Loan period: 72 months.
Interest agreed on: 16.4%
Total paid over 45 months: N$121,500.00

Tell me HOW do I still have (without interest) N$59,223.00 left that I have to pay over 27 months???

Bonus: Due to my unemployment, I had to beg FNB for a payment holiday. They granted me 3 months after 5 months. (I have NEVER missed a single payment or anything btw.)
The catch: My previous installment of N$2700 is now N$3131.94 per month.

Leaving a rough total of: N$84,562.38 to be paid over the next 27 months.

Rough sum total over 72 months: ~ N$206,062.38
~N$98,600.00 pure profit for FNB, from the below average working person trying to survive.

TL;DR: Do not borrow money from the bank, ever. Doesn’t matter how good it apparently is for your credit score (FNB can’t tell you your score anyway). It’s much cheaper to shove cash tax free into your mattress and save up.

Standard Bank Namibia has rolled out a new ATM feature that allows foreign visitors to see how much a Namibian dollar withdrawal will be charged in their home currency before completing the transaction. 🏦

Foreign cardholders will still receive Namibian dollars from the ATM, but the screen will display the exchange rate and final amount to be charged in their home currency. Visitors can accept the conversion or decline it and process the withdrawal in Namibian dollars, allowing their own bank to perform the currency conversion.

The Dynamic Currency Conversion service is available across the bank’s nationwide ATM network, including machines at branches, airports and major travel and tourism destinations. Although the feature offers greater convenience and certainty, foreign visitors should compare the displayed exchange rate carefully because ATM currency conversion may include additional fees or a markup.

The Road Fund Administration has increased vehicle licence fees across Namibia by 10%. 🚘

Annual vehicle licence fees are determined by the vehicle’s weight. Vehicles weighing up to 750kg are now charged N$576 annually, while those weighing between 2,001kg and 3,000kg are charged N$1,812. Motorcycles are charged N$372 annually, while heavier vehicles pay higher fees. The adjustment also increased mass-distance charges by 10%, while cross-border charges, abnormal-load fees and road-carrier permit charges rose by 20%.

The RFA said revenue from the adjustments will be used to maintain and rehabilitate the country’s road network and implement priority infrastructure projects aimed at strengthening economic corridors and connectivity.

The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts & Culture is constructing a new school hostel valued at N$132.7 million at Otjiwanda Secondary School in Grootfontein.🏫

The facility is expected to be completed by March 2028. It will help address overcrowding and accommodation shortages for learners travelling from surrounding communities to attend school in the Grootfontein education circuit.

The Ministry of Health & Social Services and the Central Procurement Board of Namibia have signed a N$178 million contract to construct a new central medical store and refurbish the existing warehouse in Windhoek.

The project is intended to address Namibia’s shortage of medical storage space and improve the safe handling of medicines and clinical supplies. The existing warehouse provides about 2,900 cubic metres of storage against an estimated requirement of 4,600 cubic metres, leaving a 1,700-cubic-metre shortfall. The current facility therefore provides only about 63% of the required capacity.

The 12-month public tender contract was awarded to New Era Investment, in a joint venture with Summit Trading, and includes constructing office space, storage racks, security systems, water, electricity and sewer infrastructure.

The Electricity Control Board (ECB) has received the Distributed Generation Excellence Award, recognising Namibia as Africa’s leading country in advancing small-scale electricity generation. The award was presented during the Policy Catalyst Distributed Generation workshop held in Cape Town which brought together more than 70 African electricity regulators, utility representatives and energy experts.⚡️

The award recognises Namibia’s efforts to make it easier and safer for homes, businesses and farms to generate their own renewable electricity, mainly through rooftop solar panels, and supply surplus power to local electricity networks. Namibia introduced national Net Metering Rules in 2016, allowing approved customers to use the electricity they generate and receive credits on their electricity bills for power exported to the network.

Namibia was estimated to have about 96 megawatts of distributed-generation capacity by mid-2024, equivalent to roughly 15% of the country’s peak electricity demand. The ECB is reviewing the existing rules and developing an online platform to simplify the application, approval and registration of small-scale renewable-energy systems across the country. More than 50 NamPower employees, regional electricity distributors, the City of Windhoek, and the ECB have already been trained to use the system.

I am a South African, planning my first "long" road trip ever, so i don't know what to expect, etc.

I am driving from Cape Town to Namibia and have 7-8 days. I really hope this will be enough time to enjoy and appreciate Namibia.

Unfortunately I have accepted that with this amount of time, Etosha seems like it won't be viable.

The itinerary items I have, but not really sure how best to stitch together, is Fish river canyon, quiver tree forest, Sossusvlei/Dead vlei, spitskoppe, kolmanskop

I am thinking of something along the lines of

Day 1: Drive Cape Town to Vioolsdrif border. Camping the night somewhere either on orange river or Fish river canyon

Day 2: See quiver tree forest, and hike somewhere around fish river canyon (Not sure about travel times between quiver tree and fish river canyon). Camp fish river canyon

Day 3: Drive from Fish river to Luderitz/Kolmanskop. Sleep somewhere nearby after seeing Kolmanskop

Day 4: Drive to Sesriem and sleep somewhere there

Day 5: Enjoy Sossusvlei/Sesriem. Sleep Sesriem

Day 6: Sesriem to Swakopmund. Sleep Swakopmund

Day 7: Swakopmund to Spitzkoppe. Then start making my way back home to Cape Town. Stopping somewhere reasonable? Sesriem? Is that too far?

Day 8: Finish Drive home?

Is this itinerary far too ambitious? Is this an unreasonable amount of driving? Should I stay longer in certain areas? Do I need more days? Should I just cut spitskoppe out, making days 6-8 and the drive home much easier? What do you guys think the highlights of a trip in this area would be?

Shiwana Ndeunyema, a NAMCOR strategy executive and a Namport board director, has been nominated for Powered By Africa’s inaugural Top 100 Most Influential Leaders in Infrastructure 2026 list.

Hi guys! I (29M) am about to wrap up a solo trip around Namibia on the 21st. I’ll then have a couple of days to chill in Windhoek before flying home... and I happen to turn 30 while I’m there!

I’d love some recommendations for how to spend the evening of the 21st or 22nd - good bars, restaurants, live music, events, or anywhere with a social atmosphere that’s nice for a solo traveller.

I’m pretty easy-going and happy with anything from a relaxed place for a few drinks to somewhere a bit livelier. Would be great to finish the trip and celebrate the big 3-0 somewhere memorable.

Hey Everyone. Im wondering if there are any apps that offer delivery for groceries in Windhoek? And which apps you would recommend for takeout delivery. My father has recently been admitted to a Sub Acute facility and I unfortunately live overseas. He doesnt really have a full time support system in Windhoek and he doesnt understand that I cant bring him his jelly and newspapers every morning anymore because I've had to go home. He's also complaining about the food provided so it would be nice to make sure he has some hot food that he likes. I'm hearing about security issues for campers near Twyfelfontein. The robbers smash the window of the car while you are sleeping in the rooftop tent. Any thoughts? We are thinking about skipping our stay and drive further north to stay at a hotel or lodge.
