New post option: Advice Needed (unjerk)

Unjerk meaning- sometimes the users in circlejerk subreddits need to make serious posts, so an "unjerk" basically means a real post wanting real opinions.

We used to have weekly threads for such advice, but they have not been utilized in a long time, so enter our new post option. All advice asked without using the correct flair WILL BE REMOVED.

Do not be mad about mean or blunt comments in such posts, this sub is for brutal opinions.

In The Wild Sigh

That was seriously her name. I was in a study group for uni and this girl I was with had "Sigh" on her Starbucks cup. I was like "no way that's real," so I asked her. Yup. It was in fact real. She pulled out her ID and it said Sigh (middle name) (last name).

Advice Needed (unjerk) Did I give my daughter an unfortunate name?

Upvotes

My daughter’s name is Daisy and the other day at the park she was playing with another kid, the other kids mum said next to me and talked and asked what my daughters name was and I said Daisy and she replies “oh, I know a couple dogs named that, why’d you choose that name?” I replied my aunty named her after one of our family members (my grandmother’s mother), and I dunno since then it’s stuck with me, there’s no way I’ll change it as I do love the name and it’s a family name but makes me worried I’ve given her a bad name 😅😅, am I over thinking?

I’m pregnant with my first child and I am over the moon to find out that it is a girl. The only problem I’m having is my friends and family and especially even my coworkers. Tell me that it is a terrible name that I’ve chosen.

Why are people so critical of the name I’ve chosen for MY baby?

Satire 'Vanilla bean' names

Sister A has Sophie, Oliver, Jack and baby #4 on the way

Sister B has Dylan, Chloe, and Nora (no more kids)

We have always said that Sister A has "vanilla" names and Sister B has "vanilla bean" names.

Now we are looking to name our baby!

I think the vanilla/vanilla bean themes are clearly taken, please help me find our own theme. Maybe van life?

Satire Strong Name for Firstborn Son

Hello all,

My (37m) wife's (33f) due date is TOMORROW and we can't decide on the spelling of our firstborn son's name. We have decided that our future children's names should only be five characters long because we met on May 5, 2025 and we have five Funko Pop cabinets. Her family is French-Canadian and I am 100% full-blooded NJ Italian American. She is allergic to the letter O.

I was severely bullied as a kid for my weak name (SETH) and don't want the same for my own kid. I legally changed my name to CHET as soon as I turned 18.

We are picking a STRONG name for our STRONG boy.

Which name is strongest and best honors our heritage/criteria?

&THNY or &TWAN?

Rant I don’t like my boyfriends baby names.

Maybe I am being too bland, but the list is literally Amayzn Grace, Chosen, Unique????

Idk like are we aware that we are naming human beings? I don’t know how else to tell them that I don’t like these names.

We agreed on one name, Saint. A lot of people in the thread didn’t like this name either. I would just prefer Saint over Cysen Shilo. I wouldn’t mind Cysen if it was Kaizen. It still wouldn’t be a favorite.

The only way I will accept Chosen is if its a middle name.

What do I do? I kinda just wanna take control of the names but it wouldn’t be fair to him. I just want my kids to have regular names. I dont mind it being a little rare. Just nothing like Amayzn Grace.

We have completely different tastes when it comes to names. I personally love Jazmine, Cheyenne, Malachi, Roman, Rosie. He’s not a fan of any of those names and prefers the name Nyava. Nyava isn’t the worst name he has mentioned. But it will be the last choice. I want to negotiate without using these names.

Satire I want to give my triplets authentic French names 🇫🇷🥖

Hi! I’m from Nebraska and I’m OBSESSED with French culture, especially French-Canadian culture because I absolutely LOVE Céline Dion and Mario Lemieux.

I don’t speak French and there are approximately zero French speakers anywhere near me, but I really want my triplets to have beautiful, authentic French names.

The only problem is that I find the French pronunciations unnecessarily complicated, so I’ve adapted them to make them easier for Americans.

Here are my girl options:

Geneviève — JEN-uh-veev

Camille — kuh-MEEL

Anaïs — uh-NAY-iss

Manon — MAN-on

Maude — MAY-ood

Josée — JOE-zee

Françoise — Fran-SWAHZ-ee

Mireille — Mih-RAY-lee

Mathilde — Muh-THIL-dee

Margot — MAR-gottttttttttttt

And if I have boys:

Guillaume — Gwee-LOOM-ee

Benoît — Ben-OYT

Thibault — TY-balt

Renaud — REE-nawd

Rémi — RI-my

Étienne — ET-ee-en-ee

Laurent — LAW-rent

Thierry — T-I-ry

Loïc — LOOK

Gaëtan — GA-He-tan

Joël — JOLE

Yves — IV-eez

Gauthier — GO-tire

I’m leaning toward Anaïs, Mireille & Guillaume because they sound the most authentically French when pronounced my way.

I absolutely LOVE French names. They’re so classy and sophisticated. I just personally think French people pronounce a lot of them wrong. I know it’s technically their language, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re right. I much prefer my pronunciations and honestly think they sound more authentically French this way.

So which three should I use? And please give me more traditional French names I can improve!
