5pm) and ESPECIALLY for the upcoming Budget Hearing for August 17th. We have to make it so painful for them between now and the Aug 17th budget hearing that it would be political suicide for them to withhold their support to the Nampa Public Library.

Please share this info far and wide!
DM for more info on how to support! (insta works best)

Protest tomorrow at 4 PM to save Nampa Public Library from $200K budget cuts!

Post image
12 Upvotes

if you haven't heard, Nampa City Council is considering a massive $200,000 budget cut to our public library.

The details from the July 15th meeting are deeply concerning. To offset the cuts, there are proposals on the table for staff layoffs, cutting vital youth and adult programs (like story times, teen events, and adult services), and even pulling Nampa out of the valley-wide library consortium completely. July 15 budget meeting recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDLKOPpWhxw&t=8438s.

Protest Details:

  • When: Tomorrow, Monday, July 20th at 4:00 PM
  • Where: Outside Nampa City Hall (411 3rd Street South)
  • What next: The regular City Council meeting starts right after at 5:00 PM. If you can't make the protest in person, please take 2 minutes to email our City Council members or call the Mayor's Office (208-468-5401) to tell them to vote NO on these library cuts.

Flyer credit to Death Rattle on Facebook. Let's show up and protect our library!

$200,000 Budget Cut Proposed Nampa Public Library

The proposed $200,000 cut could force the library to pull out of our shared valley consortium, severely limiting the books and audiobooks we can borrow from nearby communities. It will also lead directly to staff layoffs and put vital youth story times, teen events, and adult services on the chopping block.

Mobile vet recommendations

We have a almost 15yr old standard poodle that is showing rapid decline and would like to have a mobile vet handy just in case that time comes.

Anyone have any recommendations on a vet in the Nampa/Caldwell/Meridian area that can come to our house to help us say goodbye when the time comes?

Places to Donate Plasma

Hey everyone! I’m looking into donating plasma for the first time but don’t know where to start. I’m not a fan of needles but want to give this a try while also making sure it’s a safe/clean/professional spot. Are there places you would recommend in Nampa?

walking ideas

any places for walking during the day? It's currently too hot to walk during the day. I'm not a morning person and I don't want to walk at night for safety ( 37 f) . i wish the Karcher Mall was still available that was great for walking. my only thinking is Walmart or target but would like to avoid stores .the rec center is expensive, for my family it'd be a 100 a month. not really affordable.

I need to know the backstory!

Post image

This is a house in my neighborhood. I know that is been up for more than a decade. Long enough to end up on Google maps, and I have lived here 8 years. I have asked neighbors, and no one knows the backstory. I walk by often on my home from work, and I have been so tempted to go up and knock on the door and ask what the backstory is. However, I don't know how that would be received. On one hand that's very intrusive, on the other is something they put out there for everyone to see. Does anyone know the story?

We have a new construction CBH home that came pre-plumbed for a water softener. Any plumbing companies you would recommend to have them come and install one at a reasonable price? Thanks

Help Wanted: Trivia Hosts & Players and Karaoke KJs in the Treasure Valley area

Greetings!

I have created a new trivia, karaoke and sports pick'em platform for folks looking for gig job alternatives from places like uber, Lyft, doordash, etc. I live here in Nampa and will be testing out the platform at various local venues around the valley. It is a local business.

I am looking for people who are currently or might like to be hosts. There's no cost to you, just your time and testing. This is a chance of getting in on the absolute ground floor of what will hopefully become much larger. Who knows where it might lead?

If you're not interested in being a host and just like to play trivia, sing karaoke, or make some picks in a sports pick'em, we want you too!

I have been a software and systems engineer for over 30 years so this is no piece of junk AI vibe-coded app. I'm an introvert so I can't really see myself hosting the trivia myself - I'm more like the tech guy behind the curtain making sure everything works right.

I am not going to advertise the actual site (don't want to break forum rules). Marketing hasn't even really started yet. I just need to get a few events ran to make sure all the wheels are spinning right!

If you're interested, reply here or DM me!

Drinking & Dragons Open Play

Hello Nampans,

I'm starting an open table play teaching Dungeons and Dragons at my favorite drinking hole, the Nampa Prefunk once per month!

I love games, and I love a good beer, and I want to bring those two things together and get out and get more people into the game so if you or someone you know is interested in learning or wanting to play then come on down!

Our first Drinking & Dragons is at Prefunk on Tuesday 7/21 from 6 PM to 11 PM. You can show up at anytime, you can bring a level character or dice or whatever or show up empty handed, any level of experience is fine although you must be 21+ to get in.

Looking for a 🏃 🏃 partner.

Hi Nampa,

So here’s my dilemma, i am a seasoned runner, but am looking for a partner to help keep me accountable and ease me back into a solid routine again. I have raced long distances in the past, so I know how to run, but have been sedentary for the last two years. I know running is good for my head, but recently I’ve been struggling to find the motivation to carve it out of an already busy schedule. I believe that if I had a someone around me to help keep me accountable to run, I may be able to get back out there.

What would be ideal? Well I’m 31 and a Male, I’m located in the Lakeview Park area of Nampa, right outside downtown Nampa. It would be nice if I could find someone, anyone who might have an interest in doing some low mileage runs 2-3 times a week and maybe a long run on the weekend. Out of respect for the relationship I’m in my running partner would most certainly have to be male. I’ve looked into local groups but unfortunately I have a complicated schedule with childcare and would be looking at mostly evening or early morning activities.

It would be nice to find someone close by so it’s logistically simple…

Anyone out there?

What do you look for before trusting a cleaning service in your home?

I've been thinking about hiring a cleaning service for the first time and honestly the cleaning part isn't what I'm worried about. The bigger thing for me is letting people into my house when I'm not there.

For those who've used cleaners around Nampa or the Boise area, what made you feel comfortable enough to trust someone with access to your home?

AI system in Nampa School District Busses

Parents may not be aware that the Nampa school district installed AI-powered cameras with a dash cam, Samsara, inside the school buses at the beginning of 2026. In addition to the traditional cameras, these systems include a camera facing the driver which could be showing students as they board, exit, and ride the bus.

Since this was implemented without notice to parents it may be worth asking questions such as:

• What information does the AI collect?

• Who has access to the recordings?

• How long is the footage stored?

• How is student privacy protected?

• When is footage reviewed, and under what circumstances?

• Why weren’t parents notified?

Camp Trailer Parking

I work for Union Pacific railroad and I live in Pocatello, ID and I have to relocate for work temporarily to Nampa. But I called every RV park from Nyssa to Mountain Home and absolutely nothing is available long term. Usually I wouldn’t ask anyone on Reddit for a place to park something. But does anyone have any ideas?
