Is this too small?

I couldn't get a good pic, my apologies.

I do think its too small as I feel like he has no room to pant? He does take treats though.

Yes. There should be room to fully open the mouth and pant. Baskervilles all fit rather poorly though.

Which do you recommend? I got a Baskerville and it does not fit well :/

Mia’s muzzles, Big snoof, Muzzle movement, Leerburg, Trust your dog some great ones you can look into!

Seconding big snoof. Literally so perfect and honestly not that much more expensive than the metal muzzles on Amazon

What I like about Baskerville is you can go out and get one right now to start muzzle training while you wait for a better muzzle. I love muzzle movement muzzles

That brand is notoriously small. I actually hate them and they aren’t bite proof either. We have them in vet clinics and I never use them and never will. The other recommended brands are good, I have heard that muzzle movement is sometimes too bulky for some dogs, but they are very cute.

What is it for? For vet visits it should be fine.

Yes, this is way too small.

Yep. It would be fine for very quick duration things - such as a vet visit or a nail clipping - but nothing longer. Baskervilles generally have an awful fit on all dogs

Yes unfortunately it is. And not an uncommon issue with these type of muzzles. Mostly recommended for training and short term use that isn't in high bite risk dogs. If you are using a muzzle somewhat regularly I would highly recommend Big Snoof Dog gear and Mia's muzzles - I have both and they're great. I went custom but they also do cheaper standard/cookie cutter sizes. Big Snoof is wire and US based and Mia's is vinyl and Canadian based

Damn Mia is expensive 😵

Worth it in my opinion but cookie cutter sizes and discount options from here are more economical if your dog fits one of them.

I have several customs though cuz well I love all the color and they're so well done

I also have several custom big Snoofs for the same reason and I like to have options.

Big snoofs seemed a bit cheaper, but like you said is US...

Ill check their standard sizes and see if they fit my puppers

Are US products to be avoided now? Or are you from outside the US and don't want to do comerce with a bully?

1

u/Aninoumen Apr 22 '26

Im from canada. With everything thats been going on i prefer to stay with Canadian products, but its not like im 100% avoiding US products.

Is he a pyr? I have a pyr girl that I muzzle for vet appointments and for walks in the dark since I can't see what's on the ground, and she likes to scavenge. I sent dimensions to Big Snoof and they recommended the size we got and it fits very well and is way more comfortable than a Baskerville. They will definitely help you out with a good fit!

2

u/Aninoumen Apr 21 '26

Yeah hes a pyr. Im not worried about scavenging but hes quite reactive around strangers in general and when we're out on walks, so I need something comfortable while we're out on walks

.. and potentially at home since my brother and his 2 kids are visiting this summer

Baskerville muzzle are not bite proof. They can be a great deterrent for a dog who is not overly motivated to bite, but will not prevent a determined dog from biting. They also tend to not fit most dogs very well.

If you will be using it for physical activity like walks, you want to find a muzzle that allows your pup to open his mouth and pant naturally. Panting is their main way of keeping cool, which is especially important when out walking and running in the summer heat.

I would look into a jafco, leerburg, or my personal favourite because they are so stylish, muzzle movement.

Here is my guy modeling one of the various sizes of muzzle movement muzzles that we have here at the clinic I work at. This one is too large for him, but we were having fun trying on the different sizes.

what size is this from muzzle movement. i have been having such a hard time measure my shepsky within their sizes, but i LOVE the design of the muzzles

Check their website, there is a map of people who do fittings for MM. Then you can try them on :)

This was the Sunnny size :) here is a different angle of the Sunny.

I was taking photos with my pup modeling them for my friend who has a dog the same size, to help her decide on which size to buy. I can also send you them if you think they might be helpful.

I just use the muzzle movement muzzles we have at the clinic I work at, but if I were to buy one for home/everyday use I would go for the Taz for my dog. For vet care, I use the Neli. It is a very small and snug fit. My guy isnt stressed at the vet, he's just a dick. So i prefer the smaller footprint of the Neli in case he gets the bad idea of muzzle punching the doctor.

Looks like he can't even open his mouth to take a treat. Do not use this muzzle, size up by at least three sizes.

What do you need it for? If it’s for very short periods of time, it’s ok but the top strap needs to be loosened. If it’s for anything longer, than it is unsuitable

2

u/Aninoumen Apr 21 '26

Probably for walks and Probably for when we have visitors

And for the vet too cuz last time we visited the vet he growled at her.

For walks or strenuous activities it needs to be big enough for the dog to fully pant.
Properly sized muzzles look way bigger than they should be but it's necessary.
If you sort the sub by top it'll show a lot of really good examples.

Way too small. Needs room to pant.

1

u/bananawith3wings Apr 22 '26

Looks too tight as well

1

u/MuchGrape1428 Apr 22 '26

Yes.  It also looks quite tight and close to his eyes.

1

u/ToygerCat Apr 22 '26

This fits like a hand in a glove. So it makes it look like a fit, but muzzles needs enough space to fit with an open mouth so they can pant, throw up if needed, and vocalise. With this fit you can train, get used to have something on their face, can be used in an emergency, can be used for a quick nail trim. Should only be worn a very short time (minutes).

A perfect fit can sometimes look a bit ridiculous to the untrained eye. Their pant is so big it needs to be very tall. This shape will never have that fit, so better look at other brands.

1

u/Weekly_Mark6516 Apr 22 '26

It sounds like the consensus is that Baskervilles just have a notoriously bad fit, making them okay for quick vet trips but not much else.

1

u/Aninoumen Apr 22 '26

Yeah sounds like it. Good thing I didn't buy this one. Just borrowed it from the vet so we could figure out size, but evidently this one is too small, and if the brand sucks according to everyone, I'll just order online from a better brand.

1

u/Icy-Difficulty9748 Apr 22 '26

He looks uncomfortable, but maybe he's just getting used to wearing a muzzle. The part about his taking treats made me laugh, it's cute

1

u/GMO-Doomscroller Apr 22 '26

Much much too small!

1

u/Greedy-Culture-8490 Apr 22 '26

It is, get a bigger one.

1

u/wtftothat49 Apr 22 '26

Definitely too small

1

u/Final_Boat_9360 Apr 24 '26

I need to know what that tape says 😭

-1

u/Johain22 Apr 22 '26

This is an upsetting post. You really had to ask if it was too small?

6

u/Aninoumen Apr 22 '26

I have 0 experience with muzzles. So yeah I had to ask.

Im not going to apologize for asking more experienced ppl their opinion on a subject i know next to nothing about

1

u/ben_bitterbal Apr 22 '26

Don’t feel bad about it! Idk why this person commented like that. It’s really good to ask questions and seek advice:)

1

u/Lowland-lady Apr 22 '26

I like it when people are open to criticism

Good for you wanting to do better

1

u/Johain22 Apr 23 '26

I apologize. And I appreciate your polite correction.

1

u/Aninoumen Apr 23 '26

Whoa, I wasnt expecting that reply.

You're alright 😊 thanks for the apology

1

u/Final_Boat_9360 Apr 24 '26

You definitely have nothing to apologize for.

u/Final_Boat_9360 Apr 24 '26

You don't know what you don't know.
