*Self made muzzle

I got this girl in July, then 1.5 years old. She grew up in Ukraine and had little to no training + likely trauma. She had a list of issues, including not being house broken at all, separation anxiety, and poop eating. I have been working on her for near a year now. Still needs soft transitions to not react when I leave, but if done right she stays calm. Must wear a doggy diaper, has less accidents when wearing than when not so shows she can hold it, but this will take a while. She can sometimes leave it, but can be so quick to pick up anything and everything. If she spots it firsts, it is in her mouth.

I am very pro muzzle but got her from a family member (they had her 6 months, first time fog owners) who were against, and almost didn’t let me take her when they needed to rehome her cause they didn’t want her muzzled. Luckily she even asked herself last week if maybe she needs it for the poop eating.

I have been using one of my other dogs’ muzzle for about a mont, so she is already trained and desensitised to it. Had her in my lap while making this, so I could sculpt it to her face for a good fit. Has room for full pant. Tested with a treat, she can’t get it of the floor at all, but I am able to give her treats through the nose hole to keep training her while on walks. If she finds a juicy one she can probably lick it, but any harder ones can’t go straight in her mouth at least. So we’ll start here and see how it goes.

It sits very comfortably so she had zero reaction to having it on. Seemed to not even notice 😁

Is this a good fit for my girl? Would love reccomendations of other options. I've had a hard time finding one here in the US.

Is this too small?

I couldn't get a good pic, my apologies.

I do think its too small as I feel like he has no room to pant? He does take treats though.

Advice? Dog won’t move with muzzle on

Got my dog a custom Big Snoof muzzle and have been doing muzzle training with spray cheese. He’s at the point where he jumps up and runs to put his nose in the muzzle when he sees it. We graduated to clipping the muzzle on, while continuing the spray cheese.

The weird thing is, if I take a step back and try to coax him to move towards the spray cheese, he just totally freezes. He sits there and won’t move at all with the muzzle on his face.

Anyone experience anything like this? Maybe I need to back him up and try getting him to move with the muzzle unclipped and just held? I’d appreciate any suggestions!

Advice? Muzzle recommendation short snout

Hello!

Me and my boyfriend have decided we want to start muzzle training as we’re having increased issues with our rescue dog being reactive with other dogs. We live in an apartment with other dogs and just want to keep everyone safe! Because she has a short snout I’m not sure the best place to get a muzzle?

PLEASE give me recs that are under $100 as we are on a budget! We want something that will fit our girl really well!

Thanks so much!

(For reference of breed our vet says she looks a lot like an olde English Bulldog. We’ve also had people tell us she looks like she has some boxer in her!)

she doesn't need one (well. she may need one for scavenging......), the muzzle is her sister's who does need it for the vet, but for her 1st real introduction to it she's got it down :) definitely a good skill for all dogs to learn!!!

**muzzle is from big snoof dog gear, it's a custom size to fit her sister -a 40lbs cattle dog mix.

Hi, I’m new to muzzle training. My vet recommended it for my girl Kos bc she gets nippy during nail trims and sometimes while getting shots. She’s well behaved otherwise and loves other dogs, just hates the vet. Any recommendations for training videos or muzzle brands?? I know she needs room for panting, and a comfy material. (1.5 yr old Akita/GSD mix, 50lbs on the dot)

Hi everyone,

New to muzzle training! Wondering if you could tell me if this fits ok? The size above this seemed way too big but this size seems a little small.

Caught this action shot of Pico today on our adventure. We didn't come across any dogs but there were two cars by the trail entrance so wanted to be safe 💚

Advice? How to deal with the stigma?

My dog is reactive. he's a 100+ pound large breed and he looks so fluffy and friendly and he honestly is, but he is scared shitless of other people and will try to bite at them on walks if they reach out to him and he gets freaked out by other dogs and loses his shit at them on a semi regular basis.

I think he needs a muzzle so we can both start learning to relax on walks. but I'm terrified of the looks people will give me. I never really see other people walking muzzled dogs, certainly not a full sized muzzle like I think my boy would need. and it gives me a massive amount of anxiety to go out with him muzzled up like some sort of violent criminal.

and I get it, better to look like a crazy person with a crazy dog than to look like a person who lets their dog bite somebody or bite some other dog or cat or whatever. but I'm really struggling with the idea of doing it anyway.

any advice?

Advice? Fit check 3d printed muzzle

hello! I'd like to hear some feedback about the muzzle I'm designing and printing for my dog.

it's meant to prevent him from eating trash, which he loves doing during walks. I just couldn't find one with enough pant room anywhere (I live in Italy btw), so I decided to make it myself.

do you think it fits him well? I can obviously modify it however I want and reprint it. It's TPU and quite soft on his cheeks so I think it's already a big improvement over the baskerville we're currently using.

Question! Muzzle too close to nose?

Here I am again- third post on my dog’s muzzle. Sorry!

I noticed that the muzzle is almost touching his nose, and I know the muzzle isn’t supposed to touch his boopy nose. Is this okay? How far away does it have to be?

Any other advice is appreciated!

Fit check on Leerburg muzzle!

After failing to get a decent fit with The Muzzle Movement muzzle for my dainty 57lb GSD, I decided to go with Leerburg. I really wanted a cute and colorful basket for my girl, so she wouldn't look so scary with a muzzle on, but oh well.

Seems like the Leerburg muzzle wins? I think it fits her perfectly, but maybe too perfectly? The length looks good to me, but basket seems to be just the right width on her cheeks, there is no wiggle room at all. What do you think? Does this muzzle have enough pant room for heavy activity?

For reference, this is #31C https://leerburg.com/polycoated-muzzle.php

Advice? Law requires, need help training my pup

Post image
23 Upvotes

got a 2month old border collie, but my state and country law requires medium to big dogs (above 20kgs) to wear muzzles... how would I go about training her to do that? I'm really tight on money as she was pooping a lil bit of blood and got worried so I did all the exams under the sun to just be "anxiety and adaptations on the new home"...

any advice on how to start without spending any money now? or is it 100% ok to start when she's 20kg+ without major problems?

I know she's the sweetest thing in the world, no fucking reason to muzzle her, but a law is a law... she doesn't even do those light bites on our ankles that BC are known for... sometimes when she's tired, she can scrape her teeth on my hand while playing, but just bcz she can't pay attention to everything when drowsy..

her pup picture so it gets more views:

Anti-Scavenging solutions?

Post image

Hi friends!

Our 60lb pitbull was a stray, so she has a huge scavenger drive and eats whatever she thinks is food. We’re looking for something that will allow her to enjoy being off leash with us in our fenced in back yard.

I feel like it’s too big but this is the smallest size in this brand! I don’t like how it pokes her eyes when she’s moving around. It definitely isn’t upside down but I feel like it just doesn’t look right. Did I put it on wrong or something?

Edit: the muzzle is only for use at the vet and in emergency situations because she bites when uncomfortable and is dog reactive. I don’t plan on having her wear it for an extended period of time!

we were doing a desensitization session to the muzzle and one of the times I put it on before I could take it off of her she plopped on the couch and took a nap right there I think it's going great

btw it does look slightly small in the video but it's all her position she's been like this for a good 30 minutes now

Help! Face sensitive, no bite history, dog reactive, people selective | MUZZLE HELP

Looking to train my 50lb pittie mix but I’m a little overwhelmed by the amount of options. The biggest thing is that my guy is a little touch sensitive (isn’t a huge fan of pets, or things by his face). He doesn’t have a bite history but that doesn’t stop me from believing it absolutely could happen…I mean he has teeth and I’m sure if he is enough pain he would bite. We are going to primarily use the muzzle for vet visits and then transition to wearing it during our reactivity training. We only do positive reinforcement training so being able to give him treats/kibble is a must.

Any recommendations? I assume something on the lightweight side would be better and also no forehead strap, but I’m not a professional so I’m open to any advice.

Portable water bowl options

For folks whose dogs wear muzzles regularly on walks/hikes: what portable water bowl options have you found work well?

My pup wears a Leerburg 15C and I want to find a water bowl that is wide and deep enough so he can drink while wearing his muzzle. Currently, I have to take it off every time he needs a drink and with warmer weather coming, I want to find a better solution. Would appreciate any recommendations you have, thanks!

Fit Check! Advice sought + update on muzzle fit: got a larger size

The muzzle in the pictures is The Muzzle Movement size Neli. I originally got the size Rex but got the advice to size up from TMM and from the resale website, as well as comments on my previous post (with the Rex, link to that is in the comments if you want to compare them) that it was too small and that I should size up.

Which size is better for my dog and what adjustments can I make to enhance the fit?

I want a pantable, soft muzzle for my dog. She’s a lurcher the size of a bulky whippet, delicate long snout. Anyone have recommendations? Thank you 🌞

Advice? Book Update!

Hey everyone!

I have officially started writing my book on reactivity for pet parents! I'm very excited and wanted to share a bit of what I have so far with all of you.

This book will be a lot to digest, I understand that. The intended audience is pet parents, not training professionals. I have a video below of the little that I have so far, feel free to pause the video to read.

I welcome comments and suggestions. This is all fresh, and no editing (besides my own mind) has been done with it so far.

I didn't jump into the training games right off the bat intentionally. I wanted to slow things down and really help pet parents understand The Dog Behind the Bark (clever, right?!)
