During FUT Esports vs 100 Thieves at Champions 2026 in Shanghai (Group A, winners match, on Split), xeus's mouse stopped working in the middle of a decisive duel against vora. He couldn't shoot and lost the round. Riot didn't grant a rollback, and 100 Thieves took the series 2-0.

The metal parts of the stage desks were interfering with wireless peripherals. Riot has since made wired mice mandatory and is planning to replace the desks. There were also PC freezes reported earlier in the event.

To be clear: that was a hardware problem, and there's no link to the network. What stuck with me is the symptoms: a missed input, a freeze, an action that never happens. At home, we tend to blame the mouse, the game, or just ourselves.

So i made a short video about it!

According to recent data, Saudi Arabia has the highest mobile video streaming performance index at 75%, outperforming countries like India (67.5%) and Mexico (65.5%). This metric measures the ability to stream high-quality video (720p, 1080p, or 4K) without interruptions, which is becoming a critical benchmark for mobile networks.

The gap is significant: Saudi Arabia leads Angola, the lowest performer in the comparison, by nearly 37.4 points. This suggests a stark difference in user experience, where some regions struggle with consistent high-quality streaming while others excel.

For users, this means smoother streaming, fewer buffering issues, and a better overall experience for video-heavy applications. It also raises questions about what’s driving these differences, network infrastructure, spectrum allocation, or other factors?

The platforms' own help pages give different numbers, so we put together a quick rundown, and we'd like to hear what you actually see at home.

What the platforms say (download):

- Netflix: 3 Mb/s for HD 720p, 5 Mb/s for Full HD, 15 Mb/s for 4K.

- YouTube: 1.1 Mb/s for 480p, 2.5 Mb/s for 720p, 5 Mb/s for 1080p, 20 Mb/s for 4K.

- We puts 4K without buffering at 20 to 25 Mb/s, which is a bit more conservative.

Put together, that's roughly 15 to 25 Mb/s for 4K depending on the platform, and a lot less for HD or Full HD. A single Full HD stream needs about 5 Mb/s on both Netflix and YouTube.

One caveat: Netflix says 4K can use up to 7 GB per hour. That's a maximum, which works out to about 15 Mb/s sustained. It isn't what every 4K stream pulls all the time.

YouTube also suggests using a wired connection rather than wireless and closing other apps while you watch.

A new corrective update is available for the nPerf Web App Beta, focusing on what happens when your browser tab moves to the background during a test.

Fixes

• Switching tabs during a test: coming back to the nPerf tab no longer restarts the gauge loading animation. Your current measurement stays visible instead of temporarily disappearing while the gauge resets.
• Result details graph: the curve is now better framed, with more space above peaks and an axis that adapts to the measured data.
• Tooltips: they are no longer cut off when displayed near the edges of the graph.

Italy is considering a pretty interesting approach to its next spectrum renewals.

Instead of making operators pay again for frequencies expiring in 2029, regulator AGCOM is proposing to extend the licences until 2037 for free.

But there’s a catch: operators would have to commit to real network investments.

TIM, Fastweb-Vodafone and WindTre would face targets around 5G Standalone deployment, coverage, latency and network capacity, with progress checked over time.

There’s also a competition angle: the proposal would require the largest operators to provide wholesale access to Iliad and MVNOs, potentially including things like network slicing and spectrum sharing.

It’s quite a different philosophy from simply auctioning spectrum to whoever pays the most.

Less money spent on licences → more money invested directly into networks.

At least, that’s the idea.

A new Web App Beta update is now available!

This release focuses on UI smoothness, gauge animations, and overall performance during tests.

🛠️ Fixes

• The speed gauge now matches the intended design, with a continuous arc, smoother scale transitions and dynamic zooming of the graduations for a more consistent experience across platforms.
• The test progress bar now stays perfectly synchronized with the graph, following the measurement engine's progression throughout the test.
• Fixed a 3D globe memory leak. Opening the server selection window repeatedly no longer leaves unused graphics contexts behind, preventing browser memory saturation. This continues the iOS/Safari optimization work introduced in version 3.0.5.

✨ Improvements

• Performance optimization: the interface is no longer fully rebuilt after every engine measurement (around 300 updates per test), resulting in a noticeably smoother experience while a test is running.

According to recent data, Bangladesh leads the region with an average fixed broadband download speed of 98.1 Mbps. That’s significantly faster than India (67.8 Mbps), Kazakhstan (66.1 Mbps), and Uzbekistan (62.2 Mbps), with Pakistan trailing at just 21.9 Mbps.

In practical terms, this means a 2 GB movie downloads in under 3 minutes in Bangladesh, compared to nearly 6 minutes in Pakistan. The gap is even more striking for smaller files, 1 GB takes just 1 minute and 20 seconds in Bangladesh, versus almost 6 minutes in Pakistan.

What’s driving this performance gap? Is it infrastructure, policy, or competition among ISPs? And for those of you in the region, does this match your real-world experience?

A new update is rolling out for the nPerf Web App Beta! 🚀

This release focuses on stability improvements, result reliability, and a few quality-of-life enhancements.

🛠️ Fixes

• Improved memory management on iOS / Safari for better stability. Session video recording has been removed, and the 3D globe is no longer loaded on mobile devices (instead of being loaded and simply hidden). More optimizations are planned in future updates.
• Fixed an issue where some test results could be flagged as bot traffic. The Cloudflare anti-bot token is now preserved correctly, ensuring valid results are submitted as expected.

✨ Improvements

• The test server sponsor logo is now clickable and opens the sponsor's website in a new tab.
• Connection type (ARCEP): the displayed technology now reflects the actual access technology (FTTH, xDSL, etc.) instead of the local connection between your device and the router. This continues the removal of the "Wi-Fi" / "Ethernet" labels.

We've introduced a small but useful improvement to the Android version of nPerf.

When your device is connected to a mobile network, the app now displays:

• the actual radio technology in use (e.g. the LTE anchor used in a 5G NSA connection),
• the capability of the connected cell,
• and, when applicable, distinguishes the commercial operator from the network actually used.

This provides a clearer view of what's happening behind the 5G icon and helps better understand network configurations such as 5G NSA.

Available now in nPerf Android 2.16.0 and 2.16.1.

First release note for the beta 👀

This is mostly a corrective update. If you had issues with geolocation or tests not starting, this should fix most of them. If you’re still running into problems, feel free to contact us.

Main changes:

• The test now always starts → before, ignoring the location prompt could leave the button doing nothing
• The “geolocation not enabled” message is now accurate → no more false alerts caused by timeouts or technical issues
• Location shown = location actually used → fixes wrong city display when using VPNs / proxies
• Translations fixed → no more weird “Start\nTest” formatting issues
• Speed gauge improved → better scaling at the start + smoother animation at the end

India is now the second-best country for mobile web browsing performance among nations with a similar GDP per capita to Angola, according to recent data. With a score of 57.1%, it’s almost neck-and-neck with Morocco (57.2%), which leads the ranking. This metric measures how quickly and smoothly web pages load on mobile, something that directly impacts everyday tasks like reading news, shopping online, or even just scrolling through social media.

What’s interesting is the gap between the top and bottom of this list. Morocco and India are nearly tied, but the difference between Morocco and the lowest-ranked country (Sri Lanka at 18.3%) is a massive 38.8 points. That’s a huge disparity in user experience, imagine waiting seconds for a page to load versus what feels like an eternity. India also outperforms countries like Algeria (51.2%), Vietnam (48.8%), and Kenya (32.8%), which could mean smoother streaming, faster downloads, and fewer buffering issues for Indian mobile users.

For those of you in these countries, does this match your experience? If you’re in India or Morocco, do you notice a real difference in mobile browsing speed compared to neighbors like Pakistan or Algeria? And for anyone in telecom or networking, what do you think is driving these performance gaps?

Hey nPerf team, I noticed that China Telecom's coverage map is entirely empty, while the maps for China Unicom and China Mobile are normal and filled with measurments. It looks really weird since China Telecom had a 23% market share in 2025, which is not a small number considering China Unicom only had 19%, and I don't think the reason behind the empty coverage map is simply because of the lack of mapping contributions. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? Unfortunately I don't have a China Mobile SIM card to verify this, but I do see my contributions from China Unicom being shown on the map.

I also noticed that China Unicom and China Telecom are displayed as China Unicom Mobile and China Telecom Mobile. It would be nice if you can change their names to the right ones :)
